wish Jeff Goldsmith would shut up

This is definitely a worthwhile Podcast. If you're an aspiring screenwriter, it's a no brainer. But Jeff Goldsmith is one of the worst interviewers in the universe. Lame jokes, interrupting the guest, prefacing questions with minutes of mundane insight... Jeff is a master of all of these interview skills. Listening to the Tamara Jenkins interview, at one point he asks a question to which Tamara responds "that's interesting... that's a question only men seem ask." Very provocative statement. But instead of letting her finish, Jeff gets defensive and keeps interrupting her to sort of absolve himself. I really wanted to hear what she meant by that. Sadly, I probably never will. Thanks, Jeff. So yeah, good podcast, but it would be even better if they didn't have such a dim-witted narcassist hosting. Jeff is that dude from your class or at the Q&A, the one who raises his hands and within a few words you realize isn't really concerned with asking a question and learning, it's all about showing the audience how brilliant he is. And we all know how smart and original those people tend to be. Ugh. I wish Terry Gross hosted this podcast.

Why is Dane Cook the host?

This could be the number 1 podcast on iTunes if the interviewer would just CHILL OUT. It's like Dane Cook is the emcee and trying desperately to sound smart and cutting off these amazing guests. Despite all that, I'll still give it 4 stars just because I love this magazine.

read on (especially) if you are a screenwriter...

i'm a screenwriter and this has been a godsend for me. this podcast is my shot in the arm. i have learnt a great deal about the evolution of projects and careers. the enthusiasm of the presenter is infectious. i look forward to each new installment and i take heart from the like minded number of mad people out there. it takes a phenomenal amount of effort to get anything off the ground and this cast shows how it has happened for others. i have no problem with the discipline required to bring a project to completion but having the faith to write what's inside, to go for the gold is something that i have not mastered. this cast helps me remember that writing is a process, that patience is a virtue and that instinct is my most important asset. i can't recommend it highly enough for any writer or individual interested in learning more about writing and the film industry.
