12 - Pools | It’s that time again… time for another dose of Media Contender podcasts, this time with Club Muse residents, Kuru. Consisting of Ryan Origin and Media Contender’s own Jeff Tovar, Kuru are doing really cool things together. The fusion of their efforts, along with their finesse in sound engineering and creative perspective on design and aesthetic creates an artistic and deep view into electronic music that can be appreciated on a much deeper level. It is progressive sound at its finest. There’s so much complexity behind the duo and their sound, and it seems as though every minute little piece of what Kuru provides to the music world has been carefully selected and wrought to create a little gem with so many unique and specifically cut facets. | 10/14/11 | Free | View In iTunes |

Explicit10 - Flinch | Media Contender only champions artists that display diversity and who aren’t just following trends, but creating them. Influenced by the originators of the sound our next featured guest in the Media Contender Podcast Series is a serious heavyweight contender who most notably has been making a name for himself as super producer—Flinch. He is no stranger to dance music, this 10 year veteran has been making bass music consistently under various alias’. His unique style has been carved out as an artist who is able to deliver a happy medium between the super hype jump-up and the deeper, more melodic synth-based Dubstep, he has a unique ability that can marry a massive tear-out bassline with a melody that could serenade your grandma. And it doesn’t stop there. A true tastemaker, Flinch delivers a selection of future cuts riding between the UK Funky, Moombahton, Techno, Garage, and Dubstep genre lines. Regardless of the label you put on it, it’s simply good bass music. | 2/28/11 | Free | View In iTunes |

08 - Atlantic Connection | Media Contender Podcast 08 comes from our good friend Nathan Hayes aka Atlantic Connection. This man has been making quality forward thinking dance music for many years. Formerly based in North Carolina where he cut his teeth as one half of the Drum n Bass outfit Basic Operations, AC transplanted to Los Angeles almost 5 years ago to pursue the California dream of making the music he loves in an undeniable environment. His label Westbay Music Group has carved a niche over the last few years putting out quality drum n bass music but what has really got my attention lately is the new material from AC. I haven’t been able to categorize it which is a big part of the reason I like it so much. It's somewhere between liquid, funky, dubstep, garage, drum n bass, etc. but whatever you would calssify it as, the underlying theme is soul. It has that warmth I have come to expect from AC but he’s def put a new twist on it. Download this all-exclusive mix from the Westbay soul man. | 12/13/10 | Free | View In iTunes |

Explicit07 - Kastle | Recently, we introduced you to one of our favorite new artists. Although he is no rookie to dance music, Kastle hails from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. His unique style of garage/2 step/RnB/Dubstep is making serious waves with a slew of remixes circulating the interweb. With the rise in popularity of the big electrified sound of Dubstep, Kastle has taken a different approach. His sound has a certain maturity to it. Its warm, percussive, and soulful. Some are dubbing it Future RnB while others Post Dubstep or Future Garage. We don't care what you call it, we call it good music. It is with great pleasure to be able to present to you his latest mix on the form of Media Contender Podcast 07. | 10/29/10 | Free | View In iTunes |

Explicit06 - Von D | Having recently relocated to Berlin, Von D, has found himself immersed in new surroundings, a new culture and full of inspiration. In short, this mix is a peak into what’s come from his new album, ‘Daydreaming’ soon to be released by Argon Records. This mix will incite feelings of lust, and introduce you to Von D’s latest efforts into what has been dubbed as “Sexystep”. | 10/20/10 | Free | View In iTunes |

Explicit05 - Star Eyes | The name Star Eyes is synonymous with bass music in America. This DJ/producer extraordinaire has made contributions to dance music in this country in more ways you can imagine. We’re serious, you can look back to the nineties and reference the impact made by Vivian Host aka Star Eyes in so many ways. Back then she was best known as one of the first drum n bass DJs in the US, her more recent output as part of New York City’s Trouble and Bass crew is helping to shape the future of bass music, it’s no wonder critics are calling her New York City’s “Best Kept Secret”. | 7/19/10 | Free | View In iTunes |

Explicit04 - Fashen | With a name like Daniel J. Kutz, you know this guy was meant to be a bad man on the turntables. Professionally known as Fashen, this Arizona native has been at the forefront of DJ culture for almost 20 years bouncing back and forth between LA and Phoenix in the early years just to stay in touch with the freshest club music. What started out as a bedroom hobby has turned into a global DJ's way of life. Fashen plays all styles, you never know what you will hear, but you can bet the dancefloor will be bouncing and the set will be technically flawless. We think this dude is a trailblazer and someone you should make yourself more familiar with, starting now. | 5/11/10 | Free | View In iTunes |

Explicit03 - Skeet Skeet | Trevor Mcfedries aka DJ Skeet Skeet found himself immersed in the LA party scene after an awkward run at high school football, playing in hardcore bands and not having much luck with the ladies. Not cutting it in college, he moved back with Mom and hit the clubs and afterhours, inspiring the birth of Skeet Skeet. Building a name at the core of the LA scene by hosting events with friends LA Riots, Royal Rumble, Classixx (Young Americans at the time), and playing celebrity hotspots, hipster hangouts, and Vegas mega clubs, the electro boom took Skeet on a ride with a taste for the good life. He then teamed up with Cisco Adler to complete Shwayze, putting out a Billboard top 10 record and two top 40 singles and touring extensively. Getting his production chops up landing several remixes for Katy Perry, The Ting Tings, Little Boots, this dude built up an army of followers via his blog (eatskeet.com), Twitter, and his Scion Radio 17 show called Roach Coach Radio co-hosted by partner in crime, 12th Planet. Skeet has proven he is a trailblazer, creating a path that is truly his own. | 5/11/10 | Free | View In iTunes |

Explicit02 - (thee) Mike B | Bring on the Media Contender Podcast 02 by our good friend, (thee)Mike B, who has been rocking parties from LA to NYC for many years. Many of the best DJs in the world consider him their favorite. He is known to play very diverse sets and can rock any party he steps into. His recent collaborative project with Nate Day called Camo UFOs delves into his love for old school Jungle/DrumnBass. With several recent high profile remixes for the Count and Sinden, Major Lazer, and Laidback Luke under his belt, this dude is absolutely destroying it right now. We asked him to do our second podcast, simply suggesting a mix that he would feel good about. Seeing as how we just released the Camo UFOs debut mix a few weeks ago and he has done a grip of Electro mixes in the last couple years, he decided to come with a fresh Dancehall and Hip Hop mix that has hot new joints, some classics, dubplates, and a couple specials. | 2/8/10 | Free | View In iTunes |

Explicit09 - Nadastrom | It is time for another edition of the Media Contender Podcast Series. This is number 09 and it comes from DC duo Nadastrom. In 2007 Dave Nada and Matt Nordstrom joined forces to blow up the dancefloor. Individually they have crafted a sound that has made a huge impact on the global dance music scene but when they work together their most massive ideas manifest. We could go on and on about their individual accomplishments which include a Grammy nomination and creation of Moombahton, but its their collaborative work together that we are spotlighting here. Their motivation is simple— to make people dance. In 2008, world-renowned producer and Grammy Nominee Switch (M.I.A., Santigold, Basement Jaxx, Diddy, Christina Aguilara, Lily Allen) signed them to his Dubsided label in 2008 and their debut EP titled Pussy charted internationally, further solidifying their place in the upper echelon of EDM fame. There is no doubt in our mind these two have barely scratched the surface and 2011 will be their biggest year yet. | 1/13/10 | Free | View In iTunes |

01 - Paul Devro | It’s 2010 and we think it’s about time we started our own Podcast Series—something that displays our diverse tastes in music. We took some time to think about this, writing a list of artists that best embodied what Media Contender stood. When Paul Devro came up, we knew he had to be the first. His sets span across all genres, even those we can’t pronounce. We asked him if he would do us the honor of debuting the series and he kindly obliged, asking, “What do you want me to do?” Our response was quick and easy, “Just do what you do.” Some of our favorite DJ sets have been from him, always hearing something we have never heard. | 1/6/10 | Free | View In iTunes |

This is the fore front of dance music. The cutting edge.
I hate to swing on the nuts... But this is the ticket. Kuru is my favorite dance music act. The are about 3 years ahead of the rest of the pack.
