CleanThe Ascension | Acts 1:1 Written to Theophilus (means “friend of God”) The first account refers to the Gospel of Luke. Luke (beloved physician – Col 4:14; II Tim 4:11) wrote the book of Luke and the book of Acts. Luke 1:1-4 Luke was not an eyewitness. “Investigated everything carefully” (NASB) = “Having perfect understanding” (KJV) “from the beginning” (GK – “anothen” – from above - James 1:17, 3:15, 17) Luke investigated records and was accurate in his communication. But even more so, he was guided by God, and his Lord Jesus Christ through the holy spirit. (II Tim 3:16) Acts 1:2 The Gospel of Luke gives the record of Jesus until the day he was taken up to heaven. The book of Acts picks up where the Gospel of Luke ends. (Luke 24:44-53) Acts 1:3 Jesus spoke of things concerning the Kingdom of God. Jesus’ started his ministry preaching the Kingdom of God (Mt 4:17-23). This... To read the rest of the notes visit lhim.org/sermons | 5/20/12 | Free | View In iTunes |

Revelation 1:5; 5:9: 7:14; 22:11 We have been made holy; now we are to stay holy. 1John 1:5-10 “If” indicates a condition. If we walk in light, the blood of Jesus cleanses us from all sin. CleanHead of the Body | Ephesians 1:20-23 Jesus is the head; the church is the body. In the context, God is the one who fills all in all, so in the body of Christ is God’s fullness. Ephesians 4:15 and 16; Colossians 1:18-20; 2:19 Ephesians 2:12-22 The saints, the faithful ones, make up the new temple with Jesus as the foundation, cornerstone. We make the dwelling place of God through the spirit. Ephesians 5:22-33 The marriage provides another example for us of how Christ is in relationship to his church. Matthew 28:20 I am with you always even to the end of the age. John 14:3, 18, 23, 28 Jesus has come to each and every believer by way of the spirit. 2Corinthians 2:17; Colossians 1:27 We really have Christ living in us. When people are living with you, normally you are aware of their presence and govern or moderate you behavior accordingly. Romans 8:9 The spirit of God and the spirit of Christ are the same spirit. CleanTreasure God's Word | Prov. 2: 1-4 God's Word is described as: my words, commandments, wisdom, understanding, and hidden treasure. James 1:5-8; 1 Peter 2:2 Treasure (verb) = cherish, prize, adore, value 1 Peter 2:2 We long for the pure milk of the Word so that we may grow. Prov. 2:5 When we are actively seeking God's wisdom and understanding, then we will discern the fear of the LORD and discover the knowledge of God. Deut 17:18-20 The fear of the LORD comes from knowing the Scriptures. The process of growing up in the LORD includes: - Love and honor God first - Study the Scriptures, and pray - Have faith that the Bible is the revealed wisdom of God - Knowing this wisdom and understanding will enable you to make godly choices and avoid sin - When sin on occasion does occur, it will be known right away and can be extinguished I Cor. 2: 3-16 God has given us His Word. To understand this Word, we must have the holy spirit to guide us. The things of God are... To read the rest of the notes visit lhim.org/sermons | 4/15/12 | Free | View In iTunes |

CleanLove and Responsibility | John 13:33-35 In preparation for his departure from the earth and with his suffering in sight, Jesus gave a new commandment to love as he loved. John 14:15-23 Love and obedience to his commandments are connected. John 14:31 Jesus held himself to the same standard demanded of us. The world will know he loved the Father because he obeyed His commandments unto the death of the cross. John 15:9- 17 These things I command you, that ye love one another. John 15:19 If ye were of the world, the world would love his own. John 17:26 And I have declared unto them thy name, and will declare it. CleanA Lifestyle of Integrity | Definition of the word “INTEGRITY” from dictionary.com: 1. Adherence to moral and ethical principles; soundness of moral character; honesty. 2. The state of being whole, entire, or undiminished: to preserve the integrity of the empire. David II Samuel 7 – YHWH promises to establish David’s kingdom forever and to take care of his children. David to Solomon I Kings 2.1-4 – David exhorts his son. YHWH to Solomon I Kings 9.1-9 – We see in verse 3 that YHWH puts His name there forever. His part of the agreement wasn’t conditional. But Solomon’s was. See 9.4 – ff. Solomon’s final response I Kings 11.4 – ff What does a lifestyle of integrity look like? Psalm 15, 26 Proverbs 2.1-7, 10.1-9, 11.1-3, 19.1 What about me? CleanThe Work of Jesus | Jesus was a man, tempted as all of us; yet, he walked perfectly and chose to live his life doing the work of the Father (Heb 2:17-18). He is referred to as “the Son of God” 46 times in the New Testament. He is referred to as “the Son of Man” 84 times. He is never referred to as “God the Son,” or a “God man.” Jesus was a man, the mediator between God and mankind (I Tim 2:5). The term “Son of Man” is used 93 times in the book of Ezekiel and emphasizes the humanity of the messenger in contrast to the divine origin and authority of the message. Jesus was a man. He had free will to walk according to the flesh or according to the spirit. He was the perfect man, the perfect human, not a “God man” but rather a human being in the flesh, who had to decide to live according to the will of God (Heb 4:15). Jesus was driven, purposeful, self-motivated, determined, temperate, resolute, focused, and confident. He was... CleanDo Not Lose Heart | 2 Corinthians 4:1 If ever a man had reason to lose heart and give up, Paul was the man. 14 Paul believed in the resurrection and found the resources to endure the struggles of life with it in view. 15 Paul’s aim was to bring glory to God. 16 Each day, we are closer to death and eternal life. Which will you focus upon? If you want to endure until the end, think like Paul. 17 What greater comparison can be given than a moment compared to eternity? 18 The great key to life is about focus. What do you look at? 5:2 We have a certain amount of groaning because we do not want to die but to be changed. We desire that our mortality may put on immortality. Romans 8:23 4 It is against the nature of man to desire death but not to desire the garment of immortality. 5 KJV says “earnest of the spirit”- The spirit is a small taste of the full thing that we will inherit when Christ returns. 2Corinthians 1:22; Ephesians 1:13 and 14;... CleanLoving Service | Romans 12:1 Service is called sacrifice – it is spiritual. The spirit was never given for selfish gain. It is for service to others. Service is a sacrifice done selflessly, not begrudgingly or out of obligation, but out of love. Loving service is an important aspect of spiritual growth. It gets your eyes off yourself and your problems and onto helping others. Romans 12:2-3 The world magnifies self. The highest/most important people get served rather than serving in love. Luke 22:24-27 Romans 12:4-8 EVERYONE has something to give, not just a few. I Peter 4:8-11 I Corinthians 12:14-27 Each and every one received a gift. Everyone has something to give. We are members of one body. Every single member is needed. Even if you don’t believe that you’re needed, it doesn’t change the truth of God’s Word. What keeps a person volunteering? John 6:66-69 – “Lord to whom shall we go?” Romans 12:9-13 Service is an important... To read the rest of the notes visit lhim.org/sermons | 3/4/12 | Free | View In iTunes |

CleanPower in the Church | 1Peter 3:18-22 Jesus’ spiritual resurrected life enables him to have power and authority greater than anyone else in the entire universe with the exception of Almighty God. Colossians 1:18-20 Jesus made right everything that was wrong in heaven and earth. Ephesians 1:19- 2:6 Christ is seated at the right hand of God, so then we too must be in this same place, which indicates access to the same kind of power and authority! Colossians 1:13 and 14 Matthew 10:1, 7 and 8; Luke 10:17-20 - When Jesus was in his earthy ministry, he gave power and authority to both the 12 apostles and the 70 disciples. They were clearly taught that the power they operated with him was not a temporary happenstance but rather a type for what they could continue to do, even after he was gone. Mark 16:15-20; Luke 24:49; Acts 1:5 and 8 The Church has been given incredible power and authority to partner with Christ to accomplish the will of God on earth. John 20:21-23 On the day... CleanScripture Build-Up | Matthew 27:32, Mark 15:21 and Luke 23:26 All say that Simon of Cyrene carried the cross. John 19:17 Seems to say that Jesus carried the cross; however, this is a figurative expression often used in Jesus’ time which meant accepting the responsibility of carrying out another’s will. Matthew 10:24-39 The wickedness of men and not the purity of the gospel is the cause of hostility. Micah 7:6 Matthew 16:24-27 In Matthew 10, the emphasis was on relationships; here in Matthew 16, the emphasis is on the world. Let him surrender to God his will, affections, body, and soul. Let him not seek his own happiness as the supreme object but be willing to renounce all and to lay down his life also, if required. Mark 8:27-38; Luke 9:23; and 14:25-33 - We must look at all the places that have similar information to gain the complete truth. Luke 23:32-43 “Criminals” is from the Greek word “kakourgos.” Matthew 27:39-44 Two kakourgos were... To read the rest of the notes visit lhim.org/sermons | 2/19/12 | Free | View In iTunes |

CleanBondslave of the LORD | Luke 1:38 Mary called herself a bondslave. Exodus 21:1-11; Leviticus 25:35-46 The background of the bondslave in the Old Testament provides great insight to our relationship with our Lord Jesus Christ. Matthew 20:7ff; 24:32ff; 25:14ff Jesus spoke about bondslaves often because it was a commonly understood concept to the people in his day. 1Corinthians 6:20; 7:21-23 We were bought with a price; therefore, Jesus is now to be our Lord. Galatians 6:17 The mark is pricked in or branded upon the body. Romans 1:1; Philippians 1:1 Paul considered himself a bondslave. Romans 6:16-20; 2Peter 2:19 We all are slaves of someone or something. Galatians 1:6-12 A bondslave does not strive to please men. Ephesians 6:5-8; Colossians 3:22-25 Work as a slave of Christ, not men. Philippians 2:6-11 Jesus is our example of a bondslave. CleanThe Covenants of God | II Corinthians 1:21 The promises of God are “yes” and “Amen!” Through the years, starting with the man Abraham, God not only made promises, but He also made a few everlasting covenants. CleanThe Power of God's Word | Genesis 3:1-6 The devil accused God of lying to Eve, of holding back something from her that would make her like God. In reality, he was the liar. He is the deceiver and the accuser. With his lies, he endeavors to render ineffective the impact of God’s powerful life-giving words. Revelation 12:10 He is the great accuser of God and man. Zechariah 3:1 and 2 He is present to accuse and cause doubt, fear, and unbelief. Genesis 4:1-8 Sin is waiting to attack you, longing to destroy you, but you can conquer it. Genesis 6 Also, a problem for us is the world − that is both the physical world and the people in our world. 2Corinthians 11:3 As the serpent deceived Eve, so he can deceive us too. We must learn to withstand or stand when confronted with the devil, sin, and the world. 1 Corinthians 10:12 and 13 God makes a way. CleanLove the Best Way | Luke 10:25-28 The all important question; the simple answer − love Matthew 5:34 and 35 Jesus understood God’s top priority and taught accordingly. Love is based upon obedience to the Scriptures and should not be confused with human love, which is conditioned upon the relationship held with others. 1 Corinthians 13:1-3 The point is not to cast a disparaging view on these manifestations, but to magnify dynamically the importance of utilizing all manifestations with God’s love. If without love we are nothing, then with love we are something. 1John 4:8 love is not an emotion or a feeling; rather, it is a deliberate choice to obey God’s Word above our own thoughts, feelings, emotions, or desires. God Himself is the standard of this love. 1Corinthians 13:4-8 All the “not” behavior comes to us naturally without any disciplined effort. To love God’s way is to be like God and is supernatural. 1Peter 3:20; Exodus 34:6;... To read the rest of the notes visit lhim.org/sermons | 1/8/12 | Free | View In iTunes |

CleanReturn to Love | Revelation 1:3 Gives us every indication that this epistle is to us and can be understood by us to the point of reading, hearing, and heeding. 1:7 As with all church epistles, it was first sent to the churches that existed then, but it is also relevant today. 2:1-5 This is first in influence or principal, not in order. They did well in preserving the doctrine but slipped in loving God, Jesus, and their fellowman. Acts 19:1-10, 17-20 Within two years and three months, they had the most remarkable outreach ever. All the other churches John writes to were founded during this time. Their former love was for God, their Lord, and humanity. They were great lovers. When those 12 men received the holy spirit, a radical transformation took place, which happens with the realization that God loves you. 1John 3:16 Knowing that God loves us is the foundation of our faith. Everyone has the need to be loved and the need to love. Both can be satisfied only by God’s... To read the rest of the notes visit lhim.org/sermons | 1/1/12 | Free | View In iTunes |

CleanWhy Bethlehem | Matthew 2:1-2 Jesus was born in Bethlehem. However, when the Magi came seeking the young king, they came to Jerusalem. Jerusalem is God’s city. It is the capital of Israel and has several names in Scripture. One name is “The city of David” (II Samuel 5:7-9). Yet, Jesus was born in Bethlehem. Why Bethlehem? Genesis 35:19 - First mention of Bethlehem in the Scriptures This region is also called Ephrath or Ephratah. Ruth 1:1-2, 22; 2:1; 4:10-17 Naomi’s husband was from Bethlehem. After her husband and sons died in Moab, she returned home with her daughter in law, Ruth. They came back to Bethlehem. Boaz, a relative of Elimelech, was also from Bethlehem. The father of Boaz is Salmon (Salma) who is called “Father of Bethlehem” (I Chr 2:51). Boaz married Ruth, and they had a son named Obed, who is the father of Jesse, the father of David. We are family, and our Father commands us to love one another. Loyalty and love should be companions, i.e. children in my home. Galatians 6:1-10 Be good to the household of... CleanPsalm 110 | Psalm 110:1-7 Much prophetic information is presented about our Lord Jesus Christ. “The LORD [Yahweh] said unto my Lord [Adon]….” The second “Lord” in the AV is from the Hebrew Adon, and in the NASB, it is from the Hebrew word Adonai. In the Masoretic Text, it is the word Adon. Hebrew Words Translated “Lord” YHWH - Transliterated Yahweh – The name of God Adone - Lord, master, owner, controller; (from a root meaning to rule) – a sovereign Adonai - Emphatic form of Adone – “The Lord” - A title of God translated “Lord;” used 444 times, most of which are referring to God Matthew 22:41-46; Luke 20:42-44 They did not understand that the Christ was also the Son of God. CleanFear | Genesis 3:8-10 The first interaction man had with God was motivated by fear of God. They hid from God. Exodus 14:10-18 The sight of the Egyptians marching caused Israel to be paralyzed in fear. Fear impacted their behavior I John 4:18 – “There is no fear in love; but perfect love casts out fear: because fear hath torment. He that fears is not made perfect in love.” Numbers 14:1-ff The children of Israel believed the report of the elders and refused to enter into the Promised Land due to fear. In them we see the horror of fear and the extreme evil it can cause. 1Samuel 15:21-24 Saul, for fear of the people, chose to obey their voice over God’s commands. Mark 5:1-20 When the demon occupied man was freed, they were afraid of Jesus and asked him to leave their community. CleanHave Faith in Yahweh | James 5:7-11 Be patient. The Lord is coming. The prophets spoke in the name of Yahweh. Often times, they were rejected and treated as outcasts for their stand, but they remained faithful to Yahweh. Patiently, they reaped the fruits of their faith. James 5:14 The name of Yahweh is powerful. Today, we can invoke the name of Yahweh’s Son, Jesus. His name is also powerful. In Hebrew, his name is Yeshua (Yehoshua/Y’shua) which means “Yahweh is Salvation.” The name Jesus, Yeshua, bears the name of God, Yahweh. There is a name of the Father, and there is a name of the son (Mt 28:19, Rev 3:12, 14:2). When we pray in the name of Jesus, the Father is glorified (John 14:13). James 5:15-16 The effective prayer of a righteous man can accomplish much. James 5:17-18 – Elijah! Elijah I Kings 17:1 Elijah stood before Yahweh, the God of Israel, during evil times. All the other uses are with the phrase “foundation of the world.” “Foundation” in this context means the act of founding or establishing, the beginning point. 2) Themelios translated 16 times foundation, used most often as laid down as a foundation of a building, wall, or city. CleanGlory to God for the Birth of His Son | Luke 1:1-5 Zacharias was a priest after the division of Abijah. (I Chr 24:10) Luke 1:6-27 In the sixth month of Elisabeth’s pregnancy, the angel Gabriel visited Mary in Nazareth. Luke 1:28-33 This child that would be born would be the Son of the Most High. The Lord God would give him the throne of his father David. (I Chr 17:11-15; Jer 33:14-21, Rom 1:1-4) Luke 1:34-35 Through this divine action, the child would be called the Son of God. Jesus was the second Adam (Luke 3:38; Rom 5:12-19; I Cor 15:21-22), made in the image of God (Col 1:15; Gen 1:27). He was the promised seed of the woman (Gen 3:15, Gal 4:4-5), the man that would bring salvation to humanity (ITim 2:3-5). Luke 1:36-45 Mary’s visit to Elisabeth was in her first month of pregnancy. This encounter verified to Mary the promise God had made. Luke 1:46-56 Mary exalts Yahweh, rejoices in God, and declares the mighty deeds of God, while giving glory to the Father. CleanGuided by the Holy Spirit | Matthew 4:1 The spirit is not a person rather a thing. Right in the beginning of the Bible in Genesis 1:2, we see that the spirit is the creative, animating power or divine influence of God. The gift of holy spirit bestowed upon those of faith is God’s supernatural empowerment designed to help believers to know and do the will of God. God is not lead by the spirit rather He leads others with the spirit including his son. Jesus walked perfectly his meekness and obedience to the spirit’s leading. Mark 1:12 the spirit drives him but does not force him It guided him! Luke 4:18 consecrating Jesus to the Messianic office, and furnishing him with the necessary powers for its administration Acts 10:38 he was anointed with holy spirit and power John 1:19-36 Each record of John he talks about Jesus baptizing with spirit which has a different purpose Acts 2:4, 33 Luke 11:9-13 faith that we have this empowerment, willingness to accept its leading and... CleanPerseverance | Colossians 1:9-12 our aim as Christians is perseverance and perfection - Mary The reason games are fun is the possibility of winning. We often measure success and failure by what we accomplish. Isaiah 38:16-ff Hebrews 3:1-19 Hebrew 11:13-16 - Ezekiel 14 Noah, Daniel and Job On July 4, 1952, at the age of 34, Florence Chadwick attempted to become the first woman to swim 21 miles across the Catalina Channel, from Catalina Island to California coast. The ocean was ice cold, the fog was so thick that she could hardly see the support boats that followed her, and sharks prowled around her. Several times, her support crew used rifles to drive away the sharks. While Americans watched on television, she swam for hours. Her mother and her trainer, who were in one of the support boats, encouraged her to keep going. However, after 15 hours and 55 minutes, with only a half mile to go, she felt that she couldn't go on, and asked to be taken out of the water. "Look,... CleanHope in the Resurrection | I Thessalonians 4:13 There are those who have no hope. For people without hope of a future resurrection, grief and sorrow can be great. If when you die there is nothing else, then all we have to live for is the 70-80 years we have in this life. However, we do not have to live in this life without hope. Our hope begins to be realized at the day of Christ’s return, when the dead are raised to life. I Thessalonians 4:14-18 John 5:24-29 Jesus spoke of this resurrection to life. This day is coming. It is still future, but a time is coming when those who have died will be raised to life again. John 6:39-40; 43-44; 54 Jesus will raise up those who believe on the last day. This teaching is simple. We have faith in Jesus today. We live by faith now, and we have the promise of eternal life. If we die before he returns, then we will be raised to life on the last day. This is our hope. This has always been the hope for the people of God. Acts 24:14-15; Daniel... To read the rest of the notes visit lhim.org/sermons | 7/17/11 | Free | View In iTunes |
