Interesting Idea, Flawed Execution
The idea of this podcast really appealed to me. A woman talking about what it is like to be an ex-pat in Thailand where a lot of Westerners go for sex tourism. What I wasn't expecting was the negativity towards Thai women and men, and Western men. Thai women are obsessed with money and out to scam Western men. Western men are self-deluding jerks who convince themselves prostitutes are their girlfriends. And of course she has no one to date, because the Western men are only intersted in prostitutes (dating local Thai men is apparently not possible). She also finds it repulsive to date someone who indicates they like lady-boys. This was an unexpectedly negative podcast and more puritanical than I expected. Combined with the low production values (her voice is staticy and breaks up) I won't be listening to any of more of these 'casts.
Nice Idea but...
My family and I spend a lot of time in Thailand and we agree that the author seems to stereotype things quite a lot. It's our suspicion that she probably has the same problems back in her country of origin.
Fascinating! Unusual glimpse into an exotic world.
Despite mediocre production quality, this is a highly unique audio blog and gives a highly uncommon perspective to life in Thailand. Only 4 stars, because of audio quality and jumpy editing. Hungry for more!
