3 social networks to start for independent professionals | A new podcast and a new way to podcast: making a podcast while driving in the car. That is why you hear some noises of the car, other cars, windshield wipers (it was raining). I like it with these noises, it adds a dimension. Do you like it?During this podcast I will talk about the 3 most important online platforms, social networks, that you can use as an solopreneur to increase your visibility. Or better yet, platforms that you can use to connect with your clients, target audience and partners.LinkedIn LinkedIn (http://www.linkedin.com) - business network. Almost no personal or private messages. Site available in English, Spanish, French, German, Italian, and Portuguese. You can complete your profile in your own language if you have only local business. You can create a professional profile for yourself. You can also create a profile for your business. More articles on LinkedIn (http://ernohannink.com/tag/linkedin) and connect with Erno on LinkedIn (http://www.linkedin.com/in/ernohannink)Facebook Facebook (http://www.facebook.com) - business and private network. Site in English and 69 other languages. A platform with more than 500 million users world wide, lots of non-business. This offers a lot of opportunities, especially if the consumer is your target market. You always start with a personal profile and than you can create a Facebook page for your business. More articles on Facebook (http://ernohannink.com/tag/facebook) and connect with Erno on Facebook (http://www.facebook.com/ernohannink)Twitter Twitter (http://www.twitter.com) - business and private network. Site only in English, Spanish, French, German, Italian, and Japanese. Little space in your profile to tell more about yourself or your business, 160 characters and a URL. Not really a platform like Facebook or LinkedIn, more a micro blog. You can have a network by interacting with other people and create lists for example. More articles on Twitter (http://ernohannink.com/tag/twitter) and follow Erno on Twitter (http://www.twitter.com/ernohannink)There are plenty of other online networks but let's first start with these 3 major players to get connected.Applications Maintain updates and send updates to Twitter, LinkedIn and Facebook. Seesmic (http://seesmic.com) - in your browser and on your desktop. Tweetdeck (http://tweetdeck.com) - only on your desktop Hootsuite (http://www.hootsuite.com) - only in your browser | 9/8/10 | Free | View In iTunes |

Remove Twitter updates from your Facebook News Feed | There are a lot of people with a profile on Facebook that send their Twitter messages to Facebook. Often the rate of updates on Twitter has an overwhelming effect on the Most Recent News in Facebook. Switch off those Twitter, FarmVille, FourSquare messages from other people.See your Most Recent News in Facebook: (http://ernohannink.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/08/remove-twitter-status-updates-facebook.jpg) For me those messages have value in Twitter and not in Facebook. Be gone. How?Move with your mouse over a Twitter message and click on the 'X' at the right of the message. (http://ernohannink.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/08/remove-twitter-status-updates-facebook2.jpg)click on 'Hide Twitter' (http://ernohannink.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/08/remove-twitter-status-updates-facebook31-500x161.jpg)And all the Twitter messages are gone. (http://ernohannink.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/08/remove-twitter-status-updates-facebook4.jpg)You can do the same with messages from FourSquare, FriendFeed, FarmVille, MafiaWar and all the other messages you really do not need to see. | 8/30/10 | Free | View In iTunes |

Add audio to the mix | This is probably not new to you: a Podcast. And it is a great way to add audio to your blog or website. You can create a Podcast with music, a radio show, or just talk.I want to make the blog posts available in audio, except for the posts with a lot of screenshots. This way you can download the audio version to your iPod or MP3 player and listen to the article in the car or during a walk instead of reading the article.Download now (http://ernohannink.com/audio/first-podcast-27-aug-2010.mp3)This first Podcast in English is an overview of the equipment that I purchased and installed to do this in a professional way. After careful research for the right microphone I have selected the Blue Yeti (http://www.bluemic.com/yeti/). (http://ernohannink.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/08/blue-yeti2.jpg)Via Amazon.co.uk (aff) Blue Microphones Yeti USB Microphone (http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B002VA464S?ie=UTF8&tag=ernohannink-21&linkCode=as2&camp=1634&creative=19450&creativeASIN=B002VA464S)(http://www.assoc-amazon.co.uk/e/ir?t=ernohannink-21&l=as2&o=2&a=B002VA464S)This is a USB condenser microphone connected to the PC without any downloading or installing of software. The microphone is huge and is not for on the road recording. This microphone is on my desk and I will do more recording right at my PC.The second product is especially for on the road. With this voice recorder I can record a quick note, a thought, an idea, and the most important one for me, record my presentations. The Philips LFH0888 (http://www.p4c.philips.com/cgi-bin/dcbint/cpindex.pl?ctn=LFH0888/00&scy=us&slg=en) (http://ernohannink.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/08/philips_lfh0888-216x250.jpg)Via Amazon.co.uk (aff) PHILIPS LFH0888/00 Voice Recorder + 4 x LR03 Alcaline Xtreme Power AAA Batteries + 2 Free (http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B002GWW9IG/ref=as_li_ss_tl?ie=UTF8&tag=ernohannink-21&linkCode=as2&camp=1634&creative=19450&creativeASIN=B002GWW9IG)(http://www.assoc-amazon.co.uk/e/ir?t=ernohannink-21&l=as2&o=2&a=B003ZJ0VTI)For the editing and recording I have installed Audicity (http://audacity.sourceforge.net/) on my PC. It is open source software for Windows, Mac and Linux. For Windows 7 I use the Beta version (http://audacity.sourceforge.net/download/) that is really good and was easy to install. For people with a Mac I hear a lot of good talk about Garageband (http://www.apple.com/nl/ilife/garageband/).To get the podcast easy and beautiful integrated in WordPress I use the Blubrry PowerPress plugin (http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/powerpress/)Have fun listening to the mp3. If you have any tips for podcasting or when you have a great subject for a podcast just let me know in the comments.Download the podcast now [5 Mb] (http://ernohannink.com/audio/first-podcast-27-aug-2010.mp3)Update: The Blubrry PowerPress and Headway theme have some conflict so the player is not showing now. Looking for a solution. Not sure what happened but now it seems to work. | 8/27/10 | Free | View In iTunes |
