Don't forget to stop by ItalianPod101.com for more great Italian Language Learning Resources! -------Lesson Dialog------- ----Formal ---- Maria: Peter, Giulia, ci possiamo fermare qui. Giulia: Benissimo. ----Formal English---- Maria: Peter, Giulia, we can stop here. This is the picnic area in the park. Giulia: Okay. You were right, Maria—Sigurtà Park is really gorgeous. Peter, have you ever been here? Peter: No, I've never been here before. I've already been to Lake Garda twice, but it's my first time here. Maria: It's a huge park—there is a great variety of plant life, including a four-hundred-year-old oak, and there are some water gardens, a hermitage, and a little castle. We can go there later if you want. Giulia: Yes, yes, but now I'm starving. Here are the drinks and...oh no! I forgot the plastic glasses! Peter: No worries. I brought them. Maria: Thank you, Peter! I brought the dessert—a homemade tiramisu. But we have to hurry to eat it because it's already melting. Giulia: Don't worry, I won't leave the dessert for sure. Peter: Ladies, the sun is really hot here. Let's move over there under that tent. What do you think? Maria: Good idea. We will get a tan later while walking in the park. --------------------------- Learn Italian with ItalianPod101! Don't forget to stop by ItalianPod101.com for more great Italian Language Learning Resources! In campagna però Billo stava sicuramente meglio. Peter: Ah, non vivevi qui da piccola? Maria: No, fino a 13 anni abitavo in cascina fuori Milano. Maria: Peccato. ----Formal English---- Maria: Do you mind if we stop here to buy something to eat for Billo, my dog? Peter: You have a dog? I didn't know that. Maria: Yes. He's a bit old now, but he is always affectionate. When I was little, he used to go to school with me, and when I went back home, he was always waiting for me behind the main entrance. Peter: Really? Maria: We are lucky because we live in front of a park and I can often take Billo for a walk. In the countryside, Billo was definitely doing better though. Peter: Oh, you didn't live here when you were little? Maria: No, until I was thirteen years old, I used to live on a farm outside of Milan. It was my grandparents' house. We used to have cats and even a parrot. The place was nice and spacious for us children. When I think about it, I get a bit nostalgic. Then at thirteen years old, during the summer, we moved to the city for my dad's job. Well, I got used to life in the city. Peter, do you have pets? Peter: No, not anymore, but as a child I had a cat. It was a stray cat. One day my mom found him in bad condition in front of our house, and we adopted him. Now in my condominium, pets are not allowed. Maria: Too bad. --------------------------- Learn Italian with ItalianPod101! Don't forget to stop by ItalianPod101.com for more great Italian Language Learning Resources! -------Lesson Dialog------- ----Formal ---- Peter: Grazie Claudio per avermi invitato all’aperitivo stasera. Maria: Beh, a casa sto bene. ----Formal English---- Peter: Thank you, Claudio, for inviting me to the happy hour tonight. This bar is nice, and the snacks are tasty [laugh]. I didn't know about this bar before. Claudio: We should come here more often then. Ah, Peter, do you know Maria? Peter: Yes, we take a course in architecture together. Do you come here often, Maria? Maria: Yeah, about once a week. I live around the corner. Peter: Wow, you live in a nice residential area of Milan! Maria: Yes it's true. I'm lucky. I live with my family in a building in front of that park. Where do you live, Claudio? Claudio: I live in the university accommodations. I share an apartment with two other students. It's a good experience. Peter: Maria, have you ever thought of living alone? Maria: Well, I'm happy at home. I've got a nice family—I have a younger sister and an older brother, and my grandma also lives with us. Peter: What do your sister and brother do? Maria: My sister is in high school, and my brother is a surgeon. He is getting married soon, and he is going to live in the apartment next to ours. So I can visit him any time I want. Peter: Nice! On the other hand, I have been living alone for almost a year here in Italy. I like my independence and having an apartment that's only mine. Maria: I understand. I also would like to be more independent sometimes, but my parents' house is near the university, and the cost of living in Milan is too high for me to afford to live alone. In Italy, it's normal to live with the family until graduation. --------------------------- Learn Italian with ItalianPod101! Audio Blog S2 #18 - Nicole’s Italy #5 - Soccer at the San Siro stadium | Learn Italian with ItalianPod101! Don't forget to stop by ItalianPod101.com for more great Italian Language Learning Resources! ----Formal English---- Soccer at the San Siro stadium Soccer is the great sporting passion of Italians. The national season starts in September and finishes in May. During this period the fans fill the stadiums and bars to watch the games. The destiny of the local or loved team changes the mood and pride of the town or region (at least for those who are passionate). In Italy there are three professional series, the A, B and C. The A series is the highest and best while the C is the lowest. With a few exceptions the strongest teams (A series) are from the most important cities where they are sponsored by industries and local commerce. The B and C series are made up mostly of teams from smaller towns. When a team suffers a demotion from the A series to the B series (or worse the C series!) it seems it’s passing from heaven to purgatory or even hell. A while ago Florence’s team, la Fiorentina, suffered a demotion and you could see the bad mood and embarrassment on the fans’ faces. The moving emotions created by soccer are surely felt even more watching the game at the stadium. The first game that I ever saw was in Milan at the San Siro stadium, the largest stadium in Italy. This stadium is lucky to host two of the strongest teams in Italy, Milan and Inter. I saw the match between Perugia and Milan and Milan won. I had lots of fun, when the stadium is full, seeing the thousands of passionate fans charges you with energy! --------------------------- Learn Italian with ItalianPod101! Melissa: Ah, ah. Che buffi che siete tutti e tre! ----Formal English---- Ilaria: So, Melissa. Why have you decided to stay longer in Italy? Melissa: It's very simple. First of all, because I like living here. In addition, I have an interesting job, and I certainly have more friends here than in the United States. Alessio: Ah good, only for this then? Melissa: Wait, I wanted to say that in addition, in Florence I have a boyfriend who loves me very much. Alessio: Just what I wanted to hear you say. Ilaria: Besides, in the United States, you wouldn't have some friends and likeable colleagues like us! Melissa: Ah, ah. You three are so funny! --------------------------- Learn Italian with ItalianPod101! This is great!
A friend of mine recommended this podcast to me... I am now officially addicted! The hosts, Marco and Cinzia, have awesome chemistry and make the whole learning experience so much fun. I never thought that learning Italian can be so easy! I recommend this podcast to anyone interested in learning Italian.
Fantastico!!!
This is a great series! I love the hosts - they seem like they are having fun, not stiff like other audio language programs I have listened too. I load the newbie and beginner series on my iPod and listen while I’m driving. I can’t speak Italian yet, but hopefully soon.
Italian Edutainment
Everyone else has hit it on the head - these hosts are great (very fun to listen too, they keep your attention because they are very entertaining!). And since it is entertaining i find myself listening to each lesson more than once. I currently live in Florence USA - but am going to Europe in one year, and at the top of my list is Florence Italy. The audio blogs and beginner lessons are going to be my primary tool for preparation - thanks for making this podcast!
