The Ephphatha Vision | The dual emphases of Ephphatha Reformation Ministries is Reformed Christian parenting and Reformed discipleship to Christ. Parents must first follow Christ in their own life, then lead their children to be His disciples as well. | 7/25/11 | Free | View In iTunes |

The Lost Generation | Sociological research led by Christian Smith, composing the largest religious survey of American youth ever, and reported in his book Soul Searching, describes the most common religion among youth in America—and it is not Christianity. How did we lose a generation? Was it stolen, or did well-meaning parents and churches forfeit it? And how can we bring it back? | 7/25/11 | Free | View In iTunes |

Shepherding Hearts | Discipline is often misunderstood in our day as means for merely modifying behavior. God wants more than outward conformity from us and our children; He wants our hearts and obedience that flows forth through the power of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. This session examines how we can shepherd our children’s hearts to live genuinely out of the grace of the Gospel, using the two primary means with which God has equipped parents: communication and the rod. | 7/25/11 | Free | View In iTunes |

It Takes a Church | Parents are called to take the lead in the faith education and formation of their children, but the challenge must be met in the context of the church and with the partnership of the covenant community. Thus, the church must be affirmed and parents can be encouraged to know that they are not alone. | 7/25/11 | Free | View In iTunes |

Parenting on Your Knees | God’s call to parents is to “teach them diligently,” but not without continual prayer. Prayer is the believer’s admission of weakness and even helplessness before God. For parents that means continually entrusting themselves and their children to their heavenly Father “who is able to do far more abundantly than all that we ask or think, according to the power at work within us,” thus preparing them to recognize the blessing of God when they see faith and repentance in their children after years of instruction. | 7/25/11 | Free | View In iTunes |

A Biased but Honest Review
I'll admit from the start that I am the Director of Ministry for Ephphatha Reformation Ministries. But I can't resist passing along the gist of the many favorable comments we received in response to "Teach Them Diligently: The High Calling of Christian Parenting." Short named "Diligence 2011," this conference was held on July 16, 2011, in Sioux Center, Iowa, where we called upon attorney Kenneth Wingate (Columbia, South Carolina; author of "A Father's Gift," Banner of Truth, 2009) as keynote speaker ("Not One Hoof;" "Call Her Blessed;" and "It Takes a Church") and also invited several area pastors to offer seminars, including Rev. Spencer Aalsburg ("Shepherding Hearts"), Rev. Nicholas Davelaar ("Parenting on Your Knees"), and Dr. Brian Janssen ("The Lost Generation"), to speak to the issue of Reformed Christian Parenting. The result was an important and memorable day, and we hope that the listener will enjoy and benefit from these addresses and seminars as much as those in attendance that day. My own contribution was the second main address, "The Ephphatha Vision." The comments were entirely favorable, one person even noting that he had not heard a man speak with such wisdom (referring to keynote speaker Ken Wingate) for a long, long time. The bottom line is that Christian parents are in desperate need of encouragement in our day, while the Christian family languishes for lack of biblical vision and definition. The practice of family devotions needs to be revived, and parents need to hear the call even further to take up the fuller practice of family worship and even catechizing their children in the home in the knowledge of God's Word. Please listen and recommend to others as you are so led. And may Christ be glorified as King and Head of the church and the Christian home. Thank you. —Stephen Rhoda
