MentorCONNECT Presents Lisa Kantor JD on Navigating Insurance for ED Treatment | People seeking treatment for eating disorders seldom have the resources to pay for appropriate therapy. They often need extended residential treatment followed by proper step-down treatment. Few health plans understand eating disorders to appreciate the standard of care and are reluctant to pay for the proper time in residential treatment. This tension creates an undesirable atmosphere at a time when cooperation between patients, treatment professionals, and insurers is essential for a patient's full recovery. In this teleconference, Lisa Kantor, JD, the leading eating disorders litigation specialist in the country outlines how patients and treatment providers can learn to better navigate insurance to obtain eating disorders treatment. Lisa Kantor is a principal with the law firm of Kantor 8 Kantor LLP in Los Angeles, CA. She is a tireless advocate on behalf of eating disorder sufferers who have been unfairly denied insurance coverage and reimbursement for necessary expenses related to medical care for recovery from an eating disorder. Lisa received her Juris Doctor from University of Virginia School of Law and was awarded a Dillard Fellow. In her own words, this busy and prolific professional says, "I always have time for eating disorder matters." www.kantorlaw.net | 7/13/11 | Free | View In iTunes |

MentorCONNECT Presents A Roadmap to Full ED Recovery with Dr. Michael E. Berrett and Jenni Schaefer | Tonight’s teleconference topic is “10 Principles of Intuitive Living: A Roadmap to Full Recovery from an Eating Disorder”. This teleconference is designed for those suffering from eating disorders, their friends and families, and for anyone with a desire to have more joy and peace in their lives. Several years ago, Intuitive Eating was offered as a philosophy for a healthy relationship with food that comes from listening to our bodies and following those cues rather than seeking external ones to know how and when to eat. "Intuitive Living" is a broader concept that suggests we can best make decisions, have meaningful relationships, and be at peace with ourselves when we listen to internal messages, which come from the heart. When we truly follow the heart—rather than simply allowing our thoughts or emotions to rule—we find ourselves spiritually alive, giving and receiving the abundance life has to offer, and enjoying serenity (even in difficult circumstances). As you will learn shortly, Principles of Intuitive Living are critical for being in recovery and for becoming fully recovered. Our wonderful co-presenters are Dr. Michael E. Berrett, licensed psychologist and CEO, Executive Director and Co-Founder of Center for Change, and Jenni Schaefer, author, speaker, and consultant with Center for Change. MentorCONNECT Presents Emme for NEDAwareness Week 2011 | MentorCONNECT is honored to offer this special teleconference with NEDA Celebrity Ambassador Emme, who shares her thoughts with us about why it is so important to participate in eating disorders awareness events like the MentorCONNECT NEDAwareness Virtual Walk as a tool to give and receive support to all who need it. As a two-time “50 Most Beautiful People’ winner, Glamour Magazine’s “Woman of the Year” and Biography Magazine’s “25 Most Influential People”, Emme’s impact in the fashion and media world is unquestioned. But much more deeply personal is her own journey towards positive body image in the “thin is in” culture that continues to pervade society today. As a mom, an activist, a speaker, a cancer survivor, and a television producer, Emme uses her star status to promote self and size acceptance and do good wherever she finds the opportunity. MentorCONNECT is grateful that one of the many causes that Emme is passionate about is her service work as an Ambassador for the National Eating Disorders Association. As she frequents the Oprah Winfrey Show, Entertainment Tonight, CNN, CBS, NPR, Rachael Ray, and others, she brings awareness and education about eating disorders and body image issues with her wherever she goes. Because of advocates and activists like Emme, hardworking non-profit organizations like the National Eating Disorders Association and MentorCONNECT have a chance to make our voices heard as well. MentorCONNECT Presents: National Eating Disorders Association (NEDA) Navigator Training Information | For tonight’s teleconference we are thrilled to welcome Susie Roman, Program Director with the National Eating Disorders Association, often referred to as NEDA. Susie will share more information with us about an exciting new training program called the NEDA Navigators. NEDA Navigators are not mental health professionals themselves, but are dedicated volunteers who are trained to assist others who are navigating the complex system of seeking help for an eating disorder for the first time. Volunteers are trained by an eating disorders professional and NEDA staff to be a knowledgeable, informal source of support and guidance to those who are new to the illness. NEDA Navigators training is for anyone who is already far along in their own recovery, or in helping a loved one recover, who wants to share what they have learned with others. Tonight’s event will give an overview of what NEDA Navigators training is like and what Navigators do once they are trained. NEDA Navigators Training is provided by NEDA free of charge to interested individuals who qualify. The National Eating Disorders Association (NEDA) is a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting individuals and families affected by eating disorders. MentorCONNECT is a proud member of the NEDA Network, an association of like-minded not-for-profit organizations all working together to provide a unified voice of strength, advocacy and support in the fight against eating disorders. Thom Rutledge Presents: Ready or Not, Here it Comes…Your Shot at Happiness (Without Ed!) | In this teleconference, Thom Rutledge, with the able assistance of Jeanette Henriques and Cheryl Kerrigan, discusses one of the biggest challenges of eating disorder recovery: what to do with yourself – and your life – when all of your efforts to recover pay off. With solid, authentic recovery comes the question, “Who will I be when I am no longer defined by my eating disorder?“ Separating from Ed is only the beginning. If you don’t know how to respond to this question, Ed may well maintain a foothold in your life, keeping you just on the outside of full recovery. If the idea of living your life without keeping Ed waiting in the wings, ready to return if you need him, scares you, then most definitely join us for this teleconference. Thom Rutledge is the author of several books, including Embracing Fear: How to Turn What Scares Us into Our Greatest Gift. His INTRApersonal Therapy methods are used extensively by out-patient and residential eating disorder treatment programs in the U.S. and Australia. Cheryl Kerrigan Presents: Telling Ed NO! | This month's teleconference topic is “Telling Ed No!”, which of course is one of our favorite topics here on MentorCONNECT. To present on this powerful topic, we are especially excited to welcome one of MentorCONNECT’s own Leadership Team directors, Cheryl Kerrigan. Cheryl Kerrigan is an author, speaker and eating disorder survivor. She is the author of “Telling ED NO! and Other Practical Tools to Conquer Your Eating Disorder and Find Freedom”. She is also a contributing author to multiple eating disorder recovery books and to getridofed.blogspot.com, a weekly recovery blog. Cheryl “brings recovery to life” by speaking regularly about her experiences at schools and treatment centers around the country. As I mentioned, she also serves on MentorCONNECT’s leadership board, but in addition to that, Cheryl also serves as a mentor herself to individuals who are working their way through the recovery process. Cheryl’s story is a shining example to all of us for how to turn a life challenge into a true triumph AND a way to ‘pay it forward’ to help others.
