Indie Rock Cafe Review
The Indie Rock Café Podcast is not messing around. They jump right into the music sans intro. The lack of intro or any kind of explanation threw me off though. Most of the podcasts I've heard have an intro song in which the host will cut into and introduce the show and present the order of events. Knowing this, I tend to tune out the first bit of podcasts until they get around to playing the music I came to hear. So, for the first Indie Rock Café Podcast I listened to I did my usually routine of tuning out the beginning until I realized the beginning was the thing I wanted to hear! After I got over this silly little mistake of mine I was able to enjoy the podcast much more.
The Indie Rock Café Podcast plays a huge variety of indie rock bands, most of which are under ground indie bands. The podcast is based off of the Indie Rock Café website. Every time they post a song or mix to the website it is posted as a podcast. This is both awesome and kind of a drag at the same time. It is cool in that they are posting some really great songs onto their website and it is really convenient to be able to access these through the podcast. What is not cool though, is that these podcasts tend to be one song long. I’d much prefer if they would take all the posts from one week (or two weeks or every month) and put them up in a big group as a podcast. That way I don’t have to load a new podcast every 3 minutes. I feel like the purpose of listening to these podcasts is to check out new music, and it is a little annoying to not be able to just play one big playlist.
The Indie Rock Café website is a very nice website. Since the podcast was an afterthought to the website, the website is much more expansive and contains tons of information about indie rock bands and what they are doing. They keep track of new up and coming bands, new releases, new videos and just general information about a plethora of indie rock bands. My one complaint here is there is no easy link that relates directly to the podcast. Since the podcast has no host, and the name of the band is not in the title of the podcast, it’s hard to figure out who you’re listening to. I would like to see a link that is easily accessible on this website that correlates with what the podcast is playing. I feel the addition of this link plus making longer podcasts would really bring this podcast to the next level. As it stands Indie Rock Café is a good podcast, but with a few tweaks, it could be great!
