[Podcast] How to Squash Your Fears and Advance Your Artistic Career | (http://davecharest.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/07/MONSTER_1-240x240.jpg)Confession time. When I'm acting and about to get onstage I feel a bit sick to my stomach. I also have this recurring thought that I'm going to forget all of my lines. Whenever I write a new song I'm worried no one will like it. If I'm consulting with a client I'm afraid my advice isn't going to work. Even though none of these things ever come true. The fear comes back every single time. Are these fears warranted? Who knows. But the truth is if I let them control me I'd never get anywhere. So what's the secret to squashing those fears so you can move forward? In today's episode of New Media Conversations we're going to discuss: How to squash your fears and advance your artistic career We'll be covering three key areas: 1. Why fear is holding you back 2. The secret to squashing your fears 3. How to make your actions worthwhile And our guest is Kesha Bruce (http://www.keshabrucestudio.com/). [Podcast] Social Media and the Art of Audience Engagement | A little story for you... If you've been following along at home you already know that my wife and I are huge fans of irish rock band U2. Not too long ago my wife and I happened to cross paths with the band's guitarist, The Edge. Well, not one to miss an opportunity I had to introduce myself and my wife to say 'thank you' for all the years of great music and inspiration he and his mates had given to us. Here's what stood in my mind about the whole encounter... Even though The Edge was with people he turned away from them, came over to us and was completely engaged in conversation with us. It's completely possible things could have went the other direction and he just politely dismissed us. But it's really something to have a moment like that be truly satisfying. We left feeling really great about him and about ourselves. And it was all due to those few short minutes of engagement. It really got me thinking. As the more and more people spend more and more time in the online world these brief moments of engagement can also have powerful and lasting impact. And so our topic for today is: Social Media and the Art of Audience Engagement We'll be covering 3 keys areas today: 1. Social Media and the performing arts 2. Engaging audiences with Social media 3. Exploring the world of online performance And our guest is Kate Foy (http://katefoy.com/about-me/). Kate is a freelance actor, voice and dialect coach. And since 2001 she has also been conducting e-learning research. You should follow her on Twitter here (http://twitter.com/Dramagirl). [Podcast] How to Communicate Your Message with Great Design | Imagine for a moment you're standing on a New York City subway platform. In comes a man dressed in raggedy clothes. You assume he's homeless. He then speaks loudly, "Everyone must evacuate the station immediately." Would you take his command seriously? Now imagine the same situation but this time the man is wearing a crisp police uniform. How would your response be different? It's the same message but the clothes have changed. And it's safe to say it's this change in dress that drives your reaction, isn't it? In today's Wicked Smaht podcast award-winning graphic designer (http://zurekdesign.com/about/) Pamela Wilson and I discuss how great design can have a powerful impact on the way people react to your message. Here's what we cover in today's episode of New Media Conversations We explore three key areas in this conversation: * How Great Design Helps You Communicate Your Message * How to Stand Out In a Crowded World * How to Avoid Critical Mistakes You know the drill: Grab a tasty beverage, a pen and some paper. [Podcast] Raising Money Online With IndieGoGo | Wondering about raising money online? Well, crowdfunding is all the rage these days. One of the most popular posts on this site is the New Media Conversations (http://itunes.apple.com/us/podcast/new-media-conversations-with/id389085411) podcast about artists raising money online (http://davecharest.com/how-to-run-a-kick-ass-kickstarter-campaign-podcast) with Kickstarter. But Kickstarter (http://www.kickstarter.com/) isn't the only option. In fact, there's an option that may prove more to your liking. It doesn't have the "all or nothing" component like Kickstarter. The site, IndieGoGo (http://www.indiegogo.com/), let's you keep any money you raise regardless of meeting your goal. Although they do charge a higher fee if you fail to meet your goal. Meeting the project goal In this episode, I chat with Canadian artist, Kris Joseph (http://www.krisjoseph.ca/), who organized a successful IndieGoGo campaign for a rather unique theatrical production of The Turn Of The Screw (http://www.indiegogo.com/Help-us-turn-the-screw-this-Halloween). We cover three main topics in this conversation: * The Turn Of The Screw Project * Working with IndieGoGo * Looking Back to Learn So grab yourself a tasty beverage, some paper and a pen to take notes and enjoy this New Media Conversation. Any thoughts on this podcast? Tell us in the comments. P.S. Be sure to check out Kris's insightful post IndieGoGo: An indie Canadian theatre company experience (http://www.krisjoseph.ca/2011/01/01/indiegogo-an-indie-canadian-theatre-company-experience/) for more.
