Download The Show Electronic Beer Weekly – Episode 60 The Beers Mexican LoggerSka BrewingReviewed by:Adam - Electronic BeerScore3.7out of 5StyleMexican LagerABV4.2%Review NotesIt's been awhile since I've reviewed a lager. Hell it's been awhile since I've had a lager. This one pours a really really light golden color.. (kind of reminds me of a lager). It does have a good two fingers width worth of a bright white head. However the head does dissipate pretty quickly, but does leave a nice bit of lacing. The nose contains a really light citrusy aroma. In my opinion much better then most typical lagers. It has a nice light mouthfeel with a slight bit of a bit on the tip of the tongue. It rolls off the backend really nicely, and seems to contain those same citrusy notes I get on the nose. Honestly I wish that I had reviewed this beer earlier in the summer, because I would have defiantly purchased it a few more times. This is a great light beer. Not your typical adjunct garbage. I say seek this one out. I really don't think you could go wrong. Obviously this would pair with just about anything really nicely. DO IT! SHOOT THE MOON! Hop Syndrome LagerEpic BrewingReviewed by:adminScore3.9out of 5StyleAmerican Pale LagerABV4.6%Review NotesI picked up this brew from my local brew store. It's from release three of Hop Syndrome from Epic Brewing's Exponential Series. Brewed on June 25th, 2011. Poured out of a 22 oz bomber with a surprisingly pale yellow tone with a one inch head that dissipates quickly. Lemony citrus, herbs and spice dominate the nose on this brew. No caramel or sweetness to really speak of on the nose. The sip has a really peppery spicy character to it with some biscuity undertones. The finish is really light, a bit dry and a peppery bitterness with no residual sweetness to speak of. The mouthfeel is really light bodied, which is to be expected for the style and ABV at 4.6%. Overall, this is an insanely refreshing brew with a respectable hop presence. One of the better sessionable lagers I've had in a while. Definitely worth picking up before the summer's heat vanishes. | 9/9/11 | Free | View In iTunes |

ExplicitElectronic Beer Weekly – Episode #59 – Return of the Three Amigos | In this week’s episode of Electronic Beer, we celebrate the return of the Prodigal Son, Chris and drink beer. The guys also talk about some interesting beer news including Blue Moon’s’ special “Blue Moon” release scheduled for next year, Boulevard’s contributions to the Joplin tornado recovery, as well as the new Guinness Black Lager release and finally we checked out the new label for this year’s batch of Surly Darkness. Once again, big thanks to our IRC host thinstack.net and our former music producer Moonlit at bgaaudio.org. You can find Derek on twitter @ddahlen, Adam @electronicbeer and Chris @cloudchaos. Download The Show Electronic Beer Weekly – Episode 59 The Beers Shiner Old-Time AltSpoetzl BreweryReviewed by:Chris - Electronic BeerScore4.0out of 5StyleAltbierABV4.2%Review NotesPours out a nice copper color with 3 fingers of head that dissipates rather slow and leaves some good lacing. On the nose you get caramel malt and yeast with a slight hop presence. On first drink you get chocolate and caramel malt, a bit yeasty with a slight citrus bite that goes away as the beer warms. Gives a nice malty sweetness on the back end. All in all a very good beer that could be session able. Rumble IPAGreat Divide Brewing CompanyReviewed by:Derek - Electronic BeerScore4.0out of 5StyleAmerican India Pale AleABV7.1%Review NotesPours out of a 12 oz bottle with an opaque copper tone and about an inch and a half of head. The nose on this brew has quite a bit of depth with strong notes of vanilla and apricot with some nice touches of citrus and as well. The drink has some really nice oaky vanilla character with a solid shot of caramel sweetness and a hint of alcohol. The lingering presence of subtle sweet vanilla lasts for quite a while. The mouthfeel seems a bit bigger than your standard IPA, but isn't overbearing. Overall, this is an extremely good take with a ton of added complexity on the American IPA style. If you're looking for an IPA with just a bit more depth, this is absolutely a beer for you. Inversion IPADeschutes BreweryReviewed by:Adam - Electronic BeerScore3.6out of 5StyleIndia Pale AleABV6.8%Review NotesA great looking beer in the glass. This one pours out a dark rich copper tone. The head lays with about a fingers width worth. The head leaves a nice bit of lacing as it settles. The nose on this one has a light piney aroma, and that's about all I get from it. This doesn't really have the nose I was expecting for an IPA though. I'm not sure if this is just due to shelf life, but I'm sure it didn't help. All in all it's a pretty good brew. I really just wish I could have had a fresh one. They do however have a homebrew recipe on their site, so maybe I'll give that a go. I think this brew would pair pretty well with any type of spicy food, or maybe even just a nice burger. | 9/2/11 | Free | View In iTunes |

ExplicitElectronic Beer Weekly – Episode #58 – Deep in the heart of Texas | That’s right, the name of this weeks show has absolutely nothing to do with anything in the episode, but I thought it was awesome. Anyhow, this week’s episode of Electronic Beer features Adam reviewing a beer that Derek has reviewed in the past as well as Derek reviewing a beer that Adam has brewed in the past. So basically it’s like the Freaky Friday of Electronic Beer episodes. And, as always, Derek and Adam review and discuss their beers as well as some of the week’s beer news. This week in beer news features: SAB Miller’s continued attempts at purchasing the Foster’s Group A New York City eatery’s 5 liter challenge for a year’s worth of beer The scientific discovery of the source of lager yeast Big thanks to our IRC host thinstack.net and our music producer Moonlit at bgaaudio.org. Download The Show Electronic Beer Weekly – Episode 58 The Beers Lucky 13Lagunitas Brewing CompanyReviewed by:Adam - Electronic BeerScore3.8out of 5StyleAltbierABV8.9%Review NotesThis beer pours with a good two fingers width worth of head. Head retention on this one seem to be pretty good as well as the lacing. The nose has a really great grapefruity / citrusy aroma. When it hits the tip of your tongue it has a bright bite to it, that really seems to fall inline with the 80 IBUs that it packs. I really like the finish on this brew. It doesn't have that atypical IPAish aftertaste, and seems to just roll right off on the back end. I really like this beer, and would probably reach for it on a special occasion. I could imagine this pairing well with just about any spicy food. Though don't take my word for it. Go pick one up for yourself. Racer 5Bear Republic Brewing CompanyReviewed by:Derek - Electronic BeerScore4.4out of 5StyleAmerican India Pale AleABV7.0%Review NotesPoured out of a 12 oz bottle into a low ball glass with about an inch of head and a clear golden tone. The sniff has a nice floral character with some grapefruit peel and just a hint of pine resin as well. The taste has some solid malt presence which is almost honey-like. The bitterness on this lingers nicely with that similar grapefruit that I get on the nose. The mouthfeel is a bit on the lighter side than I expected for the ABV which makes this brew pretty refreshing. Overall, this is definitely a brew worth seeking out. Another great everyday American IPA. | 8/26/11 | Free | View In iTunes |

ExplicitElectronic Beer Weekly – Episode #57 – It’s not a schooner, it’s a sailboat | Happy Friday! This week’s episode of Electronic Beer features two old-school beer styles the German Hefeweizen and the Porter. As always, Derek and Adam review and discuss their beers as well as some of the week’s beer news. This week in beer news features: The addition of the two-thirds pint in Britain. Dubbed by Aussies as the Schooner SAB Miller’s investment in the blossoming Chinese beer market Portland’s craft brewery density and the lack of suburbian breweries As always, big thanks to our IRC host thinstack.net and our music producer Moonlit at bgaaudio.org. The smell gives off some nice orange peel with almost a chalky character to it as well. The taste has some nice fruity orange with a slight bitters component to it as well. The mouthfeel is medium bodied and fairly smooth which aligns well with the stlye. Overall, this is a pretty standard hefeweizen. Definitely something I could drink a few of, but not a gold standard for the style. Black Butte PorterDeschutes BreweryReviewed by:Adam - Electronic BeerScore3.6out of 5StylePorterABV5.2%Review NotesThis week I have the Black Butte Porter by Deschutes Brewery. This beer pour a nice dark chocolate brown. Not much as far as head though. I would say maybe half a fingers width worth. The nose is pretty amazing on this one. Some dark chocolate blended with a great hint of roasted coffee. Not really a lot of carbonation on this one up front. On the back end you get a nice bitterness with a bit of the roasted coffee aftertaste. Overall this is a pretty good beer, and I would buy it again for sure. I do know one thing is for sure, and that is that I need to start drinking more porters. | 8/19/11 | Free | View In iTunes |

ExplicitElectronic Beer Weekly – Episode #56 | Another week, another episode of Electronic Beer. This week Derek and Adam discuss beer towers at bars and whether or not they are really necessary. With the news of the 15% growth in craft beer volume the gentlmen discuss craft beer saturation and the importance of the update of local breweries and local beer. As always, the guys give their review of two exceptional beers one being a new take on an old friend, Summit’s 25th Anniversary Ale, and a solid belgian standard Delerium Nocturnum. As always, big thanks to our IRC host thinstack.net and our music producer Moonlit at bgaaudio.org. You can find Derek on twitter @ddahlen and Adam @electronicbeer. Download The Show Electronic Beer Weekly – Episode 56 The Beers Delirium NocturnumBrewery HuygheReviewed by:Adam - Electronic BeerScore4.3out of 5StyleBelgian Strong Dark AleABV8.5%Review NotesI've been waiting for awhile to review the Delirium Nocturnum. This one pours out a nice dark rich amber color with about a finger and a half worth of tan head. The head does dissipate pretty quickly and doesn't leave much lacing on the glass. On the nose I get a wonderful spicy wild berry scent that seems to change as it warms to bring in a hint of raisin. The mouthfeel brings very little carbonation and a great thick velvety mouthfeel. On the finish I'm left with a slight alcohol burn and a backend that is a little more tart than I would have expected. All in all this is a beer you MUST try. There really is a reason they've been brewing this beer so long. This would go great with a steak and potatoes. Silver Anniversary AleSummit Brewing CompanyReviewed by:Derek - Electronic BeerScore4.6out of 5StyleAmerican India Pale AleABV6.5%Review NotesPoured out of a 12 oz bottle into a Mother Earth Brewing Company pint glass with a pale golden tone and about an inch of head. The nose has some incredibly fresh, grassy citrus and tropical fruit hop aromatics which is supported by a nice caramel sweetness. On first sip I get some grassy piney bitterness with almost a caramelized citrus flavor as well. The lingering bitterness is very reminiscent of the stalwart Extra Pale Ale (EPA), but has a but more punch to it. Even with the extra IBUs, the brew still retains the balance that is so key to a solid IPA. The mouthfeel is medium bodied and incredibly smooth. This beer is drinking extremely well right now. Overall, I think this is a fantastic, modernized twist on the always delicious EPA. I'll definitely be enjoying this over the next few weeks. | 8/12/11 | Free | View In iTunes |

ExplicitElectronic Beer – Episode #55 – Correct me if I’m wrong… | In yet another week of beer babbling, Adam and Derek are joined by our British bud Chris to talk about the state of the UK beer industry and more specifically the Brewdog vs. CAMRA debate. In celebration of #IPAday, the gents drink a few hoppy brews from the likes of New Holland and Ska Brewing. Derek also briefly talks about his homebrew weekend as well as the UK smoking ban and the onset of Vaping (eCigarettes) in UK pubs. As always, big thanks to our IRC host thinstack.net and our intro/outro producer Moonlit at bgaaudio.org. You can find Derek on twitter @ddahlen and Adam @electronicbeer. Download The Show Electronic Beer Weekly – Episode 55 The Beers Farmhouse HatterNew Holland Brewing CompanyReviewed by:Derek - Electronic BeerScore4.2out of 5StyleBelgian Pale AleABV5.8%Review NotesPoured out of a 22 oz bomber into a Duvel snifter with a clear bronze color and a good 3.5 inches of head. The nose is a wonderful blend of belgian yeasty characteristics and hoppy goodness. The yeast hits me with some nice pear and apple while the hops come in on the back of the nose with some citrusy and slightly piney notes. As I dig a bit deeper while the beer warms, the farmhouse does come into play with a hint of tartness. The drink has some spicy rye-like characteristics with slight caramel undertones, some green apple tartness and finishes with a crisp dryness. The mouthfeel is incredibly light and smooth which makes this beer quite drinkable especially during these dogs days of summer. Overall, I think this is a great twist on a traditional style Decadent Imperial IPASka BrewingReviewed by:Adam - Electronic BeerScore4.4out of 5StyleImperial/Double IPAABV10.0%Review NotesHow I love thy IPA. This one pours out a beautiful golden amber color. The head is white in color, and pretty much non existent. The head also disappears fairly quickly, and leaves little to no lacing behind. On the good side though this one has a wonderful grapefruit nose with what seems to be a nice light hint of berries. As you would expect with an IPA you get that great bite on the tip of your tongue that seems to match the aroma. The mouthfeel on this one seems to be a bit more syrupy than I would have expected, but still great. The finish has a slight bitterness. However it doesn't leave that extremely bitter aftertaste like you might expect. Overall I think this a great little brew. If I'm craving an IPA this would be one I would reach for. I would imagine it would go great with any type of pork or spicy foods. Thanks SKA for a great IPA! | 8/5/11 | Free | View In iTunes |

ExplicitElectronic Beer – Episode #54 – A Smattering | In this week’s episode of Electronic Beer, the gents drink a smattering of deliciously rated brews from the likes of Stone Brewing Company and Ska Brewing. The guys also read into and discuss the Molson-Coors research study that claims women prefer less carbonated beers with less flavor. We call bollocks on that. Additionally, Abita’s plans to can their brews is covered. As we’ve mentioned before, we’re on the lookout for additional contributors to Electronic Beer, so if you think you’ve got the writing chops let us know at feedback@electronicbeer.com. This time I've got the Ska Brewing "The Blonde Dubbel". Right off the bat I must admit I love any brewery that uses an "e" on the end of blonde. As for head one this one I get a good two fingers width. This brew has a nice clean light floral aroma with a subtle hint of coriander. As for color it has a nice semi dark golden appearance as I would expect with a blonde ale. The mouthfeel on this one is really nice and smooth. Not to heavy, and not to light. There are some wonderful spicy notes that carry through to the back end to help this one finish off really good. This would make a great beer to share with friends on a nice summer afternoon. It would probably pair well with grilled pork, or maybe a nice piece of blackend fish. If you see this one in the store I say go for it. IPAStone Brewing CompanyReviewed by:Derek - Electronic BeerScore4.3out of 5StyleAmerican India Pale AleABV6.9%Review NotesPoured out of a 22 oz bomber into a Duvel glass with a beautiful amber color and about 2.5 inches of head. The nose screams with grassy, citrus and mild pine notes. I'm also getting just a hint of apricot as well. Definitely some classic west coast IPA aromatics here. The taste has some great caramel notes with quite a bit of citrus punch. There is a very slight amount of sweetness which finishes a bit dry with a nice lingering bitterness. The mouthfeel is medium bodied and smooth. Definitely on-par with the ABV and sweetness of this brew. Overall, this is a fantastic American IPA. Definitely something I could drink anytime when I'm in the mood for some hops. If you haven't had this one yet, I highly recommend you do. | 7/29/11 | Free | View In iTunes |

The beer itself has a really rich brown color. I get a nice clean dark malt aroma with a real faint scent of citrus, and maybe just a hint of coffee. The lacing cascades nicely down the glass as I continue to drink. The mouthfeel is actually pretty thin on this one. I really expected more of a full bodied experience from this one. I just get a nice lightly carbonated tongue followed up with a typical brown ale mouthfeel. This beer is good, but nothing to write home about. Don't go out of your way looking for this one. InvocationWild Heaven Craft BeersReviewed by:Derek - Electronic BeerScore4.4out of 5StyleBelgian Golden AleABV8.5%Review NotesThis is another of the selections I picked up at Hop City during my trip to Atlanta this year. Poured out of a 12 oz bottle into a Duvel snifter with an inch and a half of head and a hazy copper orange. The nose has some spicy pepper with dense floral aromatics and some caramel sweetness. This nose really showcases the yeast character as well as any other Belgian Golden Ale. The taste has some nice sweet biscuit maltyness with a very subtle touch of apricot and a slight bitterness. If anything, I could say this beer could be a little less sweet, but it's certainly good as is. The mouthfeel is smooth with a touch of bitterness on the backend, leaving this a very approachable and drinkable Belgian ale. Overall, I think this is a nearly perfect homage to the style and is definitely something I'd enjoy drinking on a regular basis. | 7/7/11 | Free | View In iTunes |

Download The Show Electronic Beer Weekly Episode 49 The Beers Coconut PorterMaui Brewing Co.Reviewed by:Adam - Electronic BeerScore3.2out of 5StylePorterABV6.0%Review NotesThough I'm not normally a huge fan of the porter style. I would have to say this is a porter that I do like. Pours with a nice dark (almost pitch black) color along with about three fingers width worth of tan head. Real coffee and chocolate nose right off the bat. Great great nose. Sadly the taste doesn't follow up for me. I get a real subtle coconut taste, but really nothing to write home about. The mouth feel is pretty flat in my opinion. However I haven't had a great deal of porters therefore I'm not sure if it's just the style or the beer itself. Overall this is a good beer, but not a "great" beer. Would probably pair well with a nice pork dish. The WizardShort's Brewing Co.Reviewed by:Chris - Electronic BeerScore4.5out of 5StyleBarleywineABV11.0%Review NotesPours out a very dark amber color with a finger of tan head. On the nose you get a citrusy hop aroma with a hint of raisins when it warms up a bit. At first you get a hop bite and then a mellow malty flavor and a bit of raisin when it warms and a hop bitterness and a bit of an alcohol bite on the backend. Unplugged Smoked Rye AleNew Glarus Brewing CompanyReviewed by:Derek - Electronic BeerScore4.2out of 5StyleSmoked BeerABV9.8%Review NotesPoured from a 12oz bottle into a Duvel snifter with an extremely little amount of head. On the nose I get quite a bit of smoke, it almost seems like I'm smelling a Hickory BBQ sauce. I'm having a hard time getting anything else on the nose with this one, the smokiness really predominates. The taste has a great complex malty backbone with a smoky finish. The mouthfeel is smooth and a bit on the heavy side, but definitely drinkable. Overall, this is a super smoky beer. Definitely a smokehead's brew, but not necessarily my favorite style. | 5/19/11 | Free | View In iTunes |
