I really like this series but...

I have to admit that I am a little behind on watching the latest episodes. I just finished the STEMI Statistics episode with Dr. Barger. First let me say that I am not from California and, in fact, am not a huge fan of the systems there. That being said, in watching this episode I found something incredibly scary that reenforced my dislike for the California way of doing EMS. The warning messages on the life pack 12 and 15 are 9 times out of 10 completely wrong and, from what I got from the video, to base your whole system for deciding whether or not a pt. needs to go to a cath lab on the ***ACUTE MI SUSPECTED*** reading is INCREDIBLY dangerous. Most good medics know to lightly consider, but mostly ignore the *** warning messages and really take the time to examine all of the leads. Some of my budies and I at my service have had heated debates with the Life Pack technicians about the accuracy of the warning messages (and the accuracy of the automatic BP cuffs). I've found that Life Pack people will swear up and down that their product will fly you to the moon if you want it to, but you won't find me strapping stat pads to my butt and calling myself Neil Armstrong anytime soon.

Thank you!!

I live and work in the SF area so I can't always make it to San Leandro for AMR ALCO's hot topics series. Thanks to you I just caught up on three months of topics! Always great speakers and interactive discussion between the MDs and medics. Keep it up!!!
