Specifics

This is an excellent venue to get reviews on the more popular game releases. I find it superior to other game journalism websites' written reviews for many reasons. For one, each episode is dedicated to one title, and can be anywhere from 30 to 90 minutes of pertinent information, substantiated opinions and sometimes entertaining debate. Since it's in the form of an audio podcast, as opposed to a written article, it also inherits the luxury of being presented in a passive format, so you don't have to go out of your way to spend time reading it. You can listen to it on your commute or while working. There will usually be anywhere between 2 and 5 persons offering separate opinions on a game. They communicate well the aspects of gaming they like, so it is very easy for the listener to identify with at least one of their perspectives. That in itself is superior to most other internet review sites, most of which are written by a single freelancer, not to mention the common accusation of reviews being biased by bribing PR representatives...
Lastly, the best part of this review system is that it does not follow the traditional numeric rating system, whether that range from 1 to 5 or from 0.1 to 10.0, which no matter how you cut it up always comes down to a single vague number. The games are given one of four simple ratings, from multiple people. They don't always agree, but they give you a short, simple, direct descriptive rating of the game, preceded by a comprehensive approach to explain that rating. By the end of the show, the listener will have a crystal clear idea if the game is a classic, if they should definitely buy it, or just try it out for a weekend, or to not even bother.

Great Review Format (Instant Classic)

The Reviewcast and its companion podcast Bullshot! are my two favorite video game podcasts. The Reviewcast is the primary way that fourplayercoop.com reviews games. I really enjoy reviews in an audio format like this because of how organic the disscusions become. These guys are very funny, relatable and show an enormous passion for video games. I could easily see myself hanging out with these guys and just talking about video games for hours. They touch on all the things you want to know about with the games and have a fun time doing it. At the end of the show they don't grade the games with a letter grade or score like most reviews of video games, they tell you what you really want to know. They answer the question, "Do I want to play this game?" or "Should I play this game?" They tell you to either Don't Bother, Try It, Buy It, or if it attains the lofty Instant Classic recommendation. When you get down to it numbers and letters are so subjective that they don't mean much at all, but a recommendation like this is exactly like what I would expect to hear from a friend. This way I can hear it from at least two other people too. Also along with this is they each individually give their recommendation rather than having to come to a consensus. It allows you to be able to identify with a particular reviewer if you want, although it is rare for there to be a large difference of opinion. In the vein of their system I give this podcast an Instant Classic and would recommend it to anyone who enjoys video games.
