CleanMark7:1-13 | Our lives are governed by rules. Everywhere we go, we are asked to follow them in order to keep the peace and stay safe. Some of us break the rules. Some of us make up even more rules (ones we can keep) to make us feel good. The religious leaders of Jesus' day were no different. But are there consequences to this? What did Jesus have to say about our habit of "rule-making?" The sermon today was taught by Paul Richardson. Paul serves on staff at West Ridge Church in NW Atlanta, and also leads efforts in Greater Atlanta and Burkina Faso to tangibly share the love of Jesus. This podcast was recorded during our 10:00am Gathering on Sunday February 19, 2012. | 2/20/12 | Free | View In iTunes |

CleanMark 6:45-56 | Mark presents Jesus as the most powerful, most worthy, and the One who will baptize with the Holy Spirit. Then he presents Jesus' power over creation and over the consequences of our own decision to do things our way, instead of according to God's plan. Lastly, Mark shows how Jesus empowers those He had chosen, as well as how He uses a clear sign of His authority and power to seal this promise despite the disbelief of the disciples. However, we, like the disciples, have trouble understanding what this means. How would you feel if the person you love and admire invites you to have dinner alone, but suddenly you are interrupted by a stranger, you have to serve dinner for this intruder, your loved one says to you: "Go to this place and wait for me while I dismiss this person," and then you end up soaked in the middle of a storm trying to get there? In this week's message, Bill Medina (our Director of Cross Cultural Competency) walks us through the end of Mark 6 as we look at this very story unfolding with the disciples. CleanMark 6:30-44 | All throughout the Gospel of Mark, Jesus is depicted as a compassionate teacher. He cares for the real physical needs ofpeople by healing them of their ailments, feeding them, listening to them, and teaching them. In many ways, he displays the characteristics of the shepherd in Psalm 23. In today's passage, we will see how Jesus' compassion motivates him to care for others. But is there an even deeper message in this miracle of feeding thousands? And what could it mean for us? This weeks message was taught by our Gathering Director Derek Miller and was recorded during our 10:00am Gathering on Sunday February 5, 2012. | 2/7/12 | Free | View In iTunes |

CleanMark 6:17-29 | All throughout human history, people have been attracted to scandalous news stories. Anything to do with royal families, sex, and religion is a sure way to capture people's attention and sell newspapers or magazines. This week's Scripture text has all three of these emotional elements rolled into one story. Is there encouragement to be a faithful witness and to maintain hope in a story as painful and ugly as this one? What could we learn from the horrific execution of John the Baptist? CleanMark 6:14-16 | There are only two passages in Mark's Gospel that are not about Jesus. Coincidentally, both are about the same person. Who? In today's teaching, we will find that this person parallels Jesus in a surprisingly clear way. One of the most important lessons we can learn from this special person is the cost of truly being a Jesus follower. CleanMark 6:7-13 | Jesus was not - and had no intention of being - a "solo artist" in the work that the Father had called him. Rather, from the beginning, he called, designated, and taught a select group of followers. In today's teaching we see that Jesus sends them on a tribal mission as his representative and with his power, which is a beautiful connection to the Lord's table. May we have eyes to see it. CleanMark 3:31-35 | In the early chapters of his gospel, Mark seems to lay a foundation on the reality that Jesus is causing a division between people. In the chapter 3 text for the weekend, "those inside" and "those outside" seem to be comparable to ourselves. For the people of His day, sticking with Jesus caused an unexpected and unwelcome division. Sounds a lot like today, doesn't it? CleanMark 3:20-30 | Have you ever witnessed a peaceful protest? I am talking about one in which hundreds—if not thousands—of people walk, talk, carry signs, and stay calm, while a few dozen police officers lean up against a patrol car or a wall and watch from the other side of the street. What causes these protests to turn violent? It might be the same thing that happened to Jesus. It is easy to turn violent toward another when you demonize that person. CleanMark 3:7-19 | What comes to your mind when you think of a "follower of Jesus?" What would he do? What would she be like? Depending on your perspective and experience, a litany of adjectives could be applied--both positive and negative--to those who claim to follow Jesus. This week, Derek Miller (our Gathering Director) led us to take a closer look at this group who Jesus chose to follow and represent Him in the world. Perhaps you may find yourself within the stories of this rag-tag group that was chosen to be with Jesus! CleanMark 3:1-6 | Have you ever encountered a legalist? How can we, as Gallery Church, relearn what it means to live in a rhythm of work and rest while helping others do the same, without becoming legalists ourselves? In this week's passage, Mark tells another Sabbath story that brings two enemies together to plot against Jesus. Why so mych hatred on the Sabbath? | 11/14/11 | Free | View In iTunes |

CleanMark 2:23-28 | Most of the world's religions place great regard on sacred places, such as Mecca, The Ganges River, or a temple. Judiasm, at the time of Jesus, had a sacred temple, but they also placed great regard on something even beyond the temple: time, the Sabbath. So why would Jesus use this most sacred regard as an opportunity to teach and reveal Himself? CleanMark 2:18-22 | Christians look back at the coming of Jesus Christ as the moment when God did the great new thing that He had promised. Now everything is different because of what Jesus has done. Sadly, this fact doesn't stop us from continuing to take part in the old things that have been killing God's world for generations. Unfortunately, it also doesn't motivate us to do new things in Jesus. A great deal of the Christians' fight for wisdom is simply this:Sorting the New from the Old. | 10/31/11 | Free | View In iTunes |

CleanMark 2:13-17 | Mark 2:13-17 seems to parallel the calling of the four fishermen in Mark 1:16-20. Why would Mark tell two very similar stories so close together? Is there something special about Levi? Who was he? Does what he was doing make his story different from the fishermen's? The answer: OH, YES! CleanMark 1:35-45 | Information often has a way of leaking out. From government secrets to prominent technology releases, sometimes people can't seem to keep their mouth's shut! Yet, is it not natural to want to share good news? When something amazing happens to us, we cannot help but share it. So why would Jesus heal someone and then forbid him to tell others about it? This weekend we looked at one of the first examples of Jesus using that wisdom durning His ministry, wisdom that often leaves us scratching our heads in confusion! Perhaps Jesus' words, or lack thereof, teach us something about how we ought to interact with others. This weekend we had the privledge of having Derek Miller, our Gathering Communities Director, walk us through our 7th week in our Mark series. | 10/19/11 | Free | View In iTunes |

CleanMark 2:1-12 | There is so much drame in this week's passage. This scene must have been similar to the packed out and tense fencing area along the sidewalk where the Ravens enter M&T Bank Stadium. What courage and determination the men in this passage had to have, to carry a paralyzed friend to the roof of a house and then dig a hole into it! How shocking would it have been to see a man coming down through the roof! How did this story end? What happened to the paralyzed mand when he met the living, forgiving God in Jesus? This podcast was recorded during our 10:00am Gathering on Sunday October 16, 2011. | 10/19/11 | Free | View In iTunes |

CleanMark 1:9-13 Part 2 | The baptism of Jesus introduces us to the three parts of what theologians have called "the Trinity". Sometimes the trinity is illustrated as the three displays of water (vapor, liquid, and ice), but a true understanding of the Trinity is so much more than this! Join us this week as we attempt to look a little deeper into this reality and examine why acknowledging the Trinity at the baptism of Jesus was so important to Mark. CleanMark 1:1 | This is the opening message to our new Mark series. This week we will try to build a foundation that explains John Mark's audience, what they were living through culturally and spiritually, and then examine how they are similar to us here in Baltimore. We hope that you can get an understanding of the Great wind of God's Spirit that was moving through Jesus' followers and filling them with a sense of joy. That same promise and Spirit is availible to us thousands of years and thousands of miles away from the original readers of this letter. CleanMark 1:1-8 | Imagine: you are sound asleep. It is one of those sleeps in which your body has completely checked out of this world. Then one of your neighbors ruched into your bedroom and throws back the blackout curtains, allowing the sunrise to fill your room with light. You neighbor yells at the top of his lungs, "This is the day that you have been waiting for!" and dumps a pitcher of ice-cold water on your face! Mark begins his gospel with this same kind of energy and excitement and this week we start to look into what he was so excited about, and how his audience may have understood that excitement.
