Artistiek gezien ging de beweging over de primaire kleuren en rechte lijnen. Mondriaan werd in 1872 in Amersfoort geboren. Zijn vroege werk waren veelal landschappen die meer impressionistisch waren, en we zien nog niet het abstracte in zijn werk tot ongeveer 1905. In 1905 werkte hij aan een serie schilderijen met bomen, huizen, en hun reflecties in plassen water. Tegen 1911 verhuisde Mondriaan naar Parijs waar hij in contact kwam met het werk van Pablo Picasso en andere kunstenaars in de beweging van het kubisme. Echter, in tegenstelling tot de kunstenaars die stevig in het kubisme zaten, hield Mondriaan altijd een uitgesproken spirituele inslag in zijn werk. Hij studeerde theologie in aanvulling op kunst, zo het blijkt duidelijk dat hij vaak met geestelijke zaken bezig was. De stijl van Mondriaan werd grotendeels beïnvloed en veranderde na een ontmoeting met Theo van Doesburg, die hij ontmoette tijdens een verblijf in de kunstenaarskolonie van Laren. Deze ontmoeting kwam er omdat de Eerste Wereldoorlog uitbrak, terwijl Mondriaan op bezoek was bij familie in Nederland, dus was hij gedwongen om in het land te blijven. This meeting occurred because World War I broke out while Mondrian was visiting family in the Netherlands, so he was forced to remain in the country. He returned to France at the end of the war, and that’s when his work really began to take on the recognizable grid pattern he is so well known for today. In 1938, Mondrian left Paris and moved to London, relocating again two years later to New York after his homeland of the Netherlands fell under Nazi control. Zijn geboortenaam was Christian Emil Marie Küpper, maar hij beschouwde Theodorus Doesburg, eigenlijk zijn stiefvader, als zijn echte vader. Hij nam de naam van zijn stiefvader over als zijn eigen naam en voegde de "van" later toe. Vroege schilderijen van Van Doesburg zitten op de lijn van de impressionistische beweging, maar het was zijn ontmoeting met het boek Rückblicke van Wassily Kandinsky die hem op zoek liet gaan naar een meer spirituele manier om zichzelf te uiten door middel van zijn kunst. Gedurende een groot deel van zijn leven, heeft van Doesburg zichzelf ondersteund als schrijver voor een tijdschrift, en het was door dit werk dat hij schilderijen van Piet Mondriaan tegenkwam. Hij was zo ingenomen door Mondriaan's werk, dat hij hem opzocht en samen met andere kunstenaars het tijschrift De Stijl oprichtte. De Stijl-beweging, ook wel bekend als Nieuwe Beelding (neoplasticisme), was gebaseerd op het abstracte gekoppeld aan eenvoud. Rechte lijnen waren belangrijk in werken volgens De Stijl. Van Doesburg was in wezen het gezicht van de De Stijl-beweging, en hij reisde door heel Europa om het te promoten. Hij heeft zelfs een tijd in het Bauhaus gebied in Duitsland geleefd, zodat hij een gemakkelijke toegang zou hebben tot de studenten van die beroemde kunstschool. Later kwam het tot een breuk tussen van Doesburg en Mondriaan, waarschijnlijk in verband met argumenten over het gebruik van diagonalen of een gelijkaardig artistiek debat. Hun verzoening kwam vijf jaar later toen ze tegen elkaar botsten in Parijs. ----Formal English---- Theo van Doesburg Theo van Doesburg was a painter, poet, writer, and architect in the Netherlands during the late nineteenth century and early twentieth century. His birth name was Christian Emil Marie Kupper, but he considered Theodorus Doesburg, who was actually his stepfather, to be his real father. He took his stepfather’s name as his own and inserted the "van" later on. Van Doesburg’s early paintings are along the lines of the Impressionist movement, although it was his encounter with the book "Ruckblicke" by Wassily Kandinsky that led to his search for a more spiritual way to express himself through his art. Throughout much of his life, van Doesburg supported himself as a writer for a magazine, and it was through this work that he came across paintings by Piet Mondrian. He was so taken by Mondrian’s works that he sought him out and joined with other artists to found "De Stijl" magazine. The De Stijl movement, known also as neoplasticism, was based on abstraction paired with simplicity. Straight lines were important in De Stijl works. Van Doesburg was essentially the face of the De Stijl movement, and he traveled throughout Europe promoting it. He even lived in the Bauhaus area of Germany so that he would have easy access to the students of that famous school of art. Later van Doesburg split with Mondrian, possibly over arguments about the use of diagonals or some other similar artistic debate. Vermeer was niet een erg productieve schilder, en vandaag zijn er minder dan 40 schilderijen aan hem toegeschreven. De meeste van zijn schilderijen bevatten geel en korenbloem-blauw, en zijn het meest bekend om de manier waarop hij licht in zijn schilderijen gebruikte. Er zijn zeer weinig details bekend over het leven van Vermeer, en wat bekend is, komt uit openbare registers. Een historicus heeft Vermeer de bijnaam "De Sfinx van Delft" toebedeeld omdat er zo weinig bekend is over hem. Wel weten we dat hij werkte tijdens de Nederlandse Gouden Eeuw en dat hij in oktober 1632 werd gedoopt in de Hervormde Kerk in Delft. Vermeer's vader was een kunsthandelaar, en Vermeer nam diens bedrijf over na zijn dood in 1652. Een jaar later trouwde hij met een katholiek meisje met een rijke moeder, en zijn schoonmoeder oefende heel wat druk op hem uit om zich tot het katholicisme te bekeren voordat ze trouwden. Er bestaat twijfel over of hij zich wel ooit echt heeft bekeerd. Wat later kwamen ze bij zijn schoonmoeder inwonen. Vermeer en zijn vrouw hadden 14 kinderen, maar vier van hen stierven nog voordat ze gedoopt werden. Vermeer stierf in 1675 en liet zijn vrouw met aanzienlijke schulden achter nadat de kunstmarkt crashte. Na zijn dood raakte Vermeer in de vergetelheid, hoewel verscheidene Nederlandse kunstenaars door hem werden beïnvloed toen zijn werk in de jaren 1800 werd herontdekt. Salvador Dali, een van de meest bekende kunstenaars van alle tijden, werd sterk door Vermeer beïnvloed. Hij schilderde zijn eigen versie van een van Vermeer's schilderijen, De Kantwerkster en in sommige van zijn surrealistische experimenten brengt hij ook hulde aan Vermeer. Vermeer was not a very prolific painter, and today there are fewer than 40 paintings credited to him. Most of his paintings featured yellow and cornflower blue, and his is most recognized for the way he used light in his paintings. There are very few details known about Vermeer's life, and what is known comes from public records. A historian has nicknamed Vermeer "The Sphinx of Delft" because of how little is known about him. We do know that he worked during the Dutch Golden Age and that he was baptized in the Reformed Church in Delft in October of 1632. Vermeer's father was an art dealer, and Vermeer took over his business upon his death in 1652. A year later, he married a Catholic with a wealthy mother, and his mother-in-law pressured him to convert to Catholicism before they got married. There is some doubt about whether he ever actually converted. Later they ended up moving in with his mother-in-law. Vermeer and his wife had 14 children, although four of them died before they were baptized. Vermeer died in 1675 and left his wife with substantial debts after the art market crashed. Vermeer slipped into obscurity upon his death, although several Dutch artists began to be influenced by him when his work was rediscovered in the 1800s. Salvador Dali, one of the most well-known artists of all time, was greatly influenced by Vermeer. Hij was een van de eerste schilders uit het noorden van Nederland die naar Italië ging. Hij wordt daarom gezien als de man die de beweging van de Italiaanse Hoog-Renaissance in Nederland introduceerde. Over zijn leven is niet veel bekend, maar zijn lijst van verwezenlijkingen is vrij lang. Behalve een succesvol schilder, was hij ook predikant, dichter en muzikant, en heeft zelfs geliefhebberd in de archeologie. Kunsthistorici geloven dat hij begon is bij de Meester van Alkmaar. Hij werkte in zijn jonge jaren ook samen met een aantal van zijn collega-kunstenaars in Haarlem, maar reeds vroeg in de twintig begon hij door Europa te reizen. Plaatsen waar hij zeker gewerkt heeft zijn o.a. Venetië, Neurenberg, delen van Oostenrijk en Rome. Ook maakte hij een pelgrimstocht naar het Heilige Land, en stopte in Jeruzalem tijdens zijn reizen. Na zijn pelgrimstocht, ging hij terug naar Rome en ontmoette paus Adrianus VI, een Nederlander, die hem aanstelde tot hofschilder van het Vaticaan. Tijdens zijn verblijf in Italië, werd van Scorel sterk beïnvloed door Rafaël en Michelangelo. In feite werd hij de bewaker van de Belvedere binnenplaats na Raphael. De binnenplaats was een van de belangrijkste onderdelen van het Vaticaan, en kwam tot ontwikkeling tijdens de Italiaanse Hoog-Renaissance. Tijdens zijn dertiger jaren kwam Scorel terug naar Nederland, en bracht de Italiaanse Hoog-Renaissance met zich mee toen hij zich vestigde als een kunstenaarsleraar. ----Formal English---- Jan van Scorel Jan van Scorel was born in 1495 in Schoorl, a town in the northern part of the Netherlands. He was one of the first painters from the northern side of the country to go to Italy. He is credited with introducing art from the High Italian Renaissance movement into the Netherlands during his lifetime. Not much is known about van Scorel's life, but his list of accomplishments is quite long. In addition to being a successful painter, he was also a clergyman, poet, and musician, and he even dabbled in archeology. Art historians believe he began studying with the Master of Alkmaar. He also collaborated with some of his fellow artists in Haarlem up until he was in his early 20s, which was when he began to travel through Europe. Records of places where he registered to work include Venice, Nuremberg, parts of Austria, and Rome. He also made a pilgrimage to the Holy Land, stopping in Jerusalem on his travels. After his pilgrimage, he went back to Rome and met Pope Adrian VI, a Dutchman who also appointed him to be the Vatican's painter. During his time in Italy, van Scorel was influenced heavily by Raphael and Michelangelo. In fact, he became the keeper of the Belvedere courtyard after Raphael. The courtyard was one of the most important parts of the Vatican that was developed during the Italian High Renaissance. Er is heel wat te doen en te zien in de hele stad, en er zijn talloze festivals in de loop van het hele jaar. Er is van alles, van zandsculpturen, tot fotografie en nog meer onderwerpen, die in de stad worden gevierd op verschillende dagen. En houd u van golven, dan is Den Haag ook een geweldige plaats om te gaan surfen. Scheveningen Surfers Village is een ongewoon gebied dat speciaal voor surfers is gecreëerd. U kunt er op het strand overnachten in zeecontainers indien u dat wenst, of er kamperen, en genieten van de golven op elk uur van de dag of nacht. Het gebied is ook de thuisbasis van een zeer populaire badplaats, waar u kunt zeilen, vissen, duiken en kitesurfen. Scheveningen Surfers Village is an unusual area that was created specifically for surfers. The area is also home to a very popular beach resort where you can enjoy sailing, fishing, diving, and kite surfing. A large part of the Sea Life Center is actually tropical jungle with incredible waterfalls and wildlife you normally find in the Amazon River region in South America.
