VideoEpisode 6: Dinner in The Sky - Las Vegas - Voyage.tv | When it comes to Las Vegas dining the sky’s the limit, literally. Dinner in the Sky offers an extreme dining experience by suspending its hungry patrons more than 160 feet above ground. Diners are seated around a large table and safely secured in their seats before a crane lifts the dining platform up into the air for a stunning panoramic view of The Las Vegas Strip and surrounding desert. Before liftoff, guests can mingle in the Sky Lounge, sip Champagne and nibble on some hors d’oeuvres. Diners have the option to book a table for a group or join one of the regularly scheduled “flights,” which are listed on the Web site. The Menu: A choice of two entrées includes the Take It to the Top, filet medallions with bordelaise sauce sautéed in mushrooms, or the Sky Chicken, a baked chicken breast stuffed with prosciutto, artichokes and gorgonzola cheese. Vegetarian options are available upon request. Desserts and hors d’oeuvres are chef’s choice and promise a tasty beginning and end to your meal. The Must-Have: The red carpet VIP reception includes a drink and a photo that shows you looking like a celebrity about to hop on your private magic carpet ride for dinner. For extra pampering and a mere $20, you can arrange for hotel pick-up and drop-off. | 6/15/05 | Free | View In iTunes
VideoEpisode 5: Tuscan Market - New York - Voyage.tv | Everyone knows that New York is a melting pot; people from all over the world have brought unique aspects of their homelands to the city, as seen in fashion, design, cultural events, language and heritage. The best part about all this influence, however, is the food! From Chinatown to Curry Hill, New York restaurants offer flavors and cuisines from around the world. Those who want a taste of rustic Italy, and also an authentic lifestyle experience to accompany it, need look no further than Salumeria Rosi on the Upper West Side. It was opened in 2008 by the Rosi family, who for the past 30 plus years have owned and operated Panacotto in Parma, a company producing artisanal quality cured meats. Partnering with chef Cesare Casella, they created this specialty foods shop and tiny restaurant that brings the delicious meats, cheeses and accompaniments of old-world Italy right to the heart of the city. Done in rich wood tones, the relaxed dining room evokes the ambience of a contemporary Osteria. Small plates like Costina (spicy Tuscan spare ribs) and Acciughe Marinate (marinated anchovies) are accompanied by a robust Italian wine list. But, the best way to indulge at Salumeri Rossi, is just as the Italians would: at the meat counter. Proscuitto, pancetta, sausages, salami, speck, mortadella --- if you can pronounce it (or even if you can’t), you’ll be able to try it here and take it home. The knowledgeable and jovial counter staff complete the experience, sharing tastes of the offerings and tidbits of advice. | 6/15/05 | Free | View In iTunes
VideoEpisode 9: Aureole - Las Vegas - Voyage.tv | Central to Charlie Palmer’s Vegas outpost of his famed New York City restaurant is a 14-foot-tall Plexiglas and steel enclosed tower housing all the bottles found on the menu’s wine list. Inspired by a scene from the movie Mission: Impossible, designated “wine angels” in harnesses zoom up and down the lofty wine rack with Cirque du Soleil–style drama. This futuristic vision is enhanced by soft floral arrangements, swan motif and a burgundy and gold color scheme that exudes regalia and dignity. Located in the Mandalay Bay Hotel, Aureole brings Las Vegas dining to new heights. The Menu: The theatrics of Aureole extend to its cuisine. Focused on seasonal ingredients, the dishes are composed using fine French cooking techniques that showcase comforting American flavors. Try the sea scallop sandwiches in a crisp potato crust, or the wood-grilled filet mignon in a cabernet reduction. For a real sampler of Palmer’s talents, hit the main dining room and order the prix fixe tasting menu. For something even more special, request the Swan Court, where live swans swim in a pool around you. The Must-Have: Offering nearly double the options found at most restaurants, the dessert menu barely does justice to Palmer’s idiosyncratically presented sweet treats, which will be the crowning glory of an unforgettable meal. | 6/15/05 | Free | View In iTunes
VideoEpisode 10 : Harbour Lights - New York - Voyage.tv | The spelling may be British, but this New York restaurant on the waterfront in picturesque South Street Seaport is unmistakably American. The dining room extends out over the East River, offering glittering views of the Brooklyn Bridge, and New York City’s iconic skyline. This is an ideal spot for private parties, receptions and romantic evenings for two. It’s really all about the vistas here (the clientele is mostly tourists who wind up here after a day shopping on seaport) and Harbour Lights is one of the few restaurants in the city that affords such a breathtaking postcard-worthy backdrop. The Menu: First courses focus on seafood, with a raw bar that offers fresh, sea-salty oysters and meaty shrimp, among others. After that, your biggest challenge is choosing which direction to go: monkfish fricassee or the pasta special like lobster Ravioli? Soy and honey-grilled tuna steak or pan-roasted pork chops? And the sides, which include buttermilk whipped potatoes and garlic and herb roasted risotto, make deciding especially difficult. The Must-Have: At this restaurant, the absolute must-have is not a particular dish, but a particular table. Dining out on the deck with panoramic vistas makes a filet and lobster tail surf-and-turf even more enjoyable, or a shared dish of Seafood Royal (clams, oysters, shrimp, lobster, smoked salmon and tuna tartar) all the more romantic. | 6/15/05 | Free | View In iTunes
VideoEpisode 3: Mas - New York - Voyage.tv | Tucked on a winding side street reminiscent of a European city is Mas (farmhouse), a West Village gem distinguished by floor-to-ceiling windows framed by old oak boards. Inside, a warm dining room, which calls to mind a French country home, beckons with sophisticated leather banquettes, white linen tablecloths and handstitched pillows. Owned and operated by James Beard award–winning chef Galen Zamarra, the cuisine at Mas is based on one of his steadfast beliefs: Eat local, eat in season, and you’ll end up eating some of the best meals of your life. The Menu: Zamarra’s menu “follows nature’s lead,” changing daily according to what is harvest-fresh each season. The cuisine is defined as New American with a French influence, and draws its fresh ingredients from several local farms and gardens located outside the city. Dainty amuse-bouches set the tone for excellence, and appetizers such as house smoked duck breast with caramelized apples, braised endive and pickled figs layer succulent flavors without overpowering. Entrees include hearty fowl, fresh fish, prime meats and the freshest of vegetables. Top off the meal with a rich cheese plate or inventive and tasty desserts such as the olive oil cake with pine nut emulsion. Ice cream, in flavors such as nectarine, concord grape and blueberry cream cheese, are particularly unique and satisfying. The Must-Have: Each dish is built on Zamarra’s idea that with great ingredients comes great food, and a changing daily menu ensures that both remain true. Roasted Hudson Valley squab, lobster poached in butter and steamed zucchini blossoms filled with grilled corn and ricotta are just some of the delicacies you can expect on a single night. | 6/15/05 | Free | View In iTunes
| 6 | VideoEpisode 12: The Waterlot Inn - Bermuda - Voyage.tv | Serving up Bermudan food since the late 1600s, this waterfront inn, which once stored sailors’ bounty in its basement, is now home to an award-winning steak house. Three nautical-themed dining rooms, complete with exposed wood beams, Windsor chairs and oil paintings of clipper ships, give you that captain’s quarters feel. A Colonial staircase leads to an upstairs cocktail area, where a classical pianist churns out Chopin. An outdoor terrace and gardens, which feature sweeping views of Jews Bay, are the perfect spots to sip on a Dark n Stormy or enjoy a cigar procured from the inn’s impressive cigar selection. The Menu: Carnivores will rejoice at the choice of steak dishes, including peppercorn crusted filet drizzled with cognac peppercorn sauce; a 20-ounce Kings Cut prime rib; and an 8-ounce filet served with creamy mushroom ragout. | 7 | VideoEpisode 2: Bellefield Great House - Montego Bay - Voyage.tv | Take a walk around the Bellefield Great House in Montego Bay, Jamaica, a luxurious destination for all types of special events. The back lawn and beautiful 200-year-old Guango tree is a fairy-tale setting for elaborate weddings, private banquets and even corporate events. Michell Rouseau, Bellefield’s caterer and event planner, prepares traditional Jamaican dishes, adding a contemporary style to native Caribbean cuisine. For one popular dish, the national fruit, ackee, customarily used as the centerpiece of a breakfast dish, is tossed with garlic, scallions and tomatoes (and a bit of nouvelle flair) to create a creamy pasta dish. Fresh mahi mahi fillets are marinated in lime juice, ginger, thyme and orange zest, steamed to perfection and served alongside breadfruit roasted on an open flame. | 8 | VideoEpisode 8: SeaHorse Grill - Bermuda - Voyage.tv | The Seahorse Grill at Elbow Beach Hotel epitomizes clean, casual Bermudian gentility. A neutral color scheme, high ceilings, rattan seating and stone walls allow the cuisine to take center stage at this Bermuda restaurant; the salty ocean breezes wafting through the dining room hint at the fresh seafood creations to come. On lovely starry nights, opt for an ocean view on the terrace. The Menu: Simplicity and freshness earned the Seahorse Grill the 2008 People’s Choice Award. Uncomplicated yet sophisticated Bermudan seafood dishes are enlivened with global flavors, thanks to chef Tomasz Tabor. The frequently changing menu incorporates the freshest ingredients, offering delicacies such as pan-seared yellowtail snapper with butternut squash two ways, Black Mission figs, baby spinach and port wine au jus; and tiger prawns with garlic butter, dukkah spice, apricots and couscous. A custom grilled entrée menu offers meat, lobster, salmon or wahoo with a choice of side dishes and sauce. The Must-Have: Although the fresh Bermuda fish is always sure to please, the dry-aged Angus beef has also garnered a fair amount of attention. | 9 | VideoEpisode 11: The Point Restaurant - Bermuda - Voyage.tv | The Point Restaurant and Terrace, situated in the Tucker’s Point Hotel, is the epitome of fine dining with a menu and atmosphere meant to exude the old-world charm of Bermuda’s halcyon days. The 80-foot nautical-themed murals that wind around the walls of the 92-seat dining room will certainly be a topic of conversation. The murals, which depict historic clippers and whaling ships in ports across the world in the late 1800s, once hung in Manhattan’s PanAm building. Tables are beautifully laid with bone china, white linens and a single candle, while upholstered chairs are plush and comfortable. The terrace overlooking Harrington Bay is equipped with two fireplaces to keep you warm on sea-breezy nights and is the perfect spot for post-dinner cocktails and cigars. Wine aficionados will weep with envy when stepping foot into the Wine Room, where 3,000 bottles of vintage wines line the walls, wood floor to brick ceiling. The Menu: At the helm of the kitchen is chef Serge Bottelli, who brings sophistication and innovation to the French-global cuisine. Rabbit and white bean stew with pappardelle; pine nut-and-chanterelle-stuffed chicken breast; and the porcini mushroom-encrusted sea bass are some of the standouts. Bottelli’s mushroom-decorated dishes are deftly paired with tantalizing sides, such as ragout of young leeks with carrot reduction and spring succotash with truffle au jus. The Chef’s Table option, where guests can dine in the kitchen and are served a customized tasting menu by the chef himself, is a special treat for particularly serious gourmands. The Must-Have: The Land or Sea four- or five-course tasting menus come highly recommended.
