A Light Against The Deep Dark

This is the fifth podcast novel by Nathan Lowell. It comes out at a perfect time, as the weather turns it makes for a very warm and comfortable listen. Perfect for a rainy day escape. Listen to all of his novels quartershare, half share, full and double share: you will enjoy the ride.

Nathan Lowell Continues to Captivate Listeners

Having listened to the entire Solar Clipper series several times I was anxiously awaiting this next installment. So far, this book is everything I had been hoping for. Nathan's writing is so immersive that you can just close your eye's and disappear into the story as if you were there with Ishmael Wang. His previous book "Double Share" was a Parsec award finalist but in my view it should have easily won. Before reading this book I would recommend that you listen the the entire series up to this point, starting with Quarter Share. Although this book really seems to stand quite well on its own, listening to the earlier books in the series really adds to the experience. Thank you for another great story Nathan!

I really wanted to like this

Full disclosure: I didn't finish it. I liked the writer's style. I liked the characters in the beginning. I stopped about half-way in because nothing ever happened. It was like listening to someone almost tell a great story. Every time I thought it was going to get going, it would veer into another excrutiatingly detailed tale of cooking breakfast or inventorying the walk-in freezer. This was like fiction for accountants: long lists that add up to nothing. And the more time the the protagonist spent whipping his crew into shape the less I was rooting for him because all he did was talk and talk and talk...and then go buy groceries or cook breakfast or eat breakfast. I think the writer is obsessed with breakfast.
