Advanced Audio Blog S3 #18 - If Only for a Moment, Time Stands Still in France! | Learn French with FrenchPod101! Don't forget to stop by FrenchPod101.com for more great French Language Learning Resources! ----Formal English---- Sunny days are back. The envy for apéritifs as well. It's really a pillar of French living—a special moment that is shared with friends, close relatives, and family. Before the meal, we take a drink (or two) with little things to nibble on. There are even special alcohol synonyms of apéritif such as "le pinneau" and "le muscadet," which is served with a fruit liquor often made of black currant or peach. It is "le kir." We serve "le pastis" as well. On the food side, usual snacks are salty peanuts and crackers (with bacon, cheese, and spices). We find a full display of them in the market. But in recent years, with the warnings about obesity, French people turn toward food that is less caloric . We often find vegetables (radishes, carrots, and cauliflower...) that are dipped in sauces (with herbs and ketchup...) It is a privileged moment that is spent with people we appreciate. It is the less formal moment where people get comfortable in the living room or on the patio when summer starts. How could I describe the sensation of a taken apéritif on the patio or in the shade of a tree summer evening around seven to seven-thirty p.m. when the sun begins to set and then the air gets cooler? It allows for relaxation. It is like a tiny moment of freedom. Children play in the yard, people quench their thirst, we talk about the day, and we exchange the last news. Of course, it is done all year at noon or in the evening when time allows it. In winter, we come get warm indoors, and it is the same sensation of sharing, of suspended time. "L'apéro" can also be taken with friends in a café. We gather after a work day before going home. What is [...] | 5/3/12 | Free | View In iTunes |

| 14 | VideoVideo S2 #19 - Have Your French Skills Been Declared a Natural Disaster?! | Learn French with FrenchPod101.com! Staring out the window at work today in Paris, you noticed some rain clouds rolling in. One of your coworkers heard a reporter on the radio say that there is a high probability Paris will see torrential downpours too. Back home you have seen the very worst of thunderstorms, so you really weren't too worried…that is, until you got off work! As you walk out the door of your office in France, you are astonished to see that those little rainclouds have now turned into huge back clouds shadowing the city! You decide you just need to get home quickly. However, as you are driving home the rain starts coming down so hard you can't see the road in front of you! You pull over and flip on the radio, hoping you can make out enough French to pick up what they are saying on the weather reports. Unfortunately, the reporters and meteorologists are all talking so rapidly and excitedly that you can't make out anything they are saying in French. Too bad too…because one man just reported in French, "The hurricane is blowing in from the sea!!!" Sitting on the side of the highway in your car in France is probably not the safest place to be, but then, you don't know what's coming anyway… Learning French with FrenchPod101.com is the most fun and effective way to learn French! This French Video Vocabulary lesson will teach you how to talk about natural disasters in French. In this French vocabulary video, you will learn French by watching the video, seeing both English and French translations describing the video, and all while listening to the French translations being read aloud by our native French speakers. Advanced Audio Blog #1 - So...Tell Me a Little About Yourself! | Learn French with FrenchPod101! Don\'t forget to stop by FrenchPod101.com for more great French Language Learning Resources! ----Formal English---- So...Tell Me a Little About Yourself! Hi, it\'s me. Hello, my name is Christophe, and I will be your new Audio Blog host! First off, the most basic thing...let me introduce myself to you! I was born in Corsica, at Porto Vecchio, in the south of the Ile de Beauté. I now live in Paris, one of the most beautiful cities in the world. I have a diploma in French language and literature, and I am about to start my second year of communication studies. That\'s why I work for Frenchpod101.com—I love to communicate and meet new people so we can share plenty of good things! I also teach French to young students, since unfortunately, French is a language that even some native speakers are having problems with and are starting to lose. But, I am counting on you, FrenchPod101 listeners, to breathe new life into the French language! I am also very fond of books and literature. I once worked as a bookseller. It was such a great experience because I could talk to the clients about books we both read and our favorites. Anytime you go to a bookstore, don\'t hesitate to ask the bookseller for advice, or simply ask what books he\'s read and liked recently! This kind of rapport between booksellers and readers is what gets me some great recommendations for new books to buy. Lastly, I love sports—all kinds, but I play tennis because it allows me to blow off steam...you need to do that sometimes. Always better than taking it out on people! That\'s about everything there is to know about me! And what about you, dear listeners? Tell me something about your lives. What do you do? Why are you studying French? I\'ll say goodbye on that note—see you soon and I hope to reply to your comments on Frenchpod101.co | 8/2/06 | Free | View In iTunes |

Customer Reviews
Merci Beaucoup!
As a French minor preparing for my 2000-level courses, my skill level of advanced-beginner/low-intermediate is very well enhanced and aided by this podcast. I am also reminded about beginner/newbie concepts I might have forgotten, and am allowed a taste of what I should expect to come, thanks to advanced episodes There are several aspects that I enjoy about this particular French podcast, considering I am subscribed to about seven other ones: 1. Length of episodes is perfect; enough so one can learn and have a good sample of the language without becoming bored. Also, the skill level of each episode is right up front, which is handy. 2. Hosting format; I gather two of the three hosts are native French speakers, with the last one being American. In this way, the hosts can bounce translations and questions off each other throughout the lessons so French learners can get a better idea of what something means. 3. The text is downloaded with the episode information, so you can view the selected dialogue of each episode right on your iPod and read along word-by-word. This is much more convenient that having to find and download it somewhere else. 4. And finally, these hosts are actually entertaining and have personality. For a podcast, and an educational, language-based one at that, this is maybe the most important thing. I hope those who produce this podcast will not be stopping it anytime soon. Subscribe!
Excellent Podcast
Excellent podcast. The lesson are entertaining and informative. I highly recommend this podcast.
Great listening practice
This podcast provides very good listening practice for the newbie. I really appreciate that because some podcasts don't really have conversations, just vocabulary, and some have listening practice that is just too advanced for the newbie. Thanks, guys!
