CleanMark 1 | General Notes on the Book of Mark Mark was a sister's son to Barnabas, Colossians 4:10. and Acts 12:12. shows that he was the son of Mary, a pious woman of Jerusalem, at whose house the apostles and first Christians assembled. From Peter's styling him his son, 1 Peter 5:13,. the evangelist is supposed to have been converted by that apostle. Thus Mark was closely united with the followers of our Lord, if not himself one of the number. Mark wrote at Rome; some suppose that Peter dictated to him, though the general testimony is, that the apostle having preached at Rome, Mark, who was the apostle's companion, and had a clear understanding of what Peter delivered, was desired to commit the particulars to writing. And we may remark, that the great humility of Peter is very plain where any thing is said about himself.Scarcely an action or a work of Christ is mentioned, at which this apostle was not present, and the minuteness shows that the facts were related by an eye-witness. This Gospel records more of the miracles than of the discourses of our Lord, and though in many things it relates the same things as the Gospel according to St. Matthew, we may reap advantages from reviewing the same events, placed by each of the evangelists in that point of view which most affected his own mind. Clean1 Kings 2:1-4 | 1 Kings 2: 1-4Verse 1-4 - David's charge to Solomon is, to keep the charge of the Lord. The authority of a dying father is much, but nothing to that of a living God. God promised David that the Messiah should come from his descendants, and that promise was absolute; but the promise, that there should not fail of them a man on the throne of Israel, was conditional; if he walks before God in sincerity, with zeal and resolution: in order hereunto, he must take heed to his way. | 10/31/10 | Free | View In iTunes |

CleanJohn 18:1-14 | John 18:1-14 1When Jesus had spoken these words, he went forth with his disciples over the brook Cedron, where was a garden, into the which he entered, and his disciples. 2And Judas also, which betrayed him, knew the place: for Jesus ofttimes resorted thither with his disciples. 3Judas then, having received a band of men and officers from the chief priests and Pharisees, cometh thither with lanterns and torches and weapons. 4Jesus therefore, knowing all things that should come upon him, went forth, and said unto them, Whom seek ye? 5They answered him, Jesus of Nazareth. Jesus saith unto them, I am he. And Judas also, which betrayed him, stood with them. 6As soon then as he had said unto them, I am he, they went backward, and fell to the ground. 7Then asked he them again, Whom seek ye? And they said, Jesus of Nazareth. 8Jesus answered, I have told you that I am he: if therefore ye seek me, let these go their way: 9That the saying might be fulfilled, which he spake, Of them which thou gavest me have I lost none. 10Then Simon Peter having a sword drew it, and smote the high priest's servant, and cut off his right ear. The servant's name was Malchus. 11Then said Jesus unto Peter, Put up thy sword into the sheath: the cup which my Father hath given me, shall I not drink it? 12Then the band and the captain and officers of the Jews took Jesus, and bound him, 13And led him away to Annas first; for he was father in law to Caiaphas, which was the high priest that same year. 14Now Caiaphas was he, which gave counsel to the Jews, that it was expedient that one man should die for the people. | 10/3/10 | Free | View In iTunes |

Pastor Tom
Few teachers these days have the guts to teach the raw truths of scripture without pulling punches, the humility to keep the focus on god's word and not themselves, and the wisdom gained through reaching the Throne of Grace "the hard way". Much like Paul the Apostle, Tom lived a life in the dark, but by the grace of God was brought into the flock at rock bottom, and through years of God working on him was made to be a shepherd and teacher of the Word.
Tom Sanderbrink teaches chapter by chapter through the Old and New Testaments, not by some special formula, but by the grace of God week to week, always encouraging the congregation to stay in the scriptures and stay engaged in their own Bible reading. He urges us to challenge his and anybody else's teachings by reading the Bible ourselves, seeking original context as well as application for our own lives.
Nothing radical or revolutionary is taught here. As Tom reminds us often, there is nothing new under the sun. The Bible was not written in code that only a theologian can understand - it was written for all the Children of God, that those who seek Him will find Him.
Since September of this year, I have left this podcast running on my daily commute to and from work, and God has used Pastor Tom's teaching to daily transform my walk with Him from a passive belief in (or agreement with) Jesus Christ to an active hunger for His Word. I find myself driven to allow Christ to become a part of how I live day to day, decision to decision.
I have never been to Lebanon, Oregon, and am not a Calvary Chapel member. I live in Las Vegas, and attend Lamb of God Lutheran Church. I was introduced to this podcast by a co-worker, and would recommend it to anyone looking for inspiration to stoke the fires in a lukewarm walk with God and get back into His word. 5+ stars.
