Podcast Description

Down in Front is a movie commentary podcast, a film review show where instead of some critic doing a riff on the movie, real filmmakers analyze and solve the problems in the screenwriting and direction.

Customer Reviews

One of the most comprehensive movie podcasts you are likely to find.

I came across Down in Front by a recommendation and must say that I was blown away. While there are many movie commentary podcasts on the internet, not many feature hosts that have worked in movies let alone the movies that are the topic of conversation. Michael "Dorkman" Scott is a visual effects artist known for being one half of the Ryan vs. Dorkman fan videos. Moreover, he knows the ins and outs of proper screenwriting. Brian Finifter is not only an actor but also a source of science and science-fiction knowledge. Trey Stokes is a veteran creature effects artist and has rubbed elbows with a number of movie makers both big and small. Leading this circus is Teague Christie, another visual effects artist, who asks the questions the casual movie viewer wants to ask. What makes a good movie? Why does a certain shot not work? How does an actor prepare for a certain scene? How is a certain special effect achieved? If that isn't enough, the crew is delightfully witty and charming. Also, occasional guest hosts include other special effects artists and even a fight choreographer. There is no other movie commentary that can compete. If you love movies and want to know how movies are made, subscribe now.

One of the best supplimentary material podcasts out there

I'm not even sure what brought me to the Down In Front podcasts to start with, but ever since then well over a year ago, I have been hooked.

As a movie fan for the sake of pure enjoyment, as well as someone who appreciates the deeper thoughts that can be drawn out from what is on screen, I really enjoy what this crew of people brings to the table.

With a range of knowledge ranging from the "never seen this movie before" to "i actually worked on set, see that was me doing that" and everywhere in between, they approach both the good and bad of what cinema provides us with, and gives something to the table that is largely missing from most discussions.

On some shows, it may be a slightly off topic tangent started by a point of the movie, or on others an almost shot by shot discussion of how the shots effects were done and performances created, or possibly a brainstorming session on what could have been done to make the overal movie better than what was eventuall made. Each movie is different, and it is always a blast to see where the discussion might go when you sit down to listen.

If you are a fan of movie making, visual effects, puppetry, or just sitting around and enjoying movies, I highly recomend that you give this podcast a chance.

Juvenile (In every sense of the word)

I've tried to listen to a couple of episodes. It is not for you if you're looking for movie criticism and analysis. It's just a group of kids talking about awesome movies, mostly blockbusters, with nearly a dozen cultural references packed into every minute. Sometimes offensive, but they're not trying to be controversial. They're just kind of callow. I'll stick with the grownups and "Filmspotting."
