The weekly syndicated radio show "The Latin Alternative" airs regularly in more than ten markets nationwide, but fans hoping to get their fix of the best new Latin rock, funk, hip-hop and electronic music need not wait for terrestrial radio broadcasts: "The Latin Alternative" is now available for streaming podcast as well. Among the artists featured on the show are Manu Chao, Los Fabulosos Cadillacs, Cafe Tacuba, Kinky, Julieta Venegas and Ozomatli.

the best (and only?) Latin Alternative music show on the radio
I've been a fan of "The Latin Alternative" for some time and frequently listened to the live-streamed edition from WEXT in Albany. It's great to see the show finally available as a podcast on iTunes. You really couldn't ask for better co-hosts and authorities on the Latin-alt genre than Ernesto Lechner and Josh Norek (Lechner wrote the book 'Rock en Espanol' while Norek co-founded the Latin Alternative Music Conference and fronts the band Hip Hop Hoodíos). Probably my favorite aspect of the show is how well the program explains the significance of acts like Manu Chao, Julieta Venegas and Cafe Tacuba to an English-speaking audience. As a Latina whose first language is English, I find Latin rock, funk and electronic music genuinely innovative; "The Latin Alternative" gives the music proper context to a wider audience that may not understand Spanish. If you're someone looking for musical kicks and adventures, I assure you that you'll dig this show.

I am new to the Latin music scene but am still amazed by how good the array of music is on this podcast. Great both for broadening my knowledge of the language (also a new Spanish student) but each podcast is chock full of jams in it's own right. Keep up the good work guys and issue another podcast soon!!!

Ahhhhh I LOVE this podcast. I just started listening to the show on the radio on Thursday nights in LA (on 88.5 between 9 and 10PM!). Me encantan todas las canciones que Ernesto Lechner y Josh Norek play, y ellos son super fun to listen to! They talk about the songs in English, most of the songs are sung in spanish, with some spanglish and a few english songs mixed in there. Whether you speak spanish or not, if you enjoy alternative music, definitely check this show out!! I was already a fan of latin-alternative music before i started listening to them, but I've learned about many new great artists through them! El podcast es arrechisimo!
