Omar Kent Dykes & JP Blues Sit On The Couch - Feb 14,2012 | Omar Kent Dykes hails from McComb, Miss. , a town with the distinction of being home turf for Bo Didley. Omar started playing guitar at seven, took to hanging out in edge-of-town juke joints at 12 and joined his first band at 13. He and his band Omar & The Howlers have been spreading their musical word since. After 50 years, 2011 finds Omar tighter, funkier than ever and slated with a great new release in 2012. But Omar always loves to play live. The album is The Essential Collection and it drops the day after we speak with Omar about his incredible musical journey and hear cuts from this new collection. Then John Pagano joins us. You may know him as JP Blues. JP started playing guitar at the age of 8 and by age 10 it was clear that something special was happening here. This "Something Special" was recognized by legendary bluesman Sam "Bluzman" Taylor. Sam took JP under his wing and began to what Sam use to call "SAMerizing" him. The JP Blues Band has a new album, I Will Not Go Quietly and it has spent 20 weeks on the RMR National Blues Charts. John Alex Mason - R.I.P. - Rebroadcast - Dec 27,2011 | Back in April, John Alex Mason took a seat on The Couch. Sadly, we lost Mr. Mason on October 19, 2011 to complications following an operation. Tonight, we will rebroadcast that chat in memory of this great bluesman taken from us way too early. Hailing from southern Colorado and he was a unique artist. His new album "Jook Joint Thunderclap" is a world boogie collaboration of master players from Chicagoland, Holly Springs, Guinea and Colorado. On this project Mason added djembe, bolofon, fiddle, mandolin, harmonica, bass and flos to his one-man band of kick drums, electric guitars and vocals. His shows were a celebration and the crowd became a willing participant in the performance. John Alex and I had a great chat about his life and the things he was looking forward to doing before the tragedy. | 12/26/11 | Free | View In iTunes |

Rahe & Hope Waits Sit On The Couch - with Charlie Morris - Nov 22,2011 | Her name is Rahe (pronounced Ray) and her voice is filled with all colors of the musical rainbow. Rahe’s highly eclectic and diverse approach evolved quite naturally as she was already a world traveler by the time she reached her early teens. Growing up in a military family, she spent most of her childhood in Japan and Spain (the land of her heritage) before settling in Durango, Colorado at 13 years old. A prodigy – she was reading novels at the age of three – and lovingly home-schooled, Rahe was always powerfully drawn to the raw emotions and passionate abandon of earthy, visceral musical expression. She and her group Rahe & illumiNation - a stunning ensemble featuring Rahe on vocals and nylon string acoustic guitar, a saxophone quartet (alto, tenor and two baritones), and drums - have released the album Out of the Box - a totally acoustic, multi-lingual foray into the entire spectrum of her musical vision. We will explore her life and music. Then, we get to sit with Ms. Hope Waits who had to cancel her last scheduled time on the Couch, but quickly accepted our invitation to rebook. Hope brings her difficult childhood and loss of parents to her music. Having to leave home at 15 to escape the turmoil, Hope moved to S. Carolina to be with her older sister. The death of her mother resulted in Hope buying a guitar and teaching herself to play. After touring the south as a solo artist, and with jazz and pop bands, Hope moved to LA where she found a support system that allowed her to record her self-titled debut album. Hope will sit and discuss her life past, present and future while we get to hear songs from this great album. I immediately made plans to bring her on, as this woman is incredible! She learned to play the guitar from her dad at age 13. Born into a family of musicians, she and her siblings performed as teens. The left-handed phenom truly realized her calling when she discovered the bass in high school while listening to Michael Jacksons "You Wanna Be Startin Somethin". While working on her album,Just in the Nik of Time, Nik was asked to join Dave Stewart (of Eurythmics fame) all-female Rock Fabulous Orchestra. Jeff Krantz & Chad Hollister Sit On The Couch - May 04,2010 | It was January 2007 when Jeff Krantz turned in his business suit for a life of rock and roll. Within a year he was named as a finalist for Male Artist of the Year from the International Music Awards. Krantz then took a different road from the life of touring. Using the site SecondLife.com and the pseudonym Hep Shepherd, Krantz streamed 200 live performances from his NYC loft. Billboard Magazine took notice reporting that his virtual shows were ‘sold out’ and he broke attendance records for the site. The music industry caught wind and when Krantz had cut his first demos he heard from Cat Stevens who called his songs ‘meaningful and clear’. Shortly after being honored as a Male Artist of the Year finalist, Krantz received a prestigious Billboard World Song Award. Krantz, assembled a band and dove into his debut studio effort, The Last One to Know, an 11-track LP. We’ll find out what Jeff has been doing since his CD dropped last November and what exactly is his plans for his Greenest Tour. A 10 country, 6 week zero carbon emissions. Then from the hills of Vermont comes The Chad Hollister Band and their brand of rock and roll. Since the late 90’s Chad (Vocals/Guitar/guitar percussion) and his band mates have been out building an audience throughout Vermont and beyond. The band, including Jeremy Goldsmith (Lead Guitar/vocals), Jared Johnson (Bass/vocals) and Drew McKeon (Drums) just returned from a 2-plus week tour of Colorado where their songs are getting airplay recently. Their latest release (fourth overall), the self-titled CHAD HOLLISTER, was produced by Anthony J. Resta produced by the amazing Anthony J. Resta (Collective Soul, Elton John, Shawn Mullins) was #1 at Indiemusic.com for 2 months straight and hit #55 on The Hot 100 Singles Chart. We’ll find out if Chad has any good tour stories from Colorado, how their recent deal with Timberland and earthkeepers.com went down and what the band plans are for the remainder of 2010 and beyond. | 5/3/10 | Free | View In iTunes |

Pierre Lacocque of Mississippi Heat & Carrie Rodriguez Sit On The Couch - Apr 27,2010 | Mississippi Heat emerged in 1991 on a night at the Cafe Lura in Chicago. Since then the band has built an incredible following. Veterans of the Ecaussinnes Spring Blues Festival, Chicago Blues Festival, Lucerne Blues Festival and more, this band reaches down and grabs you by the gut and does not let go. We will speak with Pierre about the origins on the band and where they are headed. If Chicago-style blues makes you smile, don't miss this one. Then we get to speak with Ms. Carrie Rodriguez. Love and family have always been sources of inspiration for critically acclaimed singer/songwriter/musician Carrie Rodriguez, but never have they featured so prominently than on her brand new release Love & Circumstance, a covers album that includes songs written by her father, and once performed by her great aunt. Rodriguez' journey from teenage violin student to touring the world with the likes of Chip Taylor (famed songwriter of "Wild Thing) and Lucinda Williams has resulted in a prodigious output of recordings - eight albums in as many years - for the young musician; with the new album, Carrie relies on others to handle the songwriting duties, she provides the interpretations. The album was just released on April 13th and we will spend time talking with Carrie about her recent tour with Los Lonely Boys & Alejandro Escovedo and where the tour will be taking her in May and beyond. | 4/26/10 | Free | View In iTunes |

Chris Huff Sit On The Couch - Apr 20,2010 | Chris Huff joins us. Chris' last scheduled appearance was interrupted by his trip to the hospital. Well, he is recovering and we will let him lay down if necessary. A throwback to the days when artists worked in multiple genres on the same album, his songs are impossible to pigeonhole while emerging from a spirit that is of a desire to both experiment and provide the pleasures of the best pop, rock and reggae. As a singer, songwriter, producer, and multi-instrumentalist, his sensibilities emerge to create what can only be called “Huffmusic". Based in Bucks County, PA (45 minutes north of Philly) but a native of New York City, he’s played and sung classical, jazz, folk, and opera; he’s studied bluegrass in Kentucky; he’s been in prog rock bands, large soul groups, and alternapop combos; he’s scored film and performed children’s songs. It all adds up to experience that few other musicians can match, and it is an eclecticism that is at the heart of his music. What is Chris up to? Will his hospital stay influence his songwriting? | 4/19/10 | Free | View In iTunes |

There is that down-home blues/rock and roll quality about his songs that makes my feet begin tapping as soon as he hits the first note. In concert, he and the band have that funky tightness that might remind you of bands like Little Feat. " Fresh from another tour of Switzerland (his 10th in a row), Charlie will be here with stories of the tour.
