So unique it's difficult to explain

I’m so amazed by what I’ve discovered here, that I’m anxious to share it. If what I want to share is too long for you just skip over it. Why this podcast is like no other starts here: Like most of us Americans born during my era, I grew up in the Southwest being exposed to music that ranged from country and western, to rock and roll, to easy listening, a lot of pop, some gospel, and even a little classical. In those days, “electronic” had not yet been discovered/invented. So, these genres represented most of what there was to select from. But, regardless of the kind of music, it was only something to listen to, certainly not to experience. But a few years ago, during a period of time in my life when I was dealing with a lot of emotional turmoil, I happened to hear some electronic type music with a groove under beat that just suddenly did something for me no other kind of music in my entire life had ever done. As a result, I started a search to find more. But, I found it required a lot of shopping just to locate a “Maybe.” The further I got into it I discovered I was actually searching for sounds and grooves within a sub-spectrum of the electronic genre. But, because it had no genre identity of it’s own, I started calling this kind of music my Hot Zone music just to give it a label. When I got access to the internet it gave me a way to search the globe. Once you get into this kind of music, you start looking for not only the best, but the ultimate. And believe me, I’ve sorted through a few tons of electronica trying to find the ultimate. And, that's what I've found here. To understand what I’m saying, check out Peter's shows: Fly Away, Beautiful Life, Love in a Waveform, and his Birthday List. These are just a few great samples of what I call “Hot Zone to the Max.” But, do yourself a favor and don’t make the mistake I did when I first got here: Like I usually do, I read the 11 reviews provided at the time and then downloaded a few shows which I planned to check out before I subscribed. I thought because of the way Peter fronts himself, it was going to be a DJ driven show. But, when a “DJ” never showed up in the first program (that I heard), it confused me and led me to think maybe the letters were his initials or a nickname. This threw me off so much, I couldn’t figure out what his podcast was even about even through I had read all the info here. The first show I selected was good, just as the eleven reviews said, but that particular show was a bit too “House” for me, so I never finished listening to it and promptly forgot about the others. A few weeks later, while searching through my library looking for some just-right-for-the-situation background music, I noticed I still had some Canellis samples on file. I thought what the heck, I’ll give them one more try before I finally do trash them. By sheer chance (or was it?), this time I happened to click on one of his more downtempo mixes. Two or three tracks into the show, I began to realize I was hearing some quite unique, even profound, sounds and grooves. And, some of it was an enhancement of music I already had! As a result, I stopped what I was doing, took it off my desktop speakers and put it on my surround sound so I could get the full message. That’s when I knew I had, after a 9-year search, found the ultimate pot of gold at the end of the rainbow. But, “gold” still didn’t describe what I had discovered because I was hearing a depth and quality of electronica I had never heard before. After reading up on him and listing to more of his mixes, I found that what Peter ultimately gives us is not just another podcast to subscribe to, or more great music to listen to . . . instead, I found what he gives we searchers is actually an experiential place to go. And, the cool thing about what he does and the way he does it is, you get to pick where you want it to take you. Depending on the life activities you are into, the choice of places is up to you, and they are limitless. Once I came to understand what his Mission and Method in this podcast are, it didn’t bother me that some of his dance and running mixes are not in my hot zone. In stead, it revealed his uniqueness in this kind of artistry because of his ability to appeal to a wide spectrum of electronica listeners. So now, I just pick the shows that hit my Hot Zone and drag them to an iTunes Playlist where they reside in handy access. I even put some of his tracks on my iPod, and with earbuds, use them as sleeping pills. And, they work especially well on high stress days. If you have not read his bio at his website, go check it out. The more you find out about the guy, and the more you get into his mixes and the depth and quality of his sounds, the more you realize his genius goes way beyond just “DJ-ing.” You discover he’s actually more of a celestial transporter of some kind. No wonder he calls the program: “Soar’n Above The Clouds.” He uses his music to transport you (wayyyyy) above the clouds. And along the way, opposite most DJs, he cleverly keeps his own persona out of sight, but present just enough to let you know he’s there behind the scenes, leading. And, another thing . . . When you start putting your head into trying to figure out where—and how—he comes up with his source tracks, and the effort it takes for him to repackage them and finally bring them to his unique final sound, you realize he’s not doing this because it’s his “job.” At this point you realize he’s ultimately giving his audience a very special gift. I’ve never ever written a review of any kind for Apple or iTunes before in my many years of purchasing here, but I figure if he’s willing to put that much effort into giving us such a beautiful and unique gift, I’ll try to do what I can to Pay It Forward to others. Who cares about all the complaints about the free weekly download singles when this quality of gift is just around the corner?

incredibly beautiful

I came across this podcast as a shot in the dark. And I hit a bullseye. The music is absolutely beautiful and mesmerizing. The perfect music for relaxation and sex. I applaud Dj Peter Canellis many times over. I highly highly recommend this podcast.

its a great listen

For all the down tempo, trip hop podcasts available, this one is worth a listen. So far, they are add-free, talk-free, and all music. Nicely done Peter.
