| 38 | CleanVideoPinyin Part 6 | Pinyin Part 6 is the final lesson in the Medlock Method Chinese Pinyin course. In this lesson we introduce the Ü sound. For English speakers this is probably the most challenging sound as we don't have anything that exactly corresponds to it. We call it the kissing sound, not because it is the sound of kiss, but because the way you purse your lips to make the sound. Other than the Ü sound, this lesson wraps up everything we have done before in the Pinyin Course. A quick request. We would really appreciate your leaving a review on iTunes. This will help us in two ways. Firstly it will help our ranking and secondly we need feedback to help us improve what we do. Thanks and have fun! Remember to play the podcast on a regular mp4 player just change the file ending from .m4v to .mp4. And don't forget to visit us at medlock-method.com . | 40 | CleanVideoPinyin Part 5 | In the fifth lesson of our six-part pinyin course we look at two very tricky and important areas: The third tone (falling rising) The Yi sound We look at the yi sound as an initial (first sound), middle and final (ending sound). while not particularly difficult for English speakers to say, reading the sound from the pinyin does create problems for people who are beginning Chinese. This podcast will help. It's a long lesson (42 minutes) so get yourself a nice cup of tea or coffee and have fun! As usually this lesson is produced in m4v format. To convert to mp4 just simply change the file name from .m4v to .mp4 | 11/30/09 | Free | View In iTunes |
| 41 | CleanVideoHow to address people in Chinese | Today's podcast looks at how we address people in Chinese. Many non-Chinese fret over which the proper way to address Chinese people. Will I cause offence? Will I lose face or worse make the other person lose face? Luckily Chiu laoshi is here to rescue us! In this podcast you will learn how to address your friends, classmates and colleagues as well as your friends' parents and friends of your parents. Have fun! Remember you can convert the iTunes proprietary m4v files to mp4 just by changing the file name. | 11/28/09 | Free | View In iTunes |
| 42 | CleanVideoPinyin Part 4 | In Pinyin Part Four you'll be practicing identifying Chinese sounds and tones: essential skills not just for beginners but also for intermediate level learners who haven't yet had the opportunity to spend time in China. We also introduce you to some pinyin sentence reading practice. New in this lesson are the sounds "er" and "wu". Er is unusual. You will often hear it tagged onto certain words by Northern Chinese, especially Beijingers. Other than that "er" is special because it is not used with other sounds to make words. Rather "er" has meanings all of its own. The "wu" sound we practice in this lesson is "wu" combined with other sounds. It's a little tricky at first, but you'll soon get the feel of it. Have fun! As usual, you can play the m4v files on a standard mp3 player just by changing the file name from m4v to mp3. | 11/23/09 | Free | View In iTunes |
| 43 | CleanVideoPinyin Part 3 | In this podcast as well as reviewing the previous material we examine three of the most troublesome vowel sounds in Chinese: i, u & ü. i, u & ü can be used on their own, in other words the sounds themselves have meaning in Mandarin and they can be blended with other vowels and consonants. In addition to these vowel sound the lesson covers the use of the short 5th tone. In the lesson there are exercises to help you identify sounds and tones. Just like phonics at school! Have fun! To learn get a solid foundation in Chinese either buy or subscribe to Medlock Method Chinese. With our famous Ask Me Tell Me method you'll learn to speak Chinese quickly and accurately. Remember to play on an mp4 player other than an iPod just change the file extension from m4v to mp4. | 11/19/09 | Free | View In iTunes |
| 44 | CleanVideoYour Third Chinese Lesson | In the third lesson of Medlock Method Basic Chinese as well as reviewing and consolidating what you have already learned, you will be learning some more greetings and the different times of day in Chinese. Good morning/ afternoon / eveningabove / below To learn more about the Chinese culture and language visit our website and blog . Have fun! | 45 | CleanVideoPinyin Part Two | In this podcast you will be building on the pinyin and Chinese pronounciation you learned in Part One. As with any language it is essential to build a solid foundation. Good pronounciation is one of the key elements in this foundation. If you would like to dive deeper into Chinese, why note sign up for a course at our website? www.medlock-method.com | 11/12/09 | Free | View In iTunes |
| 46 | CleanVideoYour second Chinese lesson | In this podcast we bring you the second lesson (Unit 1.2) from Medlock Method Basic Chinese Level 1. In this lesson, as well as reviewing the first lesson, you will learn about being "busy". Chinese people use this as an "ice-breaker" so it is a very important pattern to learn. You'll also learn siblings ‘both’ and ‘all’ pronouns: singular and plural what about? Don't worry if this doesn't seem like much vocabulary input. At the beginning stages of learning any new language it is important to concentrate on pronounciation and word order rather than learning masses of new vocabulary. In fact, the desire to learn lists of new words is one of the most common mistakes beginners make. It is rarely an effective learning strategy. So don't worry too much about vocabulary at the moment, the time for building vocab will come later. Have fun! As usual you can convert the iTunes m4v file to mp4 just by changing the name. | 11/9/09 | Free | View In iTunes |
| 47 | CleanVideoJia: The Family in Chinese Culture | In Chinese culture the family is the smallest unit in the social structure. In other words individuals are not as important as their families. In this podcast we will introduce you to how the culture of family affects the language. So this is a language as well as a culture podcast. You will learn: How the family affect an individual's social position and vice versa Using 家jiā to describe everyoneUsing 家jiā to identify with someoneUsing 家jiā to describe an inferiorUsing 家jiā for groups of people, people in an industry and people with expertise Have fun! This podcast has been produced in the iTunes m4v format. To play on a standard mp4 player just replace the m4v file extension with mp4 | 11/5/09 | Free | View In iTunes |
| 48 | CleanVideoYour first Chinese lesson | Today's podcast is the whole of the first Chinese lesson in our Basic Chinese series. This lesson can also be found on our website in the demo section (view only, not downloadable) along with lesson 1.2, 1.3 and the pinyin course of our website. In this lesson you'll learn how to say hello and how are you. It doesn't sound like very much, but when starting out with any language even the simplist things seem hard at first. Pay very careful attention to pronounciation and word order as these are the essential first steps to get right when beginning to learn a new language. If you have any questions leave feedback here or at the contact page on our main website. Have fun! Note this is an .m4v file designed for iTunes and iPods. To play on a non Apple device just rename file with a .mp4 extension. | 11/2/09 | Free | View In iTunes |
| 49 | CleanVideoIntroduction to Chinese pinyin | Pinyin is very useful for anyone spending time in China, not just people who want to learn the language. This podcast comes from our free pinyin series. If you can't wait for all the podcasts, all six videos of the pinyin series are also available in the demo section of our main website. In the series we cover not only the individual sounds, but also how to blend them together (just like your phonics classes at school) and how to correctly pronounce the tones. Have fun! Note: If your device can't read the iPod m4v file, just change the file name to mp4. | 10/29/09 | Free | View In iTunes |
| 50 | CleanVideoFace mian zi and guests | Most people know that face - mian zi - is extremely important in Chinese culture, but few people from the West really understand what it means. You'll learn about Inviting people The real meaning of an invitation What to say and what to do What not to say and do The roles different actors play in the great theatre of the Chinese dinner party | 10/26/09 | Free | View In iTunes |

Customer Reviews
Top notch for podcast format
Great lessons to diversify computer-based instruction. The video-based chalk-board/powerpoint type lessons are most helpful, but naturally require closer attention. Not the most dazzling presentation, but engaging enough, and an effective teaching model.
Excellent!
Perfect for beginner n intermediates. Been using for 2 yrs now. Great accents n great lessons. Time duration is great too. Keep up the great work!!
