One of the Best...
I discovered this as a result of a podcast called Morning Stories from WGBH. I started listening when they dropped back to 1 day a week and, though disappointed, continued listening. Then when there were no shows for about a month, I thought I was going to die from withdrawal. I'm extremely happy to see them back, to say the least. I'm sure people on the DC Metro think I'm nuts sitting there smiling and laughing to myself. That's just fine with me, given the amount of pleasure I get listening to the Croncast.
Milk-out-the-nose funny
This podcast is freakin' hilarious! The tales of the trials and travails of Betsy and Kris are laugh-out-loud funny. Literally. I have several times had old ladies look at me funny in the grocery store when I started chortling for no visible reason. And I am not -- NOT -- the kind of person who laughs to myself in public without great provocation. Why, oh why, did I only discover the Croncast recently? I could have been getting a regular dose of sarcastic Midwestern hilarity since I first got my iPod, rather than for just the past month. With only about 25 episodes available on iTunes at a time, I've missed out on the first few hundred, and I have yet to figure out how get the earlier episodes (downloadable from the Croncast website) into my podcast directory. That's my problem, not Kris & Betsy's -- but it's one I'm delighted to be avoiding with their new show, "Resale Queen," by subscribing from the start. And I guess the silver lining is that, even after the Croncast ends its long and prolific run, I'll still have a huge stash of older podcast episodes to keep me entertained while commuting, folding laundry, and garage saling for many months to come. This is one of the few podcasts I can recommend wholeheartedly, with no reservations (well, except for an "occasional non-kid-safe language" note) to all my friends. Thanks, Betsy and Kris, for pouring such a huge amount of time and effort (and scarce cash) into the entertainment of random folks like me!
The Best Things in Life are Free
I've *paid* for podcasts that aren't half as good as this. This is a high-class production, thanks to the technical brilliance of Kris Smith. As far as hilarity and interesting social commentary, it gets no better. Have you ever bought a comedy cd or podcast and laughed maybe, uh, half the time? With Kris and Betsy Smith, you will laugh throughout *every* podcast. Kris's humor is deadpan, and he makes a great straight man to his wife, Betsy. Betsy, on the other hand, is truly a rare and great comedic talent. Corporate America does not own all the best talent out there; some of it is hiding in a basement somewhere near Chicago. Give this a listen before the Smiths are "discovered" and you have to buy their CD's. Note: A good starting point with this podcast is the "vacation" podcasts, found on croncast.com (use the search function).
