Episode 60 - "Ex-Gay" with Wayne Besen and Dr. Jallen Rix | Maybe we should thank Michele Bachmann. Not for her hateful intolerance, or rage against LGBT equality, but for bringing the misguided notion of “ex-gay” therapy to the national stage. We’re honored this week to talk with two great guests who are fighting back against the “ex-gay” myth. Wayne Besen is the founding executive director of an organization called Truth Wins Out. It was his group that exposed the “ex-gay” therapy practices of Marcus Bachmann’s counseling center, even after vehemently denying his counselors promoted such therapy. From Wayne, we turn to Dr. Jallen Rix. Dr. Rix is a sexologist from California, but more importantly, he is a survivor of “ex-gay” therapy and is the author of the book, “Ex-Gay No Way: Survival and Recovery from Religious Abuse.” His story of how he came out on the other side is not to be missed. This week we the state and speak first with Marriage Equality New York’s Yetta Kurland. We spoke with Yetta in the weeks leading up to the vote, now she’s back and joining us from Manhattan to share her thoughts on how things went down - and what this means for New Yorkers and LGBT communities across the U.S. Then we head west to the other side of New York and talk to Brant and Steve from Buffalo. Episode 54 - Civil Unions and AIDS LifeCycle | Sometimes we forget while we are fighting for equality, it wasn’t too long ago that we were fighting for our lives. While some would argue those battles rage on in the face of mounting opposition, we here at GSB like to take a more optimistic approach. Thirty years ago the U.S. had its first recorded cases of AIDS and HIV. The Center for Disease Control reported five cases of pneumocystis carinii pneumonia in LA and 26 cases of Kaposi’s sarcoma in LA and NYC. It couldn’t be more fitting that AIDS LifeCycle/Ride to end AIDS is kicking off their 10th Anniversary ride this morning in San Francisco. We talk to Jeff Katz from Instinct Magazine as he gets ready to lead Team Instinct on the 545 mile bike ride. It’s an event that has brought hope, healing and much needed dollars to our fight against HIV/AIDS. Of course, making news this week was also the landmark enactment of the Illinois civil unions bill that grants most of the rights and privileges of marriage to same-sex couples. While many are celebrating the success, others are careful to point out the journey is not over, and separate is not equal. We talk to Chicago-based activist and blogger, Waymon Hudson about his state’s civil unions and what they might mean for full marriage equality. | 6/5/11 | Free | View In iTunes |

Episode 53 - New York Pushes for Marriage | Maybe this wasn’t the best episode to give the boys wine instead of coffee. Hey, if the subject of marriage equality doesn’t interest you, listening to Jim and Matt get progressively more toasted as the show goes on is sure to entertain. At least they held it together enough to have a really cool chat with Yetta Kurland from Marriage Equality New York to talk about the new coalition created to make same-sex marriage a reality in the Empire State. New Yorkers United for Marriage includes the Empire State Pride Agenda, Freedom to Marry, the Human Rights Campaign, the Log Cabin Republicans and Marriage Equality New York. Much of the country is looking at what’s happening in New York as a possible model to achieve full equality. So even if you don’t live in New York, be sure to tune-in for this really fun and interesting chat. Did we mention the wine? Of course, no episode would be complete without Big Gay News and everyone’s favorite, Grindr Guy of the Week. The show closes as it does every week with our featured artist in Singers and Storytellers. Matthew David joins us this episode with his OutMusic Award-nominated hit, Masquerade. A great way to cap off an amazing show! | 5/22/11 | Free | View In iTunes |

Episode 33 - DADT Repeal and Holiday Pet Care | Rarely do we have something as momentous as the repeal of Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell. For nearly 17 years, the discriminatory law required honorable members of the military to serve their country in silence. With the swift actions of a “lame duck” congress, the law banning gays and lesbians from openly serving in uniform is now history. We are honored to have former Army Sergeant, Darren Manzella, who was discharged under Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell with us this week to share his thoughts on the pending repeal. Be sure to check out the Servicemembers Legal Defense Network (SLDN) for more information. Of course, it’s also the holiday season! For many of us, that means spoiling our furry friends and four-legged family members. To help us do just that is Chris Haight from Honey Hill Pet Center. Audio please
From what I could make out, I like the show and the content. I like the sound of the guy's voices but......the sound quality is the pitts. Really really bad. The host is very low volume and the other person sounded like they were on Skyp with a very bad connection. I'll try to listen to a few more episodes but there are so many well produced shows out there (Feast of Fun) that there is no reason to put up with a show that is just a pain to listen to.
Love it
Downloaded the 3 most recent episodes and listened - very impressed! Yes, as someone else mentioned, the sound quality on one of them was off, but the rest were better. Excellent interviews, interesting guests, great topics - I love it! I'll continue to listen!
