DIDN'T THEY BLOW OUR MINDS? with WILBERT HART - Jan 16,2012 | The Delfonics were one of the first groups to sing in the sleek, soulful style that became popularized (thanks to producer Thom Bell) as the "Philadelphia sound." A vocal trio made up of brothers William and Wilbert Hart and high school friend Randy Cain, the Delfonics roots go back to doo wop singing at school dances in the early 60s. Right from the start this was a perfect match as the band released the classic "La La Means I Love You" in 1968, a song that began a string of hits lasting into the mid-70s. The hits slowed for the Delfonics in the mid-70s, and in 1971 Randy Cain quit the band and was replaced by Major Harris. A few more minor hits followed but Harris left the band for a solo career in 1975, effectively finishing the Delfonics. In the late 90s, the group played a significant musical role in Quentin Tarantinos film Jackie Brown. Tarantino, a borderline obsessive fan of 70s pop culture, used "La La Means I Love You," and their best single, "Didnt I (Blow Your Mind This Time)," as a way of underscoring the relationship between actors Pam Grier and Robert Forster. In the film, Forsters character is so struck by the music (and Grier), he goes out and buys the Delfonics Greatest Hits cassette the following day. AND YOU MIGHT ASK: "WHERE ARE THEY NOW? The state of Iowa has used the small dialogue, which refers to Iowa as "Heaven" in many of its promotions, recalling the answer to "Is this Heaven?" which states, "No, this is Iowa." A group of dedicated individuals carried the positive message and entertainment values around the world to tour, perform and spread a unique form of ambassadorship in various places in Europe, Asia and America. The premiere featured at the Fox Theatre in Detroit and honored Vietnam Veterans for their service. Songs used for the feature; "We shall never forget" (theme song), "Mikies Minutes" (tribute to Sgt. Michael Ingram) and "Look Away" (a music video reflection of the treatment of our Vietnam Vets upon their return to the States). I owe a debt of gratitude to Keith for including me in his extraordinary and important work! In October, 2010, Director Agustin Blazquez, chose "You dont know Che" for his documentary, "Che; the other side of an icon" that premiered in Miami, Florida. When I was a little girl I wanted to be a vet, but since I couldn’t stand to see an animal in pain, that translated into caring for my own pets, --all of them rescue-- and activism. I became an actress. But since I don’t play well with others, I became a director. The best part of acting, for me, was the rehearsal and exploration process; I didn’t much care for being on stage. Writing does allow you the time and clearance to explore in depth. Of course, an editor can cramp the exploratory work, but I have been blessed with a handful of editors who are mindful of the creative process, and to them I remain most thankful. Most recently, Gerardo was the lead singer for NG La Banda, one of the most recognized Cuban Salsa and Jazz orchestras in Cuba, under the directorship of Jose Luis Cortes. With NG La Banda, as well as his other groups, Son Yoruba, and Charanga Forever, he has toured in Italy, France, Spain, Denmark, Germany, Switzerland and all throughout the Americas. Yalil Guerra - Dec 20,2010 | He was born in Havana, Cuba, April 27th,1973. The son of the famous Cuban vocal duo Rosell y Cary. His first musical studies were at the National School of Music (ENA) in Havana, Cuba (1985-1991) with classical guitar professor and concert master Jorge Luis Zamora. At the age of 16, Guerra won the International Competition & Festival of Classical Guitar in Krakow, Poland, as well as the Special Prize (1990). Making a tour the following year for different Poland cities. He thus became the youngest Cuban awarded a prize in an international competition. He studied two years at the “Instituto Superior de Música” (I.S.A.) and studied classical guitar with Jesús Ortega, Joaquin Clerch and Efraín Amador. Then he moved to Spain, and obtained his Master Degree in Classical Guitar at the Royal Conservatory of Music “Queen Sofía” in Madrid, Spain with professor and concert master Gabriel Estarellas. (1994-1998) with professors Daniel Vega and Mercedes Padilla Valencia. He received composition classes with composer and professor Aurelio de la Vega, Emeritus professor of the Cal State University, Northdridge, California. Nowadays he writes music for US TV networks such as Univision, Telefutura and Canal 41 Miami; the music of shows such as: FIFA World Cup music theme 2010, Viva el Sueño (2009), the Latin Grammy awards (2005 through 2009), Premio lo Nuestro (2006 through 2010), Up front (2005 and 2006), Escándalo TV, Tributo a nuestra música, Premios Juventud, etc. are among his credits. He is producing and composing albums in his recording facility in Burbank, California. Over the years, I have focused my writing more on "story" styled songs as demonstrated in "You don't know Che!" , "The day God Laughed", "Leavin' Detroit" and the first CD, "Am I Here Already". The topics are varied with each but often touch on cultural or political issues of the day. "Leavin' Detroit", also subtitled "a short musical tale of a displaced autoworker" was released in April 2009 and inspired by the multiple factory closings and job losses in the automotive industry. The 5 track EP chronicles the experiences of one fictitious character "Bob" as he loses his job, then his home and decides to pack up his family and head for North Carolina where they struggle to adjust to the new region. "Am I Here Already" begins with "The line" which was a plea to political candidates in 2008 to deliver the truth to the public. Citizens, accustomed to having to sort through spins and lies, are becoming increasing complacent and disheartened by the political process. Simple truth telling from politicians (a novel idea) would hopefully earn the trust of voters and improve public perception and interest. Most recently, Gerardo was the lead singer for NG La Banda, one of the most recognized Cuban Salsa and Jazz orchestras in Cuba, under the directorship of Jose Luis Cortes. With NG La Banda, as well as his other groups, Son Yoruba, and Charanga Forever, he has toured in Italy, France, Spain, Denmark, Germany, Switzerland and all throughout the Americas. He has played in international festivals of salsa and jazz such as: Toulouse Festival, France; Latin American Festival of Milan, Italy; Festival Fiesta, Rome, Italy; Festival of Múnich, Switzerland, Copenhagen Festival, Denmark; Salsa Festival of Verona, Italy; and, Afro-American Roots of Maracay, Venezuela. Gerardo has also shared the stage with such artists as Oscar de Leon, Roberto Roena, El Gran Combo, La India, Los Van Van, Xiomara Laugart, and John Benitez. Amy was the voice for "I’M FLYING" It was love at first hear, and the rest is herstory and history. "I had a wonderful childhood. Mom and Dad loved music and they both played the piano and sang. For fun sometimes Dad recorded himself playing and singing. I always thought that he should be on the Perry Como show. Like a lot of kids, I took piano lessons for several years. What I learned really helped me when I traded playing air-guitar with the Beatles for the real thing. In my early teens my older sister gave me her old six-string but I found it hard to play, so I kind of gave up. Then she came home from college with her new12-string and wow! I played it whenever I could. This colorful dream started to unfold, like realizing a true passion. Mark Edward Adams began harmonizing in the womb with his mother Virginia Adams in 1951. Virginia, grandmother Susan, father Ed, sisters Beth and Mary, brother Tom, and the young Mark performed at churches and service clubs in and around Marshalltown, Iowa as The Adams Family Singers. The first song Mark recalls writing was VOTE FOR BARRY, during the 1964 Presidential campaign. He also remembers his knees nervously knocking underneath his robe during his solo for the Central Junior High Chorus Christmas Pageant.
