10 Min Pep Talk - Don’t trade minutes for calories

10 Min Pep Talk - Don’t trade minutes for calories

In this month's 10 minute pep talk, Charlie expands on an email he sent out earlier this week where he discussed the common misconception that if you workout, you can automatically eat more. Yes if you workout you likely are able to eat more freely. But, that creates a very unhealthy thought pattern in your brain. Exercise should be something you do. It is making your body healthy, stronger and it will perform better for you long term. It also just happens to burn calories but that is not WHY we do it.

Sara Spivey - Balancing healthy living and a social life

Sara Spivey - Balancing healthy living and a social life

Today on the #BuildingBetterPeople podcast, we hear from Sara Spivey, who is 22 and from Athens, Tx. She just finished up her bachelors degree in Animal Science last year, and is now working as a paralegal as she prepares to go to law school.
Sara started playing basketball at the age of 3! Growing up, she played sports all year round. In high school, one of her coaches introduced her to Crossfit workouts, which she loved, especially compared to the general conditioning and running she had been doing during her off-season.
However, when she moved to College Station to start school, exercise was the last thing on her mind. It wasn’t until she went home for the summer in between her junior and senior year and joined a local Crossfit gym that she found her love for working out again.
Sara talks about how difficult it can be to find the balance between wanting to eat healthy and having a social life. She shares her tips on how she has overcome this struggle and how she can eat healthy AND enjoy time with friends and family. Enjoy!

Jake Fenoglio - Getting back into the swing of things

Meet Jake. Jake is 34 and recently re-joined College Station Crossfit after taking a bit of a break during the COVID pandemic.
Jake went to high school in Chicago and played just about every sport out there. He came to College Station hoping to play baseball at TAMU, but soon realized that wasn’t going to happen with a shoulder injury he sustained in high school.
Facing this realization, Jake spiraled into depression and a drug addiction until he found Jesus and a home church at Brazos Fellowship.
Jake discusses his fitness journey, the ups and the downs. Ultimately, he feels better when he is working out, which is why he decided that coming back to Crossfit was the best decision for him since he not only missed the working out, but also the community.
Give this one a listen—its one you do NOT want to miss!

Farah Javid-Majd - Fitness for life

Farah Javid-Majd - Fitness for life

Meet Farah. She is now 60 years old, but emigrated here back in 1985 after getting married. She has known Charlie for a LONG time—she met him back when he worked out at the Aggieland Fitness Dome!
Farah has two adult sons. She is a bio-chemist, researcher, and a pharmacist, which is her favorite because she is able to really help people. In this episode, Farah covers dealing with depression during graduate school, some of it due to the cultural differences between the US and her home country, and how she really had to dig deep and find the root cause of it in order to get better.
One thing she found that helped her was exercise, and this has stuck with her—and now she does Crossfit! Through all the different programs she has tried, she loves Crossfit the most, mostly due to its unique culture. We can’t argue with her on that one! Give this one a listen to be inspired on SO many levels. We are so proud of Farah!

Great New Podcast!

I spend a fair amount of time in my truck and have been shuffling through various podcasts throughout the past year. I've come across some really good ones.

I have been following Charlie Lima, who owns College Station Crossfit, on social media over the past couple years since I started my own health transformation. Though I'm 50 miles away in Montgomery, I attended a nutrition seminar Charlie hosted at CSCF a year ago and have consistently been impressed with Charlie's ambition to "Build Better People." I saw earlier this week that he started a podcast this year, and just finished listening to the first two episodes. They're great! Whether you're in the beginning of your health journey like Beth from episode 1, or you're a fine-tuned machine with your sights set on the CrossFit games like Chris from episode 2, there is so much great information that can be taken away from this new podcast. If you've got some time, check them out. I know you'll be glad you did. I'm looking forward to the next one!
