Podcast Advent – Looking Back and Forward | Podcast Advent Days 23 & 24 Itâs the Christmas season and with that comes the season of Advent. Advent is a time of year when we look forward to Christmas and reflect upon the gift of Christâs birth. This is usually marked off by lighting candles (weekly or daily) and calendars full of chocolate. It usually also includes some kind of devotional. Iâm not going to provide a devotional but what I do plan to offer this month may be of interest to you. This advent I thought I would provide a virtual calendar of podcasts that may interest you. These are all podcasts that I listen to currently and/or highly recommend that you listen to if your interests align with the hosts. A look back at my podcasting this year and a look ahead to 2012. If youâd like to leave feedback about this or any other episode you can call and leave a voice mail by calling 518-290-0228, send email to geek@jesusgeek.info, or leave a comment on the blog. These are all podcasts that I listen to currently and/or highly recommend that you listen to if your interests align with the hosts. You may notice there is a lack of video podcasts on my list.  That's because I do nearly all of my podcast listening in my car.  However, I don make sure to catch Smarter Every Day (http://www.youtube.com/user/destinws2?ob=video-mustangbase) when it's released.  OK, it's not really a  podcast but I can bend the rules a little. Destin's 5-10 minutes videos that show up on his channel every week are YouTube gold.  Destin's videos cover various scientific and real-life topics that are sure to stimulate your brain.  Some of the slow-motion footage he's captured is fantastic. Check out Smarter Every Day for science-y goodness that's sure to tickle your brain. The Once Upon A Time Fan Podcast (http://new.roneyzone.com/once-upon-a-time-podcast/) hosted by Jeff and Colleen Roney is a mus-listen if you're a fan of the television show.  Each week, Jeff and Colleen discuss the current episode and provide insight into each episode with their theories about the show. This is another new podcast in my playlist.  I listened to an episode and it actually got me interested in watching the show.  Jeff and Colleen don't force their personalities through the show.  They're genuine and entertaining at the same time. If you're hooked on Once Upon A Time, you don't want to miss Jeff and Colleen's Once Upon A Time Fan Podcast. These are all podcasts that I listen to currently and/or highly recommend that you listen to if your interests align with the hosts. The Sci-Fi Christian is a fairly new podcast in my rotation but it's one I make sure not to miss when it's released.  Hosted by Matt Anderson and Ben De Bono, The Sci-Fi Christian takes a look at various sci-fi topics from a Christian perspective. Each week Matt and Ben cover sci-fi news, quote Stan Lee, and cover topics like dreams, time travel, The Lord of the Rings.  While the podcast normally lasts about 90 to 120 minutes, a recent format change will help it fit into your schedule a much easier. Listen to Matt and Ben every week on The Sci-Fi Christian.  Who knows, you might even here me on the podcast every once in a while too. These are all podcasts that I listen to currently and/or highly recommend that you listen to if your interests align with the hosts. PID Radio (http://pidradio.com), hosted by Derek and Sharon Gilbert, peers into the dark side of the news and tries to bring to light some of the news that "big media" outlets seem to conveniently ignore.  Derek's experience as an afternoon-drive radio host comes through as he and Sharon navigate through the news to try and undercover the news behind the news. Conspiracy theories, numerology, and global economic domination abound throughout their look behind the white-washed veil of big media.  Derek and Sharon bring the light of Christ to bear on stories that most news organizations wouldn't touch with a 39-1/2 foot pole.  Put on your tinfoil hat and listen to PID Radio today. When most people think about homeschooling they have a stereo-typical picture in their mind of what a homeschooling father looks like.  Well, Gerald McKoy of The Homeschooling Buzz (http://www.homeschoolnetcast.com/home/category/the-homeschooling-buzz/) shatters all of those images and provides an entertaining and informative podcast about homeschooling. Dave and Jen discuss the humorous events in their lives from trips to Costco  to Dave's seemingly infinite number of odd jobs he does on the weekends.  Some fan-favorite segments in their podcast  include the music lyric game and tech talk with Jen. These are all podcasts that I listen to currently and/or highly recommend that you listen to if your interests align with the hosts. Every once in a while there's a podcast that comes along that makes you laugh so hard you spray coffee out of your nose.  It's Just Us (http://www.itsjustuscast.com/) is one of those podcasts.  It's a comedy/real life/couple-cast hosted by Robert and Chelsea Herrington that often leaves me in stitches. Fortunately I have a good plastic surgeon and there are no scars from listening to Robert and Chelsea talk about what's going on in their lives from work to recitals to what they had for lunch.  Robert's rants are sure to leave you laughing while Chelsea analyzes her husband's insecurities about self-checkouts and trips to the hardware store. You'l laugh, you'll cry, you'll have tears running down your leg as you listen to It's Just Us. One week Steve Gibson and Leo Laporte cover the latest security news then  gives an in-depth description of some technology topic that is directly or tangentially related to security.  Every other week Steve responds to listener questions a with thoughtful eye to detail. This is another podcast that takes quite a time commitment not only because it clocks in around 90 minutes but because there is just so much information to digest.  Steve's down-to-earth explanations of technical topics will keep you coming back for more of Security Now every week. Podcast Advent – Spirit Blade Underground | (http://jesusgeek.info/wp-content/uploads/spiritblade-150x150.jpg) Podcast Advent Day 8 Itâs the Christmas season and with that comes the season of Advent. Science fiction is a genre of entertainment that many Christians either don't understand of feel there are too many humanistic themes to be of any value.  Paeter Frandsen of The Spirit Blade Underground (http://paeter.libsyn.com/), however, finds ways to tie in a Christian worldview with his love of science fiction and fantasy. Each week, Paeter takes 30-45 minutes to cover science fiction news, review movies and comic books, and provide a devotional that appeals to fans of science fiction.  In addition to all of this, the podcast is a medium to keep listeners updated on Paeter's fantastic Spirit Blade audio drama series. If you're a fan of science fiction movies, books, and comic books be sure to check out The Spirit Blade Underground.  Oh yeah, don't forget to buy his audio drama either.  It's well-produced and worth every penny.  Check it out today! Podcast Advent – The Audacity to Podcast | (http://jesusgeek.info/wp-content/uploads/audacity-to-podcast-150x150.jpg) Podcast Advent Day 7 Itâs the Christmas season and with that comes the season of Advent. Advent is a time of year when we look forward to Christmas and reflect upon the gift of Christâs birth. This is usually marked off by lighting candles (weekly or daily) and calendars full of chocolate. It usually also includes some kind of devotional. These are all podcasts that I listen to currently and/or highly recommend that you listen to if your interests align with the hosts. If you've been podcasting for any length of time you're probably already aware of Audacity: the free and open source audio editing software.  Many podcasters have used the software at one time or another only to give it up for Adobe Audition or GarageBand.  The Audacity to Podcast (http://theaudacitytopodcast.com), hosted by Daniel J. Lewis, pulls back the curtain on Audacity and shows you how to podcast using this free software. In addition to providing the listener with great information on producing podcasts with Audacity, Daniel also offers detailed tips on podcasting in general from setting up your website to choosing the hardware and software for your hobby. Daniel also has other great podcasts available at the Noodle.mx (http://noodle.mx) network that are sure to interest you.  Check out The Audacity to Podcast and all the other great podcasts that Daniel has to offer today. Podcast Advent – Windows Weekly | (http://jesusgeek.info/wp-content/uploads/windows-weekly-150x150.jpg) Podcast Advent Day 6 Itâs the Christmas season and with that comes the season of Advent. These are all podcasts that I listen to currently and/or highly recommend that you listen to if your intrests align with the hosts. When it comes to podcasting, the 800-lb. gorilla in the room is Leo Laporte's TWiT network and with nearly 30 podcasts in the TWiT empire a few were bound to make my list.  Windows Weekly (http://twit.tv/show/windows-weekly) is one of them. Leo along with Paul Thurrott and Mary Jo Foley cover a wide range of Windows related news including the upcoming Windows 8 release, X-Box, and Windows Phone 7.  You can expect lively conversation and responsible reporting when it comes to those pesky Microsoft rumors. Windows Weekly clocks in around 90 minutes an episode so I like to save it for my commutes.  Leo hosts the show with enthusiasm while Paul and Mary Jo bring insightful commentary on all things Microsoft.  Check out Windows Weekly today. Podcast Advent – Mac OS Ken | (http://jesusgeek.info/wp-content/uploads/mac-os-ken-150x150.jpg) Podcast Advent Day 5 Itâs the Christmas season and with that comes the season of Advent. Advent is a time of year when we look forward to Christmas and reflect upon the gift of Christâs birth. This is usually marked off by lighting candles (weekly or daily) and calendars full of chocolate. It usually also includes some kind of devotional. These are all podcasts that I listen to currently and/or highly recommend that you listen to if your intrests align with the hosts. Continuing on with the calendar I thought I'd pull in an unexpected podcast: Mac OS Ken (http://macosken.com).  I wouldn't say that I'm an Apple enthusiast.  I do think that people should use whatever hardware and software they're most comfortable with.  Even if I were a staunch Microsoft supporter it can be argued that Apple has been leading with innovations in the computer industry for at least a decade and when I want news about that innovation Mac OS Ken is the podcast I recommend. Ken Ray's experience in radio comes through in spades in this podcast.  His wit, cynicism, and (dare I say it?) charm, oozes through every story he covers.  Mac OS Ken cover Apple news in a way that is both informative and entertaining.  If you're looking for "just the facts, ma'am" you'd better look somewhere else because this podcast comes at you with a unique style sure to please. Ken covers a variety of Apple news that's sure to keep you wanting more.  Check out Mac OS Ken today. Podcast Advent – Queue Hog | (http://jesusgeek.info/wp-content/uploads/queue-hog-150x150.jpg) Podcast Advent Day 4 Itâs the Christmas season and with that comes the season of Advent. These are all podcasts that I listen to currently and/or highly recommend that you listen to if your intrests align with the hosts. You might be thinking that Johnny is all work and no play considering the list of podcasts to make the list so far.  Far from it, I think you need a healthy dose of play in your life.  One way I play is by watching Netflix and a great way to hear about shows to watch is by listening to Queue Hog (http://queuehog.com). Queue Hog is a weekly podcast that reviews movies and TV programs available on Netflix.  James Kennison hosts John Steinklauber, Erik Fisher, and Christopher Titchnall in a round-table discussion about various shows they've watched in the past week.  The podcast is one hour of amusing commentary that is sure to bring a smile to your face.  I frequently find myself laughing out loud at the comments they make about the shows they've watched. Each week the groups watched the first 10 minutes of one TV program and the first two episodes of another.  The friendly banter among the participants is a highlight but the honest opinions about each program will certainly help you decide what you might want to consider adding to your Netflix queue. Podcast Advent – The Linchpin Podcast | (http://jesusgeek.info/wp-content/uploads/linchpin-150x150.jpg)Podcast Advent Day 3 Itâs the Christmas season and with that comes the season of Advent. These are all podcasts that I listen to currently and/or highly recommend that you listen to if your intrests align with the hosts. Seth Godin's book, Linchpin (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/1591844096/ref=as_li_ss_tl?ie=UTF8&tag=jesgee-20&linkCode=as2&camp=1789&creative=390957&creativeASIN=1591844096)(http://www.assoc-amazon.com/e/ir?t=jesgee-20&l=as2&o=1&a=1591844096), sparked a revolution among cubicle dwellers.  Andy Traub's Linchpin Podcast (http://www.takepermission.com/category/linchpin-podcast/) seeks out those who've been influenced by Godin's book and delves deep into their psyche to find out what makes them Linchpins. OK, maybe that's a little dramatic but if you do want to hear great interviews with people like Tom Ziglar and Dan Miller then look no further.  Andy's interviews are thoughtful and precise.  He packs a lot of great material in each and every episode.  Unlike the last two podcasts mentioned you can expect to spend at least an hour listening to the thoughts of successful people who've taken the principles in Linchpin and applied them to business and life. Andy has other great podcasts that you may want to explore as part of his Take Permission Media Network (http://www.takepermission.com/) check them out and see if there's something there that interests you.  If business-oriented podcasts aren't your cup of tea, maybe you want to learn to be a better husband or need some tips on natural child birth.  That's all for today, tune in tomorrow for another great podcast. Podcast Advent – Get-It-Done Guy’s Quick and Dirty Tips To Work Less and Do More | (http://jesusgeek.info/wp-content/uploads/get-it-done-guy-150x150.jpg)Podcast Advent Day 2 Itâs the Christmas season and with that comes the season of Advent. These are all podcasts that I listen to currently and/or highly recommend that you listen to if your intrests align with the hosts. For the second day I thought I would recommend Get-It-Done Guy's Quick and Dirty Tips to Work Less and Do More (http://itunes.apple.com/us/podcast/get-it-done-guys-quick-dirty/id268557178).  The holiday season can be very busy and hectic.  The hustle and bustle of the holiday season often raises stress levels and it seems like you can't get every thing done.  That's where Stever Robbins and his quick and dirty tips will help you. Just like the last podcast I mentioned, this one is short, usually under 10 minutes, so it will fit into your hectic holiday schedule easily.  Stever gives helpful, practical tips for getting things done efficiently and with purpose. The Get-It-Done Guy Podcast will get you on the path to making those tough decisions like, "How do I decide what to wear?" and, "Do you really need 42 white towels in your bathroom?" Check it out today to starting learning how to become a well-oiled, holiday shopping machine! OK, maybe not right away but with Stever's tips you should be well-prepared for next year. Podcast Advent – 365 Days of Astronomy | (http://jesusgeek.info/wp-content/uploads/365-days-astro-150x150.jpg)Podcast Advent Day 1 It's the Christmas season and with that comes the season of Advent. Advent is a time of year when we look forward to Christmas and reflect upon the gift of Christ's birth. These are all podcasts that I listen to currently and/or highly recommend that you listen to if your intrests align with the hosts. The 365 Days of Astronomy (http://365daysofastronomy.org/) podcast will start things off. Since it was a star that signaled the birth of our King I thought it appropriate to start by looking to the skies. There are three things I like about this podcast: it's short (about 10 minutes), it's hosted by a different person every day, and it's about space. The podcast was originally started in 2009 to celebrate the International Year of Astronomy and has contined to this day. Each day a different person from around the world shares a little bit of astronomy knowledge. I especially enjoy hearing from astronomers in the Southern hemisphere. They describe things that we can see in our sky. Many different astronomical topics are covered every day from naked-eye observations to astronomer biographies. You're sure to find something that will pique your interest. Give it a listen today. Farewell Steve Jobs | By now many of you have heard of the news that Steve Jobs died yesterday due to complications from his long battle with pancreatic cancer. The world has lost an innovator, a thinker, a visionary, and one of the most influential contributors to the modern world. I don't know why I'm compelled to write these words. I have no emotional attachment to Steve but for some reason I have a sense of loss. Maybe it's because the world has lost a man who chose to challenge the status quo. His leadership at Apple was sometimes described as harsh but it got things done and pushed the PC industry forward kicking and screaming at times. Whether you use a Windows PC, Linux or some other handheld device that's come out in the last 5 years it was influenced by Apple. It was influenced by the innovation and creative brilliance that Steve Jobs brought to a stuffy, myopic, and stagnant industry that was screaming for change. Steve Jobs at the helm of Apple brought that change. Many people credit Steve Jobs for all of the innovation and creative genius that has emerged from Apple but I look at a man who assembled individuals who were all very good at what they do and formed a team that brought the world some of the most beautiful and bold pieces of technology to date. Steve's vision and ability to pick the right people for the job made Apple successful. Apple CEO Tim Cook shared these words (http://www.businesswire.com/news/home/20111005006889/en) with Apple employees yesterday: I have some very sad news to share with all of you. Steve passed away earlier today. Apple has lost a visionary and creative genius, and the world has lost an amazing human being. Those of us who have been fortunate enough to know and work with Steve have lost a dear friend and an inspiring mentor. Steve leaves behind a company that only he could have built, and his spirit will forever be the foundation of Apple. We are planning a celebration of Steveâs extraordinary life for Apple employees that will take place soon. If you would like to share your thoughts, memories and condolences in the interim, you can simply email rememberingsteve@apple.com. No words can adequately express our sadness at Steveâs death or our gratitude for the opportunity to work with him. We will honor his memory by dedicating ourselves to continuing the work he loved so much. Let me repeat something, "We are planning a celebration of Steveâs extraordinary life..." I hope that one day someone will send a notice to my friends and family stating the same thing about me. I want my life to be celebrated when I die. I want to know that I made a mark on the universe, no matter how microscopic it may seem. That may seem like an ego trip but I don't think it is. As a Christian I'm called to change people's lives by telling them about the Good News of Jesus Christ. Hopefully, I've made a mark on someone's life. Hopefully, one day my extraordinary life will be celebrated too. Not because I made millions or changed the world but because I changed one person's world. Steve Jobs was 56 when he died. Some say it was too soon. Others say it was inevitable. Others, to my disgust, even used the news of his passing to thump their political pulpit. Steve Jobs touched all of our lives whether we realize it or not. He showed us all how to "think differently". | 10/6/11 | Free | View In iTunes |

GetGlue For Podcasters | (http://jesusgeek.info/wp-content/uploads/getglue_sticker-150x150.jpg)If you're a frequent listener to my podcast and you've subscribed to the big feed you've probably noticed a new podcast that has popped up: The Stickercast (http://thestickercast.com). The Stickercast is a podcast all about GetGlue (http://getglue.com) which is a social media âservice that helps you find your next favorite movie, book, music album or other every day thing. GetGlue shows you things that youâll like based on your personal tastes, what your friends like, and whatâs most popular on GetGlueâ and podcasters should be using it to grow their audience. I've created a series of articles about GetGlue (http://jesusgeek.info/gg) which includes videos that explain how a podcaster can add their podcast to GetGlue and then include check-in widgets on Facebook and various blogging platforms like Wordpress and Blogger. GetGlue exposes your podcast to millions of people on a daily basis and it's a fantastic tool in the podcaster's social networking toolbox.  Here's 4 reasons why GetGlue should be a part of every podcasters social networking strategy. 1. GetGlue exposes your podcast to millions of people who like to share their interests with others. 2. GetGlue integrates with other social networking platforms like Facebook, Twitter, and Foursquare. 3. GetGlue allows you to share your podcast with a highly targeted audience. 4. GetGlue gives your listeners a way to share their love of your podcast. If you haven't already, make sure your podcast is listed with GetGlue and add check-in widgets to your website and Facebook page.  This makes it easy for your listeners to share your podcast with their followers. Do you think GetGlue is a great tool for podcasters?  Let me know! How I Podcast | No interview this week because I had to cancel my scheduled interview for this podcast. Instead, I decided I would share the process I use to record podcasts. This is not a step-by-step, in-depth lesson on podcasting but a general overview of how I do it. This weekâs podcast is sponsored by Homeschooling Buzz (http://homeschoolnetcast.com/) â find out whatâs buzzing in homeschooling. For podcast where I'm the only person speaking the process goes like this: * I record my audio into my Zoom H2 Digital Recorder (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000VBH2IG/ref=as_li_ss_tl?ie=UTF8&tag=jesgee-20&linkCode=as2&camp=1789&creative=390957&creativeASIN=B000VBH2IG)(http://www.assoc-amazon.com/e/ir?t=&l=as2&o=1&a=B000VBH2IG) * I process the audio through The Levelator (http://www.conversationsnetwork.org/levelator) * I use Garageband or Audacity (http://audacity.sourceforge.net/) (usually Garageband) to add intro and outro music and any sound effects * I export the file to iTunes and tag it * Finally, I upload the file to my server and create the blog post For podcasts where I interview people I do the following: * I hook up my Zoom H2 Digital Recorder (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000VBH2IG/ref=as_li_ss_tl?ie=UTF8&tag=jesgee-20&linkCode=as2&camp=1789&creative=390957&creativeASIN=B000VBH2IG)(http://www.assoc-amazon.com/e/ir?t=&l=as2&o=1&a=B000VBH2IG) to my PC * I record the Skype session using Pamela (http://www.pamela.biz/475.html) with my voice in one channel and my interviewee in the other * I run the file through The Levelator (http://www.conversationsnetwork.org/levelator) * Import the WAV file to Audacity (http://audacity.sourceforge.net/) and split the single stereo track into two mono tracks. * Export the edited file to another WAV file * I use Garageband or Audacity (http://audacity.sourceforge.net/) (usually Garageband) to add intro and outro music and any sound effects * I export the file to iTunes and tag it * Finally, I upload the file to my server and create the blog post Again, I didn't intend for this to be a detailed podcast about my process. Perhaps in the future I'll break it down a little more and share the details of each step. If youâd like to leave feedback about this or any other episode you can call and leave a voice mail by calling 518-290-0228, send email to geek [at] jesusgeek [dot] info, or leave a comment on the blog. Since Justin is such an eclectic person I've pinched his "About" information from his website, http://thespaceturtle.com (http://thespaceturtle.com): [Justin] is a writer and an entertainer. Aside from writing science fiction, fantasy, horror and humor, he reads stories and plays music live in Second Life (http://www.secondlife.com/). He is married and has one daughter and one son. He and his family live in the Great Northwest. He enjoys gaming of all types, computer, console, board/card, and role playing games. He went that-a-way! | Hey everyone, I just want to provide you with a quick heads-up. Tomorrow I will redirect this feed to The Wired Homeschool's (http://thewriedhomeschool.com) RSS feed. Now, I wish I could just remove the Jesus Geek podcast from iTunes but I can't so I've decided to keep the content flowing for now. At the end of the year, this feed will self-destruct. So, if you want to continue to subscribe via this feed, that's fine but at the end of the year you suddenly won't receive any more episodes of The Wired Homeschool (http://thewriedhomeschool.com). To prevent that from happening, you'll want to click on the links below to subscribe directly to The Wired Homeschool's (http://thewiredhomeschool.com) RSS feed. Interview with Roland Mann Part 2 | (http://jesusgeek.info/wp-content/uploads/rmann.jpg)Today on Jesus Geek I have part 2 of an interview I did with Roland Mann. Roland used to be Managing Editor of the Malibu Comics division at Marvel. Here's a little more information about Roland from his website (http://rolandmann.me): A true Southern boy, I was born in Memphis, Tennessee and raised in Mississippi. I spent my high school growing up years in Brandon, Miss., where I graduated from Northwest Rankin. I attended Hinds Jr. College and then transferred to the University of Southern Mississippi where I earned my B.S. in English/Creative Writing. I broke into comics in 1989 as a writer of indy comics, where I wrote such titles as Cat & Mouse (http://rolandmann.files.wordpress.com/2008/04/cm2.gif), Miss Fury (http://rolandmann.files.wordpress.com/2008/04/mf1.gif), Rocket Ranger (http://rolandmann.files.wordpress.com/2008/04/rr1.jpg), Demonâs Tails (http://rolandmann.files.wordpress.com/2008/04/dt1.gif), and others⦠I started freelance editing in â90 when I saw there was a wealth of untapped talent in the South Mississippi region, that, and to help talented friends get work. Shortly after, I was hired as an editor with Malibu Comics located in California.I edited the Genesis line of comics ( Protectors, Dinos for Hire, Ex-Mutants, etc). Then Malibu bought Image and shortly wanted a âhigh profileâ superhero universe to replace Image once theyâd gone. So, Ultraverse was created and the Genesis line was cancelled. For UV, I editedSludge, Night Man, Strangers, Prototype, Rune and others. When Marvel later bought Malibu, I was made Managing Editor of the Malibu Division. A year later, Marvel canned the entire Malibu division. I moved back to the South, earned my M.A. in English from the University of North Alabama and started teaching English at both the University of North Alabama and Northwest Shoals Community College. I taught until 2005, and then an opportunity came up to try something differentâselling collegiate furniture. It was a disaster. After that, I became the editor of a weekly newspaper in Northeast Arkansas. The opportunity came to move to the small town where my family had been for 150+ years and so I took it. I did that for a year and decided I wanted to return to the classroom. Now, I live with my family in Oxford, Miss., am in the MFA program at Spalding University and am writing and editing and mentoring and speaking! 40 Day Social Media Fast | (http://jesusgeek.info/wp-content/uploads/Photo-3-150x150.jpg)On April 24th, 2010 I will be embarking on a 40 day social media fast.So what will this entail? Here's a run-down: * No Twitter * No Facebook * No recording podcasts (including Compassion365) * No commenting blog posts * No calling podcast voice mail * No forums * Limited email Why, exactly am I doing this?I feel like there's something missing in my life. Social media is filling that void and I don't like the fruit being produced. Also, I need a personal revival. This is a way for me to dedicate more time prayer and devotions. I will be journaling this fastAt the end I hope to provide 40 daily audio updates. At the end of each day I will record a brief audio journal entry. It will not be available until the 40 days are over. As much as I would like to share the experience online, I fear that doing it during the fast would tempt me to fall back into my regular routine. What about Compassion365?I really feel like God is calling me to do this now and not in another 200 or so days. I've emailed the CNMG and asked someone to step up and coordinate the podcasts for the next 40 days. This is the hardest thing for me. My pride is scratching at the back of my brain telling me that I cannot stop. Unfortunately, for 40 days I cannot participate. In the end I hope this will give me a clear visionI've struggled for years with why I continue to podcast and my presence online. I need God to speak to me in a way that I haven't experienced in a long time. Hopefully in the end I will have a clear vision of what God wants me to do in the social media space and purposefully re-engage in a way that will be more balanced and profitable to the kingdom of God. See you on the other side! I played promos for On the Edge of Darkness (http://ontheedgeofdarkness.com) and No Show (http://noshow.net). Opportunity for Writers – The Least of These | Press Release =========================================== Spring Benefit Book: The Least of These Critical Press Media is committed to publishing two books annually for the purpose of raising money and awareness for selected charities. This presents an ideal opportunity for amateur writers, writing enthusiasts, and students to get professional critical feedback on their writing and possibly even publish a story! No submission will be turned away unread! Matthew 25:34-40 (NIV) 34â³Then the King will say to those on his right, âCome, you who are blessed by my Father; take your inheritance, the kingdom prepared for you since the creation of the world. 35For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, 36I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.â 37â³Then the righteous will answer him, âLord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink? 38When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you? 39When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?â 40â³The King will reply, âI tell you the truth, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me.â Critical Press Mediaâs first Benefit project for 2010 will be part of Compassion 365, the year-long campaign by the Christian New Media Group to raise awareness and funds for Compassion International. We are looking for original fiction by new and upcoming authors with a passion for emotional storytelling, thought-provoking and well- reasoned essays where critical reasoning is brought to bear on the topic, and riveting news articles documenting the impact of suffering on humanity and the efforts of individuals and relief organizations. Manuscripts suitable for the project will be: * 200-10,000 words in length * belong to any genre or style * use an act of compassion as a key element of the manuscript What is an act of compassion? âCompassion International exists as a Christian child advocacy ministry that releases children from spiritual, economic, social and physical poverty and enables them to become responsible, fulfilled Christian adults.â The passage in Matthew defines six states of being wherein an act of compassion performed as ministry to another is actually service rendered to the Lord: hunger, thirst, alienation, vulnerability, sickness, and imprisonment. A manuscript ideally suited to this project will treat one of these conditions as a central element or theme, and demonstrates the effects of these conditions both on the afflicted and their deliverer. Donât second-guess your story, send it in and let us read it! Deadline for manuscript submission is June 1, 2010. No new manuscript submissions will be accepted after June 1. Manuscripts should be submitted in the body of an email, or as an email attachment in HTML, DOC, RTF, or ODT format to winstonc@criticalpressmedia.com with the words âmanuscript submissionâ in the subject line. Please include a brief synopsis of your submission and a few lines about you personally in the body of the email. Remember, weâre looking for information, not ad copy. All submissions will be read by the editorial staff at Critical Press Media, and authors will receive a detailed response about the manuscriptâs strengths, weaknesses, and general marketability. If the manuscript is suitable for the project, editors will continue to work with the author until the project is complete. All authors published in the final project will receive a copy of the final book in print and e-book formats. Critical Press Media is not associated with Compassion International, but we desire the Benefit Book to reflect the core values of that organization. | 3/23/10 | Free | View In iTunes |

Apple iPad reactions | (http://jesusgeek.info/wp-content/uploads/ipad-keyboard-150x150.png)Apple's iPad is certainly a game-changer in the arena of portable computing. Though I'm impressed with their first release of the device, there are some essential features missing from it like USB support, handwriting recognition, and video output (HDMI or or DVI). I discuss this and more in this special episode of Jesus Geek. Sponsor: Try GotoAssist Express free for 30 days! 2010 Rant | (http://jesusgeek.info/wp-content/uploads/coveyes.png)I rant about the 17+ rating of the Covenant Eyes and X3Watch iPhone apps. Also, I've started a few new podcasts. Check out http://socialgivingpodcast.com (http://socialgivingpodcast.com) and http://compassion365.com (http://compassion365.com) for details and to subscribe. My deepest and heartfelt condolences go out to Tee Morris and his family. Tee's wife, Natalie died yesterday. My prayer is that you will find peace and comfort in Christ Jesus. Interview with Brad and Faith McFadden | (http://jesusgeek.info/wp-content/uploads/watercause-square-125px.png)I interviewed Brad and Faith McFadden of the Two Blind Squirrels (http://twoblindsquirrels.com) podcast about their participation in the Podcasting For Water cause (http://www.facebook.com/pages/Jesus-Geek-Podcast/174139899553), specifically, their 100 days of podcasting they did to benefit the cause. This was to originally air on the 31st of December in 2009 but due to some technical issues it wasn't released until recently. This is the same episode they released in their feed on the 2nd of January but I wanted to give it a little more exposure. | 1/4/10 | Free | View In iTunes |
