Listen to The Lancet: 06 October 2007 | Human papillomavirus DNA testing detects lesions which lead to cervical cancer earlier than conventional cytological techniques, and this early detection could lead to the extension of the current screening interval of five years by at least another year, comments Chris Meijer from VU Medical Centre, Amsterdam in this week's podcast. This extension would be advantageous to women because of a reduction in the lifetime number of screening tests and referrals. An accompanying Comment says that as well as being safe, such extended screening intervals will not only reduce the cost of screening and the burden for women, but will also improve screening participation. | 10/5/07 | Free | View In iTunes |

Customer Reviews
Outstanding
I am surprised at the poor review. I have found Lancet's Podcasts to be really outstanding and very much enjoyed them
Disappointing
Amateurish compared to NEJM and JAMA podcasts, which offer more substantive summaries of their journals. As far as I can tell, the speakers aren't MD's, and the discussion is very superficial. In general, the Lancet is more political than American medical journals and more directed to international health care and epidemiology-positive or negative points depending on your point of view. In any case, these podcasts are too brief and lacking in depth to stimulate interest in the Lancet-maybe they'll eventually expand. SK, MD Massachusetts
slow
I am continuously surprised at the ridiculously slow server; I have a very fast cable connection, and it can still take me half an hour to download a 14Mb Lancet podcast. And this isn't a one-time event. When all podcasts--including video podcasts that are many times larger--have finished downloading, the Lancet one still has 25 minutes to go. VERY frustrating.
