Podcast Description

FOLLOW THE SUMMER AVAILABLE NOW ON iTunes!!! Dave Dill is an American retro indie pop rock musician hailing from Rhode Island and is one of the freshest sounding solo artists breaking into the independent music scene. Having been inspired by such musical giants as The Beatles and Brian Wilson, Dave Dill's music is reminiscent of the pop masters of the 60's and 70's yet retains its own uniquely modern sound heavy on melodic craftsmanship, harmonic vocals, and creative instrumentation. Dill is an independent artist in the purest sense as he is solely responsible for all of the songwriting, vocals, instrumentation, and production. He recently co-wrote and co-produced three songs with legendary British songwriter, Derek Holt of The Climax Blues Band, who wrote and sang the hit song, "I Love You". "...Brian Wilson, his backing Wondermints, and Jon Brion - three L.A. luminaries that popped into my head (maybe a little Emitt Rhodes post Merry-Go-Round, too). But there's also tincey bits of the four horsemen, Beatles, Badfinger, Todd Rundgren, and Big Star—if they'd been recording cheery, feel-good, mellow soft-psych pop with Wilson circa 20/20, instead... Dill's voice, though, reminds of Gerry Rafferty of Steelers' Wheel ("Stuck in the Middle With You) and solo ("Baker Street"), only more harmonies-driven. Very pleasant little disc!"- Jack Rabid - The Big Takeover (issue 62) "Terms like "crafted", "melodic" and "lush" have become so wantonly overused of late that they've almost ceased to p***k up one’s ears the way they used to. Dave Dill's fifth solo set Follow the Summer is all of these things." Andy Morten - Shindig! (Vol2 No.6 • Sept-Oct 2008) "..what makes this disc stand out is that Follow the Summer isn't just the sum of its influences, it transcends them. Dave Dill crafts pristine moments of exquisite pop. Pure pop confections. Adding his own indie verve and sparkling musicianship, he captures all that we love about our 60's and 70's summer pop favorites as if he bottled the light reflecting in a billion rainbows shimmering off the facets of a prism." Todd Severin - The Ripple Effect "Follow the Summer is talented singer/songwriter/producer/multi-instrumentalist Dave Dill's gorgeous ode to summer, nature, love and good vibrations. Combining elements from The Beach Boys, Queen, Badfinger and Todd Rundgren, Dill has created a minor-masterpiece of contemporary Sunshine Pop full of lovely melodies, upbeat lyrics, layered instrumentation, and soaring vocal harmonies." Andy Miracle - Seattle Powerpop "Fabulous! So much of the American power pop '60s thing is formulaic, tired and obvious... Dave is different. Even better than The Wondermints in their prime." Jon "Mojo" Mills Editor in Chief - Shindig! Magazine "Falling somewhere between Brian Wilson/Wondermints and Jon Brion on the pop continuum, Dill has the art of sunshine pop down to an exact science...This one's a must get for fans of sophisticated sunshine pop..." Steve Ferra - Absolute Powerpop "You'd need to be a statue not to be moved by Dave Dill's delightful music...This soaring, triumphant music charts the development of a phenomenal musician and songwriter." Phil Jackson - Zeitgeist "Just listen to the opening four tracks and be prepared to be amazed by Dill’s deft melodic songcraft, sensitive referencing and competent instrumental performances. ...what you get is a POP album that every fan of 60s/70s classic pop must savour." Kevin Mathews - The Power of Pop "...you could keep reading raves all day about Mr. Dill. Every song is strong here and easily gets a nod for Top Ten for 2008. Sunshine pop fans shouldn't even hesitate here. After you buy this album, put it in the player, listen to it, rinse and repeat." Aaron Kupferberg - Powerpopaholic
