Tiesto Is God! A Tribute | The sixth in my series of tribute "God" mixes. It was inevitable that Tiesto made God status. Wasn't he always? Tiesto first found #1 DJ status in the world of trance. He has since moved on to electro and other forms, to the detest of trance purists, but I'm still with him. He's now filling stadiums on tour and seems to have a household name akin to Madonna and others. Much respect. I usually can't stand an over the top, wailing at the top of her lungs for no reason, female diva vocal. If you're a fan of my sets then you already know. No dis of the women songstresses, hell, I'm a *huge* Madonna fan. But I want strong vocal melodies with those vocals as one part of the musical tapestry. My fave track on this set. 3. Son Of A Gun (Yuksek Remix) - Oh Land: "But I am burned out on this rush... I want to change my orbit...This time I won’t save you...You son of a gun." Yuksek ruled the vocodor on this mix to great effect. 4. Raining (Extended Mix) - Kaskade & Adam K feat. SunSun: "I'm in the car speeding from the past but it's raining on my windshield tonight. Praying it won't last... tonight." Two of my faves, Kaskade & Adam K, in one fantastic emotional tune. 5. Indestructible (R2C2 Sydney Mix) - Robyn: My Madonna in the past year. "And I never was smart with love, I let the bad ones in and the good ones go, But I'm gonna love you like I've never been hurt before, I'm gonna love you like I'm indestructible." Saul Ruiz and Corey Craig, from NYC (holla!), teamed up a year or so ago and formed R2C2. Thank Saul for providing the remix. I appreciate that they kept the orchestration in their remix. Nadia Ali & Mikael Johnston: We are now at the trough just after the initial drop on our rollercoaster. Once again, two faves, Myon & Shane 54 and Nadia Ali, in once fantastic emotional tune. "We tried so hard, on that day, you left me standing there...I watched you walk away." 7. Always (Sacha M Remix) - Manendra And Eva Kade: "Beautiful dream the eyes, and their drowning me this night, I have always learned their in my heart be sure...worry, don't worry, You are my only love." French producer Sacha M brings a soaring trance take to the equally wonderful original. 8. I've Had Friends (Jean Elan Extended Remix) - Morgan Page feat. Jan Burton: I'm pretty sure you know by now that Morgan Page is God. "You were sensible to the very bitter end, my friend. Don't depend on those friends who pretend and lie." Whew those are some lyrics and Jean Elan mixed a fantastic hard beat to match. We're on our way up that crest on our rollercoaster. 9. A fave of 2010. 8. Ring The Alarm (Freemasons Club Mix) - Beyonce: I rarely put a well known over the top vocal "diva" on my DJ mixes. Here is one of those rare remixes that excels beyond the persona of the artist. Classic. 9. Disco Lies (Freemasons Club Mix) - Moby: Almost nothing like the original. Electronic Heart | Inspiring Your *Electronic* Music Scene! Not all electronic music is cold, unfeeling, and heartless. Sometimes it can fill your being and your heart with substantial light that rejuvenates your soul. You may find yourself intenerated with an overflow of warm flowing energy. This is Electronic Heart. If you enjoyed my "Electronic Love" DJ mix last year then this new mix is the companion. In many cases it borrows heavily from the nu wave disco genre made popular by producers such as Lifelike a few years back. Additionally, you will notice that male vocals dominate. Digital Dog is God | he second in what is to be a tribute series of "God" mixes. "Morgan Page is God" turned out to be a critical success and a fan favorite! Each "God" tribute mix will be dedicated to one of my fave DJ/producers featuring tracks they have remixed or produced. Digital Dog produces an electro house sound that easily layers into some great vocal pop melodies. Till Tonight | This set may put you in a trance. Full of enormous vocal house and trance tracks that deserve much attention. "Counting down the minutes 'til tonight." Enjoy! Track List (57:39): 1. Till Tonight (Original Mix) - Laidback Luke feat. Jonathan Mendelsohn: Former graffiti artist turned DJ, Laidback Luke, from the Netherlands, turns in a massive tune with the vocal power of Jonathan Mendelelsohn. Jonathan had one of my fave tunes, with Wamdue Project, last year with Forgiveness. Check out my previous mix of the same title, Forgiveness. 2. Come Back (Original Club Mix) - Chicane: The new single to launch the new Chicane album titled 'Giants'. This is essentially a rework of the Paul Young 80's song 'Come Back and Stay'. I'm a big Chicane fan and have already featured two other recent singles on past sets, Hiding All The Stars and Poppiholla, that I hope are also on the new album. My fave tune on this set! 3. Major Tom (Adam K & Soha Club Mix) - Shiny Toy Guns: Peter Schilling recorded it originally but it is the David Bowie character that made it famous. Shiny Toy Guns has a knack for recording exciting cover songs and is perhaps also best known for the songs in the Lincoln car commercials. 4. U R Everything (Main Mix) - Chuck Love feat. Colette: The Minneapolis based DJ turns out a smooth house track with a vocal by Colette that seems to work perfectly. "You you you you are are are everything..." I dare you to try and get that simple lyric out of your head! 5. Anthonio (Fred Falke Remix) - Annie: Norwegian singer Annie says this tune is about a holiday affair between her and the title character. As always, Fred Falke doesn't disappoint. "Oh Anthonio it's been nearly one year since our Rio... Was I ever more than just a face in the crowd? Did you even know my name? Did you ever really care?" 6. I Remember - Deadmau5 ft. Kaskade: Progressive house at it's best with two of my faves. Note, Deadmau5 sounds like "dead mouse". "Hold to the love that you know You don't have to give up to let go. Remember how you pulled me through. I remember." 7. At The Edge Of This Mountain (Club Mix) - Mango and Aqua Diva: "I heard you cry for a distant love that will never come back." A simple song that copies that progressive sound that seems to be flourishing. But I still love it. 8. Stars Collide (Timothy Allan Remix) - Damien S. feat. Femke: Easily one of my fave tunes on this set. Find the equally great Loverush UK mix on my previous set Hiding All The Stars. 9. Choice (Dennis Sheperd Remix)- Michael Angelo Feat. Marcie: "Sometimes we hold on too long. Sometimes we cling to things that really are hurtful. Sometimes we don’t see what’s obvious. Sometimes we don’t know we have a choice." Feels Like Velvet | It's been a while since I shared my thoughts on the tunes along with the track list. Enjoy! Track List (57:36): 1. Black Velvet - Ferry Corsten: I remember thinking back in 2008 that I thought this tune should be the future sound of vocal trance. It didn't happen. :( Instead we have had the more mellow stuff which is good but I also wanted something a bit tougher. Also reminds me of Madonna's song "Skin" from her 1998 Ray of Light release. Ferry? How 'bout some more. "Black velvet feels warm on my skin. Touch me slowly, I want to savor my freedom." 2. Bittersweet (Freemasons Extended Mix) - Sophie Ellis-Bextor: Waiting for the new Freemason's album that should be out this year. They never seem to disappoint. Thanks Sophie for instigating a little Freemason's sound out in the mean time. 3. Good Times - Seamus Haji vs Mark Knight & Funkagenda: The #1 1979 hit by Chic is reborn. This tune has been sampled so much in Hip Hop and Rap songs. Did it ever really disappear? 4. Halfway Gone (Morgan Page Main Mix) - Lifehouse: If you are a fan of my mixes then you have to be a fan of Morgan Page. The man is putting out great remixes and original material. Stoned In Love (Vertigo Vocal Remix) - Chicane feat. Tom Jones: I'm also looking forward to Chicane's new album out in April. Loving the new tune Come Back & Stay. Look for it on an upcoming mix. This is a fave from 2006 and my Raleigh/Durham, NC days. "Stoned in love but not with you." 6. Feels Like Fire (Club Mix) - Players Please: I don't know who Players Please is but I do know that this tune has elements lifted from Power of Love by Frankie Goes To Hollywood. My favorite tune of this set! "I'll keep the vampires at bay. Feels like fire. I'm so in love with you. Purge the soul. Make love your goal." 7. Rocket (Richard X One Zero Remix) - Goldfrapp: The last mix Rocket Love Songs had the outstanding Tiesto remix but I had to include the Richard X mix in this one. Always download a new Richard X remix even if you haven't listened to it. Much like The Freemason's, he never disappoints. This remix is free in the U.S. Amazon store (click here). 8. Heartbreak on Vinyl (Chew Fu Extended Fix) - Blake Lewis: I loathe American Idol and just about anything associated with it minus my friends that obsess over it. However, the Chew Fu electro sound is well worth this exception. 9. S'express 2.1 (Mario Lopez Vs C-Base Remix) - Mr. Malo: In 1988 the original was #1 in the clubs in the U.S. I was employed at a Wendy's restaurant at the age of 17 and my very out gay manager LOVED this tune and played it way too much. I guess I did too 'cause I still own it on 12" single. Probably how he figured me out. LOL! 10. Can't Stop (Original Club Mix) - Noel G. Feat Adam Joseph: Adam is perhaps better known for his work with Bob Sinclair. An uplifting house track to close us out. A shame that I'll probably never hear this on U.S. radio. The original was a top ten hit in Italy, Germany, the Netherlands, Austria and Switzerland. 3. Bodies (Cahill Refix) - Robbie Williams: The fun continues with always reliable Cahill with Robbie's #2 UK hit. "All we’ve ever wanted, Is to look good naked, Hope that someone can take it, God save me rejection, From my reflection, I want perfection" 4. Counting Down The Days (Original Extended Vocal) - Sunfreakz feat. Andrea Britton: One of my fave tunes from 2007 that just needed to be brushed off. "Been around, now I found, I was walking on the wrong track yeah, Took my time, I was fine, I was looking for you, Lost my way, for the day, got my ticket, now I'm right back, Here to stay, it's okay, now I'm walking with you" 5. Knock You Out (Original Mix) - Tiesto feat. Emily Haines: Emily is the lead vocalist from the indie rock band Metric. Check out the fab 3M remix of Metric's Gimme Sympathy on my previous podcast Happiness Happening. Knock You Out is from Tiesto's new album Kaleidoscope. "Somebody to rough you up, Somebody to make it tough, Somebody to bait you, Somebody to love, But wait…" 6. Home (Paul Van Dyk Club Mix) - Paul Van Dyk Feat. Johnny Mcdaid: Johnny is the former singer of the British cult band VEGA4. Home seems to meld the lyrical rock with the electronic. Good stuff. Paul Van Dyk remarked at an August Central Park performance that the song was about New York City. Hmmm. "They fashion streets out of the rock, Struck up statues to their gods, amen" 7. Just Say Yes (Thin White Duke Mix) - Snow Patrol: Rock band Snow Patrol on my podcast? Stuart Price aka the Thin White Duke (Madonna/Confessions) takes the band onto the dance floor. Just say yes! 8. Papillon (Tiesto Remix) - Editors: Wow! This song grows on you. It may become one of my faves of the year. Tiesto turned it out and reaffirmed why I loved him years ago. "Darling, just don't put down your guns yet. if there really was a God here, He'd have raised a hand by now. It kicks like a sleep twitch!" 9. Give Me Love (Original Mix) - Coburn: My classic tune of this episode. This song never seems to get old. Lyrically it always reminds me of an old Georgio Moroder song. 10. Bad Romance (Grum Mix) (Kerry John Poynter's Extended Revenge Edit) - Lady GaGa: Hot off the success of Paparazzi, Lady "sounds like baby food" Gaga kicks out a batch of new tunes. This is not quite the trance sound that they are known for but the electro groove is fun. Fountains of Youth (Timothy Allen Remix) - Loverush UK feat. Molly Bancroft: I found myself enjoying a number of recent Loverush UK remixes. This is the first of three on this set. Originally a big club hit in the U.K., it is now being marketed in the States. Deserves more attention! 3. Hang On (Digital Dog Remix) - Plumb: Oh how I have loved some Plumb tunes in the past such as Cut, Damaged, and In My Arms. Did you know she's a Christian artist? She has a greatest hits CD of sorts out now. Digital Dog, as always, puts out a magnificent remix. 4. It's Alright (Loverush UK Remix) - Aviv Geffen: The second Loverush tune makeing an okay Aviv Geffen tune into something great. Aviv is an Israeli artist and this tune is from his first English language album currently being marketed in Europe. 5. Alright (Domain Pettigrew Remix) - Red Carpet: The original of this tune ruled my original my (gasp) cd walkman back in 2001. I thought it was time to dust off this 2007 mix because of the uplifting good feeling it always seems to give me. Lyrics: "The sun is gonna keep on shining, Bright days on a new horizon, My love for you will keep on risin', Everything is gonna be alright" 6. Here Comes The Rain Again (Freemason's 2009 Remix) - Eurythmics: One of my top ten favorite songs of all time. How perfect that my favorite DJ/producers put in an awesome production. Welcome back Annie! 7. Make This Your Day (Gareth Emory Remix) - Fabio XB feat. Micky Vi: If your a Club Kerry NYC fan then you know I'm a Gareth Emory fan and a lover of good vocal trance with an uplifting lyric. Perfect! Lyrics: "Make your cut above the rest, Don’t waste time and don’t look back, ...Set the fire in your soul, Push the button now, Make this your day" 8. Here on Earth - Tiesto feat. Cary Brothers: Tiesto turns out a nice vocal trance tune from his new album. Almost pop Tiesto! Lyrics: "And you take your time, because we've got all night Saturday or nothing, we can do what we want, I'm a sucker for your game, it's the way you tease, And it's so unreal, when we touch the ceiling" 9. Boys & Girls (Original Extended Version) - Martin Solveig feat. Dragonette: Somehow I found myself listening to two new tunes featuring Dragonette. French DJ/producer Martin Soveig gives us Dragonette frontwoman Martina, all overseen by fashion guru Jean Paul Gaultier. Don’t miss the fun music video featuring all three of them. Electronic pop the way it should be! 4. It’s So Cool (iTunes Bonus Track) – Madonna: This is her Madgesty’s third new track from the greatest hits album Celebration. It’s originally a tune from the American Life (2003) recording sessions but remade with an Oakenfold production. “Prophets are telling us, we’re near the end, but I am telling you that it’s all pretend.” 5. Broken Tonight (Original Mix) - Armin Van Buuren feat. Van Velzen: Male vocals should not be shunned in the club community. Time to grow out of your female vocals only or no vocals at all prejudice. C’mon, this is awesome! Good vocal, great beats, strong lyrics. “You don’t have to broken…” 6. Sleeping Satellite (Club Mix) – Jan Johnston: There is always a classic or a remake on my sets. This one is just from a few years back but with a slew of new mixes for today with the same amazing Jan Johnston vocal. 7. New In Town (Fred Falke Remix) – Little Boots: Yeah, I’ve become a Little Boots fan of sorts. However, I’ve become a bigger fan of Frede Falke and his outstanding mixes of late. Go check him out! 8. Watch The Sun Come Up (Moam Mix) – Example: A rather mediocre tune is turned into trance greatness with this Moam remix. 9. I Love The Sunshine (Beltek Vocal Radio Mix) - Alan Connor vs. Mike Melange: Now for the schmaltzy moment of the set with an infectious chorus. 10. Fugitive (Richard X Extended Mix) – Pet Shop Boys: The Dragonette remix by Richard X reminded me of his outstanding mix of this outtake by PSB. It’s one of the few bright spots by PSB in recent years. Yeah, I didn’t much like their past two albums. So shoot me. Or rather tell PSB to get a bit more original with their sound. But to PSB’s credit, this tune had good source material for Richard to work with. “ 11. Bulletproof (Tiborg Club Remix) – La Roux: I loved the Fred Falke remix of Bulletproof as well but Tiborg won me over. 12. I Don't Know (Jerome Isma-ae Remix) – Moony: Moony’s voice is killer. Monica Bragato (Moony) first became popular with the tune Point of View by DB Boulevard and her own song Dove (I’ll Be Loving You). We Are The People (The Shapeshifters Vocal Remix) - Empire Of The Sun: The Shapeshifters breathe new life into one of my fave tunes from earlier this year. It Only Hurts (Club Mix) - Julie Thompson: Julie has been the voice of so many club songs over the years. She finally has her own full length album coming out that is produced by Andy Duguid. This is the first release. “It’s not the first time. It won’t be the last time. I’ll find you.” 6. Frozen 09’ – Madonna & Juicybar: I have a certain prejudice toward underground Madonna remixes. They always sound awful due to the low quality. However, Juicybar, (dj/producer Wiretap & musician/producer Bluejacker) have really done an outstanding job here. Love Comes (Riff & Rays Club Mix) – Bananarama: Another 80’s connection. Riff & Rays creates a piano house stomper while Bananarama tries to relive it’s former glory. They may not succeed but this remix is fun. 6. Confusion Girl (Riff & Rays Club Mix) – Frankmusic: Brit producer/vocalist Vincent Frank has a new album. Riff & Rays once again turn up the beat to fun. “Confusion girl never gives or takes, Tries to cover up all of her mistakes, Wanting to be someone else, Anything but herself, …It’s such a shame.” 7. Gone (Extended Mix) – Lasgo: Gone are the days of the great Lasgo tunes. But ‘Gone’ may herald a return as this electro house beat portends. “Oops, you're gone. This excellent track is from ze’s debut album A Raver’s Diary. 4. Always The Sun (Extended Mix) - Richard Durand: The emotional trance continues with a beautiful tune from tech trance dj/producer Richard Durand. “Always the sun, like a wailing wall, give me hope, show some meaning.” 5. Deep Breath Contact (Myon & Shane 54 Collision) - Motorcycle vs. Glenn Morrison: Fave trance producers Myon & Shane 54 mash up the vocals from the Motorcycle tune Deep Breath Love with Glenn Morrison’s tune Contact. The result is magic. 6. For How Long (Wippenberg Remix) – Riva: Riva is back after a five year hiatus with a stomper of a mix by Wippenburg. 7. No Way Home (Extended Mix) - Richard Durand: So Richard appears twice on this mix. I couldn’t help it. “I hear your call. My lips won’t move.” Like these beats? You will be hooked from the onset at the piano intro cause "I wouldn't stop it if I could" (track #1, Love Takes Over by David Guetta featuring Kelly Rowland), my favorite track (#3) at the moment in Falling Anthem (Bad Boy Bill Extended Mix) featuring Alyssa Palmer, the best Pussycat Dolls i've heard in quite some time with I Hate This Part (Dave Aude Club Mix, track #6), a soring trance in Undo the Silence (David Forbes Remix) by Pulser (track #7) and the uplifting second fave tune in Forgiveness by Wamdue Project featuring Jonathan (track #10) (see lyrics below). I guess I like a good remake yet again (see NYC is Burning! and Sunrise After Dark), and Teardrops by Diamond Cut (track #4) fill that need. Not to mention something old can be something new in a new mix of the September tunen Can't Get Over by Figoboy (track #2). Also don't miss Not Alone (Deadmau5 Remix) by Gianluca Motta Feat. Molly. Deadmau5 is among my fave dj/producers and is often imitated. This particular track may be about a year old but I'm happy to finally find a place for it in one of my sets. Enjoy! But I couldn't hold onto this new set for much longer. Your shoes will be tapping or rather dancing to the sound of this set (Shoes by Tiga, track #2). And just who is that uncredited female voice talking on this track? Hmmm. Nobody seems to know for sure. This track is about '4 minutes' long, just plain fun and 'hard candy' to your ears. More like this please, Madge and Tiga. The Hard(ly) Candy phase is over! The Freemasons (See previous set This Disco Doesn't Lie) return with Sophie Ellis-Bexter on my fave tune of this moment with a leaked edit of Heartbreak Make Me A Dancer (track #4). I understand it sees a proper release very soon. A summer anthem I predict. I look forward to the remixes. In the mean time, enjoy my little extended version. Digital Dog shows up yet again on my playlist (see Cascada on previous set NYC is Burning!). Brits Steve Cornish and Nick Mace make up Digital Dog and are one of those rare DJ/producers that can take an okay song and turn it into greatness. Another case in point: Chemistry by Velvet (track #5). A great song does not always have to have vocals. Miami to Altanta by Pryda (Track #8) is a bit more progressive than what is on most of my sets but is so good. Give it a chance. I decided to keep the progressive sounds coming for the next few minutes with lots of energy until the all too fun neo-disco closer The Bitch is Back by Warren Clarke (Track #12). You may find yourself wanting more so just press repeat. Enjoy! Join the effort! http://clubkerry.podbean.com New York City is burning with the sound of these beats. Or at least it should be! Spring is finally here and this is your soundtrack. Ladyhawke starts us out with a fab new mix of Paris is Burning by Simmons & Christopher while Sainte Etienne return on track #2 with my favorite tune of the moment in Method of Modern Love. These two tunes were just meant to be together. You will be repeating these two I guarantee it. I certainly have. Revenge of the 80's! I find myself enjoying some remakes again (see Sunrise After Dark) and have included three of them. Send Me an Angel was a huge 80's hit for me originally by Real Life and this version by Lovematic (D & F Mix) does not have a male vocal like the original but is still quite good (track #4). Blue Monday by Kurd Maverick (track #8) is another timeless 80's classic originally by New Order. Any 80's music fan has to have these two tunes. The third remake, This is Your Life, is from 90's band Banderas but remade by 80's group 7th Heaven! (track #11). Good stuff. I consider the song Back in Your Head (Tiesto Remix) by Tegan & Sara to now be a classic (track #7). Tiesto did a great job with this. If you have never heard this tune then you should. If you remember the huge hit song Rapture by iiO from back in 2001 then you know the voice of Nadia Ali. Her vocals meld wonderfully in Love Story with the energy mix by Andy Moors on track #9. Lyrics or not. Unlike the last few sets (see Anthemic & This Disco Doesn't Lie) this one is bit emotionally dark at times but the beats are just as good. Just wait for those few tunes to lift your spirits. Thus a sunrise after dark (from track 4 Sunday Morning by Miqro & Maiqel). Otherwise, keep your ears tuned for two classics exquisitely remade for 2009 (Teardrop by Elize - Originally by Massive Attack, and Ain't Nobody by Kay & Stoxx featuring Mary Geras - Originally by Chaka Khan). Webster's dictionary say's songs with "a serious tone and" are "strong tune(s)" thus possess "the qualities of an anthem." Well put. This set is like riding a wave of musical energy from the crest down through the trough back to the final crescendoing crest. It is no mistake that similar to the last set (see This Disco Doesn't Lie) this one is book ended by one artist. In this case, DJ duo Filo & Peri. Anthem was numero uno in my opinion circa late 2007 and they return with quite a shine in 2009 on track 10. "All this world will shine on!" Hopefully you will too when listening. Enjoy! Perfect blend of future and retro dance
As dance music evolves and commercial hip-hop fades into history along with the rest of the Bush Era, Club Kerry helps blaze the trail of what the future of dance should be. Infectious grooves and familiar melodies are interweaved with the newest sounds and modern beats; the result is sure to find a place on your iPod that you'll return to again and again - whether you are getting into the mood for the dance club, working out at the health club or just sitting around the kitchen table making a club sandwich. The fact that this is free is amazing.

The soundtrack of my commute
I look forward to every new episode of the Club Kerry NYC podcast! The mixes are consistently interesting, and I have discovered quite a few new songs by listening. They provide a great soundtrack for my Metro commute and those times at work when when I just want to drown out the office noise. Definitely check this out!
