BusinessWeek - Climbing the Ladder
This free podcast should be manditory listening for all. In a few short minutes, it maps out concrete steps we should all take towards not only having successful careers, but also successful lives. I wish I had heard it 30 years ago. I'm greatful for having heard it three years before I plan to retire. Hands off to John Byrne and Business Week for offering this wonderful gift to us who are lucky enough to stumble onto it.
Content needs depth and Host needs voice training
I've found that the content offers a wide range of topics related to self-improvement in the corporate world, but lacks depth which I think it's due to its short length. The host undoubtably has good rapport with the interviewees, and knows how to ask good questions. However, his voice carries neither enthusiasm nor energy, and sometimes sounds even whiney, which forms sharp contrast with its upbeat guests and the whole "climbing the ladder" spirit. Maybe it's better to read the interview script in print than listening to it on your iPod.
Great Resource
Nearly all of these give advice that will most probably prove useful to just about anyone, whether they are actively attempting to climb the ladder or not. The same is given by some other business podcasts (e.g. Stanford Entrepeneurial Thought Leaders, Welcome to Beehive). I hope to hear new Climbing the Laddercasts in the future. As for the hosts voice, its steady, amiable, and easy to understand. If those credentials aren't enough to earn it positive regard for you, then you must have an irritating time listening to most people.
