Late Cambrian - Shut In / Trilobytes | Late Cambrian is melodic and saturated guitar pop/rock with lyrics that broach existential dread, relationships truths and celebrity, all topics met with optimism in the face of nihilism... If that sounds heavy, it doesn't come across that way in the deceptively simple song structures that favor melody and simplicity but filter through an original songwriting voice. And they rock... Eden Culture - Why Didja | As an artist and musician, Eden knows no boundaries for expression. The Fine Art graduate from University of Toronto and McMaster is currently publishing her first album, which exhibits jazz-influenced songs of heartache to contemporary electronic-pop tunes about politics and lifestyles. Eden dedicated her ambitions to establish a music career, promising originality and creativity in her material for a wide range of audiences. Songs such as “In My Window” draw on her jazz influences and contain bold lyrics, mainly inspired from a love of artists such as Edith Piaf and Amy Winehouse. Her more recent recording “Atom Bombs and Broadway Songs” is reminiscent of Tracy Chapman’s hit “Fast Car”, but demonstrates a vocal style similar to Florence Welch. Eden’s classical music education began in her early childhood through the Royal Conservatory. By ten years old she was self-taught at guitar, at which point she started writing her first songs. She took up a love for jazz under the guidance of Juno award nominee pianist and songwriter Martin Aucoin, and her first audition at the Gladstone Hotel won her the studio time to record her first hit “In My Window”, produced by Don Darby of GSM Beats. Eden continues to discover new sounds while exploring different twists on jazz and pop standards. In promoting her two singles Eden has been asked to perform at some of Toronto’s most well-known venues, including the Operahouse and the Rivoli. Her samples, live recordings and gallery are available on her personally-designed website www.edenculture.com and Eden is an avid self-promoter on social media sites. With tremendous feedback and positive audience responses, Eden is preparing to bring her artistic vision to the music industry. The Weed Garden - Anchors | The Weed Garden is the product of composer and multi-performer Paul Barsom's interests in rock, pop, and avant garde. Growing up immersed in an eclectic spectrum of music including '60s pop and R&B, progressive art rock, European concert music and the broad range of styles spawned during the fertile 1970s, Barsom spent his youth and early adulthood in a series of working bands of various styles. At the same time he was studying classical music, at first on his own, then in college and graduate school, ultimately earning a doctorate in composition from The Eastman School of Music. The unhealthy environment he had experienced as a road-seasoned bassist and singer from age 13 to 22 pushed him toward the steadier and safer path of academia, while doing only occasional band work. Just out of graduate school he began teaching composition and electronic music at Penn State University. But it was the staid and insular nature of conservatory culture and music that eventually led him back toward a creative middle road that melded his passions for composerly craft and intelligent song writing in a rock medium. Thurlow - Walking Hearts | Thurlow is comprised of husband and wife duo, Jacqueline Caruso and Augustus Green. This couple began honing their musical skills together five years ago on the East Coast, but are now based in the burgeoning LA neighborhood of Highland Park, where they've joined forces to create their own brand of lo-fi indie pop with a DIY aesthetic. Thurlow are currently in the midst of preparing for the Fall 2011 release of their Walking Hearts single, a collection of warm melodic indie electro-pop confections showcasing a breadth of influences ranging from The Beatles, Portishead, and Broadcast to their life long love affairs with blues and jazz. Effortlessly blending strains of pop and electro beats, along with divergent vocal harmonies, Thurlow generate a layered and textured sonic soundscape with uniquely structured songs, while still maintaining the pop sensibilities they know stand the test of time. This combined with a songbook of tracks musing on the trials of love and life gives their sound a heartfelt and personal quality. Their varying backgrounds unite to aid the development of their distinct sound; with Jacqueline's roots in classical piano and musical theater, which she studied at American University, contrasting Augustus' lifelong exploration of electronic music, synthesis, sound design and music production. The title track of their Walking Hearts EP highlights the strengths that Green and Caruso bring to the duo. With Green's intricate sound design and Caruso's mesmerizing melodies, Walking Hearts proves that this duo is one to watch. Having shared the stage with the likes of The Heligoats, The Sweet Hurt and Birdlips, Thurlow are about to embark on their first West Coast tour in November in support of their first EP, Spokes, available on bandcamp and itunes, as well as the new Walking Hearts EP. Billy Anne Crews - Hard Life To Live | Billy Anne Crews has played music since she remembers being alive. Billy was born in Waukegan, IL and raised in Chattanooga, TN. While most kids were out doing what they do, Billy was in her room listening to records and studying the lyrics. Decades of piano lessons and a music degree later, Billy still just wanted to plug in a guitar and write songs. Even though she played several instruments over the years, Billy really loved singing and writing lyrics the most. 80s and 90s indie rock had a big influence on Billy's songwriting, but so did many singer/songwriters that she loved so well. Known as the Southern Grunge Chick, Billy plays a unique style of music in the Americana genre. She resides in San Diego, CA and continues to play clubs in the US and England. King George - Nothing Left | With a sound based on emotive melodies and powerful rhythms, Australian band King George has been described as having “a unique mix of light and dark in their music.” (Buzz Magazine, MARCH 2009). Song writer and vocalist, George Zois says “It’s taken a while for us to find the right direction with our sound – we always wanted to be able to bring a deep, emotional content to our music, but not lose our rawness”. The band debut album 'Prisoners Of The Pluto Junction' was released in February 2010 that took then band from Melbourne to New York in 2011. Drummer Michael Makris adds, “The album is definitely the direction we want to take musically. It is a fair departure from anything we have done before. We have been able to keep the same dynamics of our past recordings, but have added a new level of professionalism in the way we have structured and actually recorded the music. We are really confident this album can appeal to a lot of the punters out there.” With major influences including U2, Faith No More and The Killers, there is a diversity in what King George has to say. “Our favorite albums are Achtung Baby, The Real Thing, Hot Fuss, BloodSugarSexMagic and Appetite For Destruction. Of course, we have drawn inspiration from these bands and would be wrapped if we become half as good and successful as what they are.” The band has slowly been building its fan base and has included some unique initiatives to help get their message across. Previously King George’s songs have been available via a USB wrist band, specifically made so fans can wear the band’s music like a badge of honour. This has received a positive response - so much so that the band is looking to release their material in the same way as well an online digital release. The album will also include a film clip, the band’s first, which has recently been played on Rage in Australia and New Zealand. “With the success of Nothing Left, we decided it would be great to include a film clip so people would get something visual that they could relate to”, says Michael. The band’s second single, “Birthday Girl”, is another song that found its way on the album in a visual form. George says, “We really want to explore our creativity behind the camera as well as in the studio.” The trip to US has had a major impact in the band with George doing plenty of writing in New York. The band have returned to Melbourne and are currently recording new material with a new single due for release in November 2011. The Redland - Cross That Line | The Redland Hailing from the The Redland’s of Louisiana and Oklahoma, the name, The Redland, represents much more than a geographical local. It is a concept representing a new paradigm in music. A movement born out of the soil, from the root. The Redland is both a noun and an adjective; a state of mind and a word that describes music that is not just heard but felt-- In the soul. Wow! Are they Hip Hop? Yes. Reminiscent of a time when the art form was real. A natural and honest reflection of the times, with prolific lyrical content, void of all the commercialization that characterizes and dilutes the sounds of today. The Redland is a movement. Ushering in the little heard voices of change. The voices and lyrics in this instance are Earvin and Kose, two former Morehouse College students who left school and responded to the pull, the desire, and a passion to create music that would fill the soul while keeping our heads bobbing. Music that would have a lasting life. With an acute appreciation of the intellectual messages behind the imperial musical innovators and revolutionaries from years gone by, The Redland transverse through hip-hop boundaries so that on any given song all people from all walks of life can identify with what they are saying. Earvin Legend’s lyrics tend to be calculated and proper as if he was rapping to a room full of politicians, and Kose is a very poetic, deep thinker, so his lyrics tend to touch people from all walks of life The Redland Hip Hop theredlandmusic.com | 12/14/11 | Free | View In iTunes |

Olya - Independ-a-nt | Music was not just a hobby in her family – it was a lifestyle, a way to comprehend the world... Since Olya's early childhood, her mom would often engage her in innocent musical exercises: learning harmonies to a new song, singing songs in different keys, or improvising to her mom playing the piano. Since the age of 7, Olya have been singing in the Big Children’s Choir of Moscow Radio and TV, touring around Europe and performing on Moscow largest concert stages including Moscow Conservatory, State Kremlin Palace and Tchaikovsky Concert Hall. As a college student, she joined a rock band as a lead singer and started performing in Moscow nightclubs. In March 2000, Olya's family moved to America. Her musical aspirations were put aside: she was too busy diving into textbooks with a dictionary on her lap, working two part-time jobs, enviously staring at the quiet shadow of her guitar resting in the corner – the only reminder of her life in Moscow. Finally, after graduating from Boston University, Olya moved to New York. That was the time when she first tried to express herself in rhymes and sounds and wrote her first song. New York is a unique place: it pushes you forward - it burdens you, it drains you - it electrifies you with new energy. The city and its inhabitants became Olya's plentiful source: at times a source of frustration, then motivation, and ultimately inspiration and a desire to express. Frequently Olya says: "Hey, at the end of the day, a relationship is worth my time as long as I get a song out of it!" In October 2010, together with Marc Osborn, she produced and self-published her first EP "Carefully." Olya Rock, Singer/Songwriter olyamusic.net | 12/12/11 | Free | View In iTunes |
