Relevant, Biblical, Oustanding

Listening to Mark Driscoll is like listening to a good friend share the Bible from the heart. Like St. Paul before him, Driscoll is not afraid to share deeply from his own life; both victories as well as embarrassing failures. There is no fluff here, just the call to love and embrace Jesus not as a religious excursion but as the life-changing focus of the Cross-centered life. His ability to take Biblical characters, situations and lessons and frame them in modern cultural context (e.g., movies, music, current events and modern dysfunctional family and social fabric) has drawn people from all walks of life. This ain’t your parents’ church, that’s for sure. Driscoll can be wildly hilarious with irony and insight, addressing issues that most pastors wouldn’t get near and saying things most pastors couldn’t get away with. As Driscoll explains, Mars Hill doesn’t reject culture (he calls that fundamentalism) and they don’t capitulate to culture (he calls that liberalism) but rather they “engage” the culture (an approach he calls “missional”). Politics isn’t preached because for the most part the Mars Hill avoids almost any agenda that does not involve promoting the Gospel to the culture today. Some may need a warning that while Mark's delivery is incisive (and at time polemic) the views of the church are what many would deem "conservative." What’s interesting is that Driscoll and the other teachers on staff explain the reasons for their beliefs without dogmatic fundamentalism. For example, they spend as much time denouncing chauvinism as they do feminism, and instead promote what many would call chivalry.

Relevant, Genuine, and just durn good

If you've heard every topical sermon ever preached from "7 Habits of a Successful Christian" to those good ole Southern Baptist goodies chock full of alliteration, then this is the podcast for you ... to get away from that kind of preaching. If you're interested in getting deep into the Word of God and finding relevant application to your life, look no further. Mark Driscoll works through the Bible a book at a time and won't skip over the gooey or uncomfortable parts, but in wisdom and truth highlights God's Word. Enjoy!

Excellent Stuff

I've been in church since I was born and have heard it all (at least I thought so). Pastor Mark Driscoll's teaching is a breath of fresh air in its blunt delivery and relevance to everyday life. Driscoll isn't afriad to preach hard truths and doesn't think we are stupid by preaching self-help mumbo-jumbo.
