Podcast Description
Lab Rats was one of the very first video podcasts on the Internet, launched in October 2005 by technology journalists Sean Carruthers and Andy Walker. Originally launched as an offshoot of the work Sean and Andy were doing for G4TechTV Canada's "Call For Help," the long running show has evolved to become a clear and understandable exploration of technology, making it easy to grasp for the beginner and expert alike.

For newbies only
Just what we don't need: another podcast that makes a lame attempt at explaining technology using cute analogies. The episode files are huge (100+ MB) and take forever to download even on a broadband connection, the presentation is flat (leave the comedy to comedians), and, worst of all: commercials. A thimbleful of knowledge in a ten-gallon bucket. Use Wikipedia instead.
Pretty good
You have to remember that these guys are dealing with a wide range of viewers. As a former teacher myself, I understand the concept of teaching to the lower end of the class while also throwing in a few higher end details through the course of a lesson. That's what Sean and Andy seem to try to do. If they went over the top with techno-babble, people would be complaining that they should make things easier to understand. The humor is so-so, but it's all in good fun and you can tell these two have a solid working relationship. Overall, I'd give this show a solid B+. Download a couple of episodes, try it out, and see what you think. I'm hardly a tech newbie, but I've learned a few things from the dozens of episodes I've watched.
