I really liked this podiobook podcast
I didn't know what to expect with this podiobook. I was going on a car trip about 7 hours away and needed some material for the ride. I picked this by chance and I'm really glad that I did! What a unique view on the world in which we live. I agreed with the author 100% from my own life experiences and I have to admit I now see the world in a little different light after listening to his words. What have I learned? Not to get angry at those who play and don't know any better and to watch out for the players and to know their motivations and what drives them as it differs greatly from what motivates and what drives me as a person. I am now looking for books 2 and 3?? I am willing to buy them but cannot find them yet. I will keep looking but just wanted to post a review for this since I did enjoy it during the ride out to my vacation destination. Great job Mr. Hardy, and thank you for your viewpoint and writings.
Interesting, but you probably know all this already
It's sort of Machiavelli in a Polish canned meat factory. The author draws on his experience as a consultant in a failing Polish company to illustrate the things that most people already know: there is a group of sociopathic, self-obsessed, highly successful people who run things and it's better not to get in their way. If you've read The Prince or anything remotely similar, or The Laws of Power, you don't need to listen to this. The Polish stories were entertaining, but the rest of the podcast was dry, pseudo-economic and marketing babble about how we're all being manipulated and controlled by forces we are too stupid to comprehend. He divides people into either "drones" or "players" and only seems to have sympathy for a sort of idealized version of "the workers." The message seems to be, you're going to lose, you're going to give in to "the game," and you're going to be horribly depressed, subject to a life-sucking "malaise" and it's not your fault and there's nothing you can do about it. My personal pet peeves were the author's tendency to slam "right-wing" religious people and Republicans like Dick Cheney and Karl Rove at every opportunity....and his slightly unusual pronunciation of certain words. Although it was interesting, I'm very glad it's over and I sort of wish I had my three hours back. I'd recommend you take an anti-depressant before listening to this one.
