| 11 | VideoVideo - Insider's Look #35 Park Ranger Patrick Gamman talks with Artist-in-Residence Kim Henkel about her sculptures and pinho | My sculpture is a result of a physical process of spontaneous digging and marking in clay with my hands, a blind act of faith. As I work, I create the negative void that is ever present in this life full of ambiguity. Removing my hands, I fill the dark, cold space with materials. Then painstakingly peel away the soft layers of clay on the outside until the solid form is exposed -- like an excavation. The result is an expressive object like a fossil manifestation of the complexity of my desires, fears and expectations. The layers of clay are recycled over and over again as a foundation for more digging and building more sculpture. When my will tries to control the negative space, the outcome takes the form of fierce substances. But when I push with spontaneous marks of bold confidence, a wonderful evolution of probity and consciousness appears. The pinhole photographs are a documentation of the moment of discovering the sculptures in the Arizona landscape. - Kim Henkel | 3/29/10 | Free | View In iTunes |

Audio - Insider's Look #6 - Recycling Program at the Grand Canyon Village Post Office | On June 29th 2009, Grand Canyon resident, Rosie McGee, expressed concern with the lack of recycling at the Grand Canyon National Park Post Office and suggested several reasons why a recycling program would benefit the USPS and the park's environment. Diane Hanna, an Environmental Compliance/Risk Mitigation Specialist for the USPS got the Service to jump into action deploying recycling containers directly to the Grand Canyon Post Office. In order to promote the new recycling initiative at the Grand Canyon Post Office, the Postmaster Kent Boyack placed Notice 180 postcards in all active P.O. Boxes alerting users to the presence of the new recycle bins and encouraging Post Office box holders to place unwanted mail in the recycle bin once it has been read. The successful outcome was truly a team effort between federal agencies. Because the post office is located within National Park boundaries, a relationship between the USPS and National Park Service (NPS) has developed. Ken Guillory, Sanitation Operations Supervisor, and Deirdre Hanners, Environmental Protection Specialist, from the NPS were instrumental in generating press for the DLM mail recycling success story at the Grand Canyon. | 9/3/09 | Free | View In iTunes |

I think Rangers do a good job!
Its good to see that iTunes allows for feedback on the products offered but it’s a poor show to make a criticism without sharing ideas on how the content could be enhanced. I feel sure that thoughtful ideas are always welcome.
I’ve seen Rangers risk their own lives to search & rescue a park visitor, which deserves an Atta boy (girl)!

Don't make the podcasts so formulaic and unimaginative.
How's that?
