CleanFixed Audio: iPod, iPhone, iPad, iCloud, ** iROBOT ** | All the iProducts Apple has been creating could be much more than just selling great products. It might be directing us into a brave new world. My intuition leads me to believe that all those, and specially Appleâ??s iCloud and Siri might become the foundation of the new Robotics revolution. Listening to Siri, I could not stop myself from reflecting on the sounds of Robots from Sci-Fi movies and books such as â??I, Robotâ??, â??Odyssey 2001â?? and others, and the associations those stories has brought about. Is this reality designed by Apple, or just an accidental outcome? What are the clear signs for this reality? What are the 3 fundamental benefits Apple was always focused on? What has been the primary driver for the instant adoption of Apple's products? What is Apple's Invisible Agenda? All the answers are here in Full Video, Audio/Podcast and Text versions: http://itprofessional-mastermind.com/blog/innovation/apple-irobot/ Join this imaginary ride into the future in the next episode of the IT Professionals Reporting from the Trenches Podcast (to be delivered soon to your inbox). CleanEpisode 1 - Server Consolidation and The Cloud - It Is All About The People | This is the first episode of our â??IT Professional Report From the Trenchesâ?? Podcast available here: http://budurl.com/TheITProPodcast The first subject at hand is something many of us IT Professionals, are dealing every day. It is all about The Cloud, Server Consolidation, Virtualization, this kind of stuff. Here is whatâ??s happening in consolidation and cloud-based projects: usually people tend to focus on the technology and hardware and that's pretty much natural. It is especially true for our IT professionals, because this is what we do best, and thatâ??s what people expect us to do. So you tend to focus on servers, which kind of hardware youâ??d want to buy, electricity and cooling, infrastructure issues. Sometimes you need to actually run a Server Consolidation project where you merge several types of hardware, originating of several labs, computer rooms or Data Centers. So you tend to focus on subjects such as â??which Virtualization related products we want to use? Is it VMware or maybe Microsoftâ??s Hyper-V, Citrix Xen, Oracle Virtual Server. HP Virtual Machines, IBM AIX LPARs or something else?â?? You can get pretty good results in this area. But you'll probably find out, that such projects that tend to focus on the technological aspects are in danger. If you ask yourself what is reason for that risk, why you are having all those challenges, and why is the hardware becoming the less important issue in the project implementation. Let me tell you something - it's all about people. It's always about people, in every project. We as IT professionals have to bear this in mind because it's very easy for us to focus on the technology. As we are referring to Server Consolidation and The Cloud, and answering questions such as â??How Do I consolidate all my hardwareâ?? and â??How and where do I run my cloudâ?? , you will probably agree that The Cloud and Server Consolidation is all about getting you the flexibility you need to be able and share resources, to save time and money. When you want to set up Server Consolidation or run your processes within The Cloud, it's all about having the flexibility to move resources to the relevant project very quickly, and it's about sharing resources. The reason is, you don't want to buy again and again and again, the hardware for each group alone. You want to be able to share and distribute resources at will. All this leads to saving time and money. But then, how this all these relate to people? Firstly we are talking about the merging of teams needs. Maybe â??mergeâ?? is not the best word to describe it, but basically you may have a team running project A and another team running project B and productivity and you don't actually merge the teams from HR perspective. It is more about practically having both teams needs mapped. You can then make sure that when you relate to Server Consolidation, you will not get each team buying a different kind of hardware or one that integrates differently. Does this ring a bell to you? You need IT teams of each project that you want to consolidate into one infrastructure, align on the same page. Server Consolidation and using The Cloud also means that you need to have unified IT procedures. If somebody has a procedure on how to clone a virtual machine, or how to use templates, or whether one should use templates, or when and how should one use Virtual Machine Snapshots, How many Snapshots and how much disk space should be allocated for snapshots. So we're talking about unifying the procedures for maintaining the IT infrastructure. You may think by now â??well I'd expect a company that has a central IT department to be able and deploy its procedures across the boardâ??. In theory, it's practically so, and it may be so in most of the cases. But in many cases there are deviations that are seldom approved by the central IT department. Do you recall such cases you had as well? Read part 2 of "Episode 1 - Server Consolidati | 4/7/11 | Free | View In iTunes |
