Podcast Description

Among the querulous island kingdoms of Wefrivain, the only unifying power is religion - a wyvern cult ruled by an eccentric High Priestess. The system is under attack by a gang of pirates called the Guild of the Cowry Catchers who prey on Temple treasure ships. The Temple Police charged with eradicating this menace keep disappearing. Enter Gerard, a young prince, exiled from his small kingdom for rashly marrying the court minstrel. He has been chosen by the High Priestess as the new captain of Police. Gerard is smart, honorable, and a little naive. To break the pirate ring, he must cooperate with a wily, amoral colleague, who has already tried to kill him twice. As Gerard struggles to protect his talented wife, obey his seductive employer, and forge a complicated friendship with his dangerous co-worker, he becomes increasingly aware that the pirates have a legitimate quarrel with the wyverns. Dark secrets lurk in the Temple dungeons, and solving them will cost Gerard far more than his honor.

A Masterpiece!

This marvelous book expands the fantasy world of Panamindorah Abigail gifted us with in her
Prophet trilogy and it does so with afterburners. A fresh set of characters are meticulously and
imaginatively crafted, bringing them to 3-dimensional life with the skill only a master can hope to achieve. The story is enrapturing, charming, and thrilling, with empathetic heros and truly dastardly villains. The adventure itself is superb, outstanding on its own merits. The production quality, with top notch actors delivering journeymen performances, and seamless editing make this one of the best audiobooks ever produced. Abigail's innovative addition of artwork to illustrate the episodes, and the inclusion of text versions to anticipate all our needs, set new standards for this evolving medium. The listener need not have completed the Prophet of Panamindorah series to be enthralled by this gem, but it too should not be missed. This book is of the class which make me jealous of those who have not been seduced by it yet, as I know how much they will enjoy it, experiencing it for the first time. If you wonder that my praise may be more hyperbole than thoughtful analysis, please avail yourself of the iTunes links to see my other reviews. This one, my friends, is the real deal!

Great Work!

I am thoroughly impressed at the world building, the unfolding plot and the fabulous full cast production with this story.
Norm Sherman and Nathan Lowell are wonderful together as the lead voice talents.
My current favorite and I'm enjoying every second of it.

Intriguing plot, rich characterization, deft world-building, i.e., GOOD

Abigail Hilton's Guild of the Cowry Catchers is utterly delightful. It's really a joy to experience the polished work of a talented writer/producer. All of the elements are in place and working together smoothly and beautifully. The setting of the world itself is sweeping, diverse, and spacious and yet is gradually revealed with vivid intimacy. When authors do this properly you simply feel as if you are there, in a wonderful (sometimes menacing) place that existed long before you arrived. The rhythm, the pacing, and the texture of the narrative guide you in to the world, sometimes gently and seductively, and sometimes suddenly and rapidly. As a consequence, the feeling of listening to the story unfold is like being on a sea voyage; times of tempest, times of thrilling excitement, and times of peaceful contemplation in between. The characterization. Each character is important and well thought out. One mark of a good author is that she has much more in her imagination than what is written on the page. The characters then seem to be alive in their own right and not just slaves to the narrator's perspective. In this way, we are able to be surprised by what they do, say, and feel. Wonderful!!! The writing reveals an experienced, masterful hand. The voice acting. Abigail Hilton has assembled a cast of talented actors. Where do these people come from? I have no idea how much work must go into this behind the scenes. They somehow carry it off perfectly. There's no need to suspend disbelief. You get to the end of each episode, the music comes on, and you realize that your disbelief had already been suspended for you. The music. The introductory and closing songs are both beautiful and extremely effective in creating the right atmosphere. The incidental music and main themes are handled with a deft touch. No heavy-handed manipulative moves here. It works. The production. I'm no expert on all of the techniques that go into producing a work like this. I just know that it sounds really good. Well, if it's not obvious, I'm a big fan of the podcast. I think the author/producer has done an excellent job. I feel so fortunate that she's somehow chosen to share her work in this venue thus far. I expect to be paying for it before long. I've tried to write a review that would be useful to prospective listeners. In short: listen to this and if you love fantasy, intrigue and excellent world-building and three-dimensional characterization, you will be very pleased. But all of that stuff aside, as for the story itself, well, I'm loving it. It's fantastic, imaginative, intriguing, and magical. So there you have it: an enthusiastic five stars.
