Podcast Description
Among the querulous island kingdoms of Wefrivain, the only unifying power is religion - a wyvern cult ruled by an eccentric High Priestess. The system is under attack by a gang of pirates called the Guild of the Cowry Catchers who prey on Temple treasure ships. The Temple Police charged with eradicating this menace keep disappearing. Enter Gerard, a young prince, exiled from his small kingdom for rashly marrying the court minstrel. He has been chosen by the High Priestess as the new captain of Police. Gerard is smart, honorable, and a little naive. To break the pirate ring, he must cooperate with a wily, amoral colleague, who has already tried to kill him twice. As Gerard struggles to protect his talented wife, obey his seductive employer, and forge a complicated friendship with his dangerous co-worker, he becomes increasingly aware that the pirates have a legitimate quarrel with the wyverns. Dark secrets lurk in the Temple dungeons, and solving them will cost Gerard far more than his honor.

ExplicitHunters Unlucky and Site Issues | I talk about Hunters Unlucky and explain why you haven't gotten another music episode (but will soon). Here's the description of Hunters: Storm is born into a world of secrets – an island no one visits, names no one will say, and deaths that no one will talk about. The answers are locked in his species’ troubled past, guarded by the fierce creasia cats. But when Storm’s friends are threatened, he decides that he must act, pitting himself against the creasia to show that they can be resisted and outwitted. To prove his point, he must stay one step ahead of clever hunters, who have more to lose than Storm imagines. Hunters Unlucky is an animal story for people who loved Richard Adam's Watership Down, Rudyard Kipling's Jungle Book, and Jack London's Call of the Wild. The animals in this story do not carry swords, walk on two legs, or drink tea. They fight. They starve. Sometimes, they eat each other. Read more starting here. | 11/12/11 | Free | View In iTunes |

ExplicitRenee Chambliss Interview – 2 | This is the second interview I did with Renee Chambliss. It was recorded on Sept 1, 2011, more than 6 months after the first interview. At this point, Renee had listened to all of Book 3 and beta read for Book 4. Stuff we mentioned: J. A. Konrath's blog post about sex in his stories Renee's African animal pictures If you want to comment on our discussion, I have created a thread on the forums. You can comment here, of course, but these posts get closed to comments after a few weeks to prevent spam. It's easier to have threaded discussions on the forum. | 10/20/11 | Free | View In iTunes |

ExplicitRenee Chambliss Interview – 1 | Hi, folks. Sorry for the month of silence. This is the 1st of 2 interviews I did with Renee. This one was recorded on Feb 27, 2011 after she'd recorded all of Dakar's lines, but had not seen/heard most of the rest of the book. Since she's a fan of the podcast, I thought it would be fun to do an interview with her before she heard the rest of the story. We kind of went on and on. If we bore you, I'm sure you know how to find the fast forward button. Stuff we mentioned: Dreaming of Deliverance Renee's Blog Unpublished, Not Dead Joe Konrath's Blog Joe's interview with Victorine Lieske, author of the 0.99 eBook I mentioned. | 10/5/11 | Free | View In iTunes |

ExplicitD*Con and Feeding Malachi | Eve is an inquisitive baby rat who regularly escapes from her cage. One night she meets a strange creature in a glass tank across the room—a boa constrictor named Malachi. The snake is amused by Eve’s questions, and he awes her with stories of the wilds where he was caught. What will happen to their fragile friendship when Eve discovers what Malachi eats? Can they devise a solution that will save both Malachi and Eve’s family of rats? Feeding Malachi is a 6,000-word story, divided into 10 short chapters. The story is illustrated with beautiful ink drawings by the Sarah Cloutier, who is also the cover artist. The story has a few scary moments, but also a happy ending. If you and your child enjoyed the whimsical dialogue of The Little Prince or the loveable characters in Janell Cannon’s Stellaluna and Verdi, you will enjoy the adventures of Eve and Malachi. ExplicitPaper Books for Cowry Catchers! and other updates | You can buy the paper vision of Cowry Catchers, Book 1 from CreateSpace. You can also buy it on Amazon, but I make almost twice as much per book if you buy it from Create Space. This book is NOT illustrated. That would make it prohibitively expensive. It has a black and white map, and it does look very sharp. Please give it to all your Luddite friends who don't consume digital/audio books. :) I'll be at Balticon the last week-end in May if you want to meet me. ExplicitIf you really can’t wait for the rest of Book 3… | You can get the eBook now. I'm not asking you to buy it. I'm not asking you not to buy it. I'm just letting you know that it's available. The Guild of the Cowry Catchers, Book 3: Ashes, Deluxe Illustrated Edition - Amazon, Barnes and Noble, Smashwords Here's what I am asking: Cowry Catchers could use your help to get noticed. If you have an extra 0.99 cents, buy Book 1: Embers on Amazon or Barnes and Noble. It will move me up the rankings and help new people find the books. If you can buy Cowry Catchers along with another popular fantasy title, that's even more helpful because it creates "people who bought this also bought this" linkage. :) I suggest: George Martin's A Dance with Dragons pre-order - Amazon, Barnes and Noble (I'm not finding it on BN right now. I'll link it when I do.) George Martin's A Game of Thrones (first book in his Song of Ice and Fire series) - Amazon, Barnes and Noble The HBO mini series is about to launch. If you're an existing fan who is considering re-reading the books in honor of the upcoming TV show, perhaps you'd like to buy the books again for your Kindle...and buy Cowry Catchers 1 at the same time. :D Also, if you are already missing Norm's voice, mosey on over to The Drabblecast and Drabblecast B-sides, where he will read to you for hours. | 3/12/11 | Free | View In iTunes |

Or, you know, just buy one. ;) To enter the contest, you need to create an ad 160 pixels wide by 600 pixels tall, using artwork from the books. It can be a JPG, PNG, or GIF. It can move if you wish, but it must be no bigger than 100K. Enter as many times as you like. I may use all ads, even those that don't win, to promote CC. Post your entries in the forums or send them to me (hilton at fauness dot com). Contest ends Feb 1st. We will vote on the most provocative ad (most likely to make people click and stay) the following week. Also, if you want the piratey font that I use in the titles of my books, it's Windlass. ExplicitPromo for Book 1 | I have a promo! Listen and tell me what you think. I'll be releasing a short 1 minute version (under the Promo/Backcover tab) for anyone who can spare me one minute, but not three. The long promo is better, though. I'm done with all but the outros for Book 1. It will go live on Friday, December 11. If you have a podcast and want to include my promo, I'd be delighted, but please don't run it until I have content up on the 11th. Music is by Beth Quist ("Grace" and "Monsters") and licensed with permission from Magnatune.net. | 11/23/09 | Free | View In iTunes |
| 98 | ExplicitVideoPreview of the preview | I'm playing around with the video trailer. This is not the final version, but I kind of like it. In the final version, I will probably overlay snipets of voice actor dialogue with the music. Some people will recognize some of those voices (which is exciting all by itself), and it will also add another dimension to this presently-over-simplistic preview. This version does conflate Silveo with Gerard because of the way the words and pictures came together. That's too potentially confusing not to fix. Anyway, it still looks neat. | 5/2/09 | Free | View In iTunes |

A Masterpiece!
This marvelous book expands the fantasy world of Panamindorah Abigail gifted us with in her
Prophet trilogy and it does so with afterburners. A fresh set of characters are meticulously and
imaginatively crafted, bringing them to 3-dimensional life with the skill only a master can hope to achieve. The story is enrapturing, charming, and thrilling, with empathetic heros and truly dastardly villains. The adventure itself is superb, outstanding on its own merits. The production quality, with top notch actors delivering journeymen performances, and seamless editing make this one of the best audiobooks ever produced. Abigail's innovative addition of artwork to illustrate the episodes, and the inclusion of text versions to anticipate all our needs, set new standards for this evolving medium. The listener need not have completed the Prophet of Panamindorah series to be enthralled by this gem, but it too should not be missed. This book is of the class which make me jealous of those who have not been seduced by it yet, as I know how much they will enjoy it, experiencing it for the first time. If you wonder that my praise may be more hyperbole than thoughtful analysis, please avail yourself of the iTunes links to see my other reviews. This one, my friends, is the real deal!
Great Work!
I am thoroughly impressed at the world building, the unfolding plot and the fabulous full cast production with this story.
Norm Sherman and Nathan Lowell are wonderful together as the lead voice talents.
My current favorite and I'm enjoying every second of it.
Intriguing plot, rich characterization, deft world-building, i.e., GOOD
Abigail Hilton's Guild of the Cowry Catchers is utterly delightful. It's really a joy to experience the polished work of a talented writer/producer. All of the elements are in place and working together smoothly and beautifully. The setting of the world itself is sweeping, diverse, and spacious and yet is gradually revealed with vivid intimacy. When authors do this properly you simply feel as if you are there, in a wonderful (sometimes menacing) place that existed long before you arrived. The rhythm, the pacing, and the texture of the narrative guide you in to the world, sometimes gently and seductively, and sometimes suddenly and rapidly. As a consequence, the feeling of listening to the story unfold is like being on a sea voyage; times of tempest, times of thrilling excitement, and times of peaceful contemplation in between. The characterization. Each character is important and well thought out. One mark of a good author is that she has much more in her imagination than what is written on the page. The characters then seem to be alive in their own right and not just slaves to the narrator's perspective. In this way, we are able to be surprised by what they do, say, and feel. Wonderful!!! The writing reveals an experienced, masterful hand. The voice acting. Abigail Hilton has assembled a cast of talented actors. Where do these people come from? I have no idea how much work must go into this behind the scenes. They somehow carry it off perfectly. There's no need to suspend disbelief. You get to the end of each episode, the music comes on, and you realize that your disbelief had already been suspended for you. The music. The introductory and closing songs are both beautiful and extremely effective in creating the right atmosphere. The incidental music and main themes are handled with a deft touch. No heavy-handed manipulative moves here. It works. The production. I'm no expert on all of the techniques that go into producing a work like this. I just know that it sounds really good. Well, if it's not obvious, I'm a big fan of the podcast. I think the author/producer has done an excellent job. I feel so fortunate that she's somehow chosen to share her work in this venue thus far. I expect to be paying for it before long. I've tried to write a review that would be useful to prospective listeners. In short: listen to this and if you love fantasy, intrigue and excellent world-building and three-dimensional characterization, you will be very pleased. But all of that stuff aside, as for the story itself, well, I'm loving it. It's fantastic, imaginative, intriguing, and magical. So there you have it: an enthusiastic five stars.
