Close - But No TWiT
Overall, the show's a less comprehensive and informative version of Leo Laporte's THIS WEEK IN TECH - though, as you'd expect from a show starring John C. Dvorak, it's always grumpily amusing. Problem is, while Dvorak's a great guest, as a host he has a tendency to cut off discussions that don't interest him, talk over or shout down co-panelists, and take over discussions. Dvorak's nowhere near as good a moderator as Leo is - which fits his immoderate personna to a T(!), but can be frustrating to listeners like me. More even than on TWiT, how good CG is depends on its guest list - both Molly Wood and Jim Louderbach (those times he's shown up) have been really good. Regular guest Sebastian Rupley doesn't make much of an impression one way or the other - Show #20 which he hosted solo is, IMO, the weakest episode so far. This show needs Dvorak in Rupley's spot as "Regular Crank" - and a moderator who can moderate rather than dominate.

A 30 min podcast with four comercial breaks. This doesn't leave time for four co-hosts to get into a topic with any depth. There are plenty of other podcasts (some of which have several of the same hosts) that have more substance with fewer interuptions.
one of my favorite tech podcasts
There are three tech podcasts that i will stop whatever i am doing to listen to (have a shuffle so i had to abandon the video version) and this is one of them. The others are cnet's buzz outloud, and slashdot review, and Cranky Geeks is sort of between those two: not as dry as slashdot review, not as glib as buzz outloud, but funny, interesting, and informative, and Dvorak challenges things that sometimes need to be challenged.
