MMM Commentary for Marco Polo – Episode 1 (The Roof of the World) | MMM is proud to bring you our continuing series of commentary tracks from Season 1 of Doctor Who. This week starts our look at the fourth ever story of Doctor Who – Marco Polo. Bit of a tricky one this one. A bit of a first for MMM – this is the first time ever we have done a commentary for a story that has never had an official release, anywhere. It’s a missing story you see, the BBC decided in their wisdom to get rid of it. But luckily some enterprising chaps took many photos of the actual video when it existed, and a lot of other enterprising chaps made audio recordings of the episodes. Put them together and you have a missing episode reconstruction, which you can quite easily get hold of if you are handy with a particular type of search engine and know how to type in the words Marco Polo. So please, source out one of the many excellent reconstructions of Marco Polo then join along with the MMM team. | 5/16/12 | Free | View In iTunes |

MMM Commentary for Breaker Morant | MMM is proud to present a commentary track for a film that not a lot of people know about, but a a film that a lot of people should. During the Boer War, three Australian lieutenants are on trial for shooting Boer prisoners. Though they acted under orders, they are being used as scapegoats by the General Staff, who hopes to distance themselves from the irregular practices of the war. The trial does not progress as smoothly as expected by the General Staff, as the defence puts up a strong fight in the courtroom. It is a truly powerful film, which not only shows the brutality of war, but the unfairness and inequity of war. Starring Edward Woodward, and directed by Bruce Beresford with a star studded supporting cast of Jack Thompson, Bryan Brown and John Waters. Participants David, Geoff, Gecko and Tony take you through this landmark film in Australian cinema history, Breaker Morant. | 2/10/12 | Free | View In iTunes |

MMM Commentary: Star Trek (2009) | We keep the ball rolling with a commentary on a movie with the word star in it. Not sure exactly how long we can keep that particular sphere in motion but let’s give it a crack. This week the MMM team wax lyrical about the Star Trek movie that pretty well impressed us all this year, the originally titled Star Trek. Just Star Trek. No roman numerals in sight with this baby (though if you are keeping score at home we are up to XI). JJ Abrams takes us on a journey to a galaxy far far… no that is not right. He takes us on a journey slap bang on our own doorstep as he pits the Enterprise crew against the evil Nero (what is it with the obsession with sandal-related names today?). The MMM team of Trevor, Geoff, Tony and one slightly asleep Gecko take us through a film which will hopefully put Star Trek right back up there. Star Trek – the movie that proves you can still have your canon and eat it too. | 12/19/09 | Free | View In iTunes |

MMM Commentary: Star Wars – Clone Wars – Rising Malevolence | What better way to celebrate our yearly look at Star Wars than to give you lucky people even more Star Wars commentaries in the month of November? Fresh from the 2005 Clone Wars series, the MMM Team decided to tackle some episodes from the new Clone Wars series. We delved back into Season 1 of this superb series and began our journey with one of the episodes that put this fledgling series on the map – Rising Malevolence. The Jedi are up against the evil Grevious and Count Dooku and a sinister new super-weapon. A ship capable of rendering any vessel inactive with its awesome ion cannon. MMM Commentary: Star Wars – Clone Wars, Volume 2 | It wouldn’t be November in the MMM Caravan if we didn’t release something to do with Star Wars. It’s a tradition that stretches back many years to the great day of the Star Wars Marathon, where we watched all six Star Wars films in one sitting. So this month we are proud to bring you Clone Wars – Volume 2. Last year we did Volume 1, so it seemed the sensible thing to do to bring a close to this 2005 animated series set between Attack of the Clones and Revenge of the Sith. Trevor, David, Gecko and Geoff pour over this colourful Star Wars offering and offer our thoughts. | 11/21/09 | Free | View In iTunes |

Different in so many ways, yet alike in so many others, Stargate Universe is a fascinating new chapter into Gate-lore. Are they any good? Is it worth watching the next episode? Let MMM be your guide into the murky world of new television shows. Podcast #91: He’s not dead yet! | Well, what would a last hurrah! for our regular series of podcasts be without a shameless, self-aggrandizing multi-episode foray into our favourite Doctor Who episodes? We found, much to our surprise (or perhaps we knew it all along!) that one episode wasn’t enough to rattle on about Doctor Who’s finest moments, so we return for another episode of memories and favourites. Join, as usual, the Fantragic super team, Trevor, Geoff, Tony and Gecko as we continue our journey through the Doctor Who Oeuvre! | 11/7/09 | Free | View In iTunes |

MMM Commentary: Warehouse 13 – Pilot (part of our MMM Fresh Faces Project) | A new project at MMM for the next few releases – the MMM Fresh Faces Project no less! The MMM team has taken a look at a few of the new TV pilots that the US networks have seen fit to show us. Are they any good? Is it worth watching the next episode? Let MMM be your guide into the murky world of new television shows. The first one is Warehouse 13, brought to the screen by the Syfy Network. It involves two Secret Service agents who are unceremoniously drafted to a top secret installation called Warehouse 13 – the place the government puts all the weird and wonderful devices deemed to dangerous to be out in the world. Podcast #90: Fantragic is dead, long live Fantragic! (and MMM) | There have been a few changes here recently in the Fantragic caravan. So we felt it opportune to revisit the way we do things and re-evaluate what we want to do with our time in the caravan speaking into microphones. Most of you will know our sister site – mmmcommentaries.com. We do alternate DVD commentaries for a variety of genre films and TV series. We have decided to concentrate more fully on that, our first love. Now that doesn’t mean that Fantragic is disappearing, far from it. It will just be used for more special events, big announcements etc, or when the whim takes us to put one out. So we thank you all for sticking with us for this time, and hope that you still keep us bookmarked, in your feeds or whatever cause we will still be around. I hope in the meantime you will say with us at MMM. But we aren’t leaving you in the lurch just yet – when we talked about the changes to Fantragic we wanted to go out with a BANG! So, as is our want in the caravan, we returned to our first love, Doctor Who. Our listeners have asked on occasion what our favourite Doctor Who stories are. We have given tantalising glimpses, sneak peaks etc about what they might be but we have never laid our cards on the table and said what our favs are. That situation is rectified in this bumper episode of Fantragic. Trevor, Tony, Geoff and Gecko lay out for all to see what floats our boat in the Doctor Who universe. Wonder no more, dear listeners! | 10/22/09 | Free | View In iTunes |

MMM Commentary: The Dark Knight | After the enthusiastic and overwhelming response we received after doing the first Nolan/Bale epic, Batman Begins, we thought it time to return to this dark corner of our universe and cover the next film. A film even more side-splittingly morose and depressing than the first, but god damn, wasn’t it good? The MMM team are proud to bring to you the latest installment in the Bat’s universe. | 10/14/09 | Free | View In iTunes |

Podcast #89: Reinvention | Reinvention is something that is on all the minds of the Fantragic team this episode, with the new Doctor Who series under the reign of Moffatt to be unleashed upon us next year. It got us thinking about the whole concept of reinvention, how a show changes, for whatever reason, to suit a new audience. In this episode we discuss films and tv series and how they change and adapt to tackle the challenges of a new audience. Our Doctor Who Dump also takes a broad look at Doctor Who, and how it has changed over its long history to remain current, relevant to its audience. | 10/9/09 | Free | View In iTunes |

MMM Commentary: The Lord of the Rings – The Two Towers (MMM’s 100th commentary track!) | Return to the land of Mordor with the MMM as we tackle the next Lord of the Rings film, The Two Towers. As with our last Lord of the Rings commentary, we have used the theatrical cut of the film, not the DVD release. Like slipping on a pair of old moth eaten shoes (which is ironic considering hobbits don’t wear them) the team get back into talking about grimness, orcs, sword-weilding saviours and magical wizards. Come celebrate with the MMM team with this, our 100th commentary! | 9/24/09 | Free | View In iTunes |

Podcast #88: The Special Edition | Remakes, reduxes, re-releases, re-imaginings. Its part and parcel for anyone even slightly interested in our genre. Movies that get re-released, changed, vision inspired. In this episode of the Fantragic podcast we look at this very issue. We explore some of the triumphs and some of the tragedies in the remake, redux and re-editing arena. Our Doctor Who Dump is a story that is crying out for a re-edit, or even perhaps a casual losing of the master tapes – the 7th Doctor story Paradise Towers. The Stephen King move adaptation of his novel Misery gets the Nethers treatment. And add to that the regular fix of news and reviews – well, it business as usual for the Fantragic team! | 9/18/09 | Free | View In iTunes |

Podcast #87: Cliffhangers | In this episode of the Fantragic podcast, we look at all things cliffhangers. Our Doctor Who Dump looks at one of the most notorious Doctor Who episodes for really awful cliffhangers – The Space Pirates (yeah, we had to go look it up too – it is a real Doctor Who story, promise!). Speaking of cliffhangers, our Nether Regions explore the film which is all about cliffhangers, sorta, Stephen King’s indictment of fans and their expectations, Misery. And the team of course shares their favourite cliffhangers along the way. It’s all gold! | 9/6/09 | Free | View In iTunes |

MMM Commentary: Stargate SG-1 – 1969 | Now that all that nonsense with that mopey, angst-ridden Angel is all over, we can get to the good stuff. Whilst David and Tony sat in one room recording their commentaries for the Angel part of the two rooms project, Trevor and Geoff hunkered down in the comfy armchairs and revisited the world of rings, weapons that need to be fired three times and aliens with personal forcefields. Stargate SG-1 returns to the MMM fold! The first of our Two Rooms projects is the Season 2 episode, 1969, where a freak accident with the gate catapults the SG-1 team Star Trek-style back to 1969. So join Trevor and Geoff as we wade through copious references to Vietnam, hippies, drugs and peace, love and understanding. And yes, we know Teal’c is just like Spock from City on the Edge of Forever. | 8/19/09 | Free | View In iTunes |

Podcast #86: Welcome back the Star Trek haters | After our lengthy delve into the various quadrants of the Star Trek universe, its time to come back to Earth and look at something without pointed ears and nacelles. Episode #86 looks at many things – tv and film from the orient for a start. Monkey, that amazing egg-born cloud-riding superhero gets the Nether Regions treatment, and we also have a discussion about the anime that fired the imaginations of the Fantragic boys in their formative years. Our Doctor Who Dump is about that classic story, Talons of Weng Chiang… because…. ummm…. it has an oriental in it…. We talk about the latest DVD and movie releases, both past and future as well. MMM Commentary: Angel – The Trial | Another fortnight, another Angel-cast. From the darkest moments of Season Two, Tony and David return with an episode that was a trial in many forms. In Season Two, the directive was “Angel goes bad” . Resurrecting Darla seems to be working a treat even if he still has time to do laundry. But the stakes ( no pun) are lifted when the now mortal Darla discovers she is dying of an er social disease. Angel will turn over heaven and Earth to save her , but all he has to do is sire her again. But will he ever get that desperate. Angel is best when it’s all about the subtext and when it gives its viewer no easy options. Here we look at Angel’s ( pointless?)quest for redemption, the inevitabilty of Greek tragedy and the stages of confronting death. Plus there’s a tale from Francis of Assissi, a mention of a vital future villain and a hint of Ella Fitzgerald. Darla-devotee David lyricises about her multifarous manifestations, comedic stylings, soap opera hair tossing and some bloody good singing while we uncan that old worm lunch pail – who was the great love of Angel’s life? Plus of course there’s THAT ending….. Angel .. it’s an Irish tale, not an English one. | 8/5/09 | Free | View In iTunes |

Podcast #85: Which race is it that has the spotted feet and long toes? | The amazing Fantragic journey through the various quadrants of the Star Trek universe comes to an end with this podcast, where we delve into the more recent outings for the Federation and its friends. Voyager, whales, bald men and their girlfriends and head strong reimaginings of the franchise are the order of the day as we come up to date with what Star Trek has to offer. Its’s been a wild ride. But as long as we don’t have to talk about Riker’s beard any more, we are content. | 7/30/09 | Free | View In iTunes |

MMM Commentary: Angel – 5 by 5 | It’s Two Rooms time again: while Geoff and Trev journey through the StarGate, Tony and David visit the mire and despair of the City of Angels. “Five By Five” came in the middle of Angel’s all important first season as it tried to distance itself from that show about the cheer leader to become a defining show about urban angst , redemption and Olympic level brooding. The pleasant routine of Angel’ s scowling is disturbed by the arrival in LA of rogue Slayer Faith, soon embroiled in a contract with uber-law firm Wolfram and Hart to assassinate our dark clad vigilante. Faith goes pretty postal in her brutal efforts to lure Angel out, but what is her real agenda? And what does it have to do with Romania 1898? Tony and David make their first entry into the opaque vista of the Angel-verse to establish why THIS episode set the show on its own track, why we like Eliza Dust-Cover and what is with all those flashbacks. Plus we discuss why Faith works better on Angel, how important Cordy is while Tony teaches us how to prnounce Angelus and David reveals a secret about shooting the rain soaked finale that everyone else in the world already knew. If you believe it is better to be hated than ignored, this commentary is for you Angel .. contrary to opinion, it was not chosen cos Darla’s in it. | 7/22/09 | Free | View In iTunes |

Podcast #84: Everybody loves gagh | The second part of the incredible journey the Fantragic team are taking through over 40 years of Star Trek in its many flavours and forms. Last time, on Fantragic, we left you with Spock being grateful (in his own reserved way) to McCoy for hanging on to his mantra for him. This time we move beyond such shenanigans and move onto whales, bald men, trekless-Treks and wise word whilst making toast. It’s been a wonderful ride so far, continue with us as we punch up to Warp Factor 5 (we didn’t have authorisation from Starfleet to exceed that speed, sorry) and continue our look at Star Trek. | 7/16/09 | Free | View In iTunes |

MMM Commentary: Doctor Who – The Fires of Pompeii | You thought we had forgotten about Series 4, didn’t you?; Well, never fear. We were just waiting for this particular anniversary to roll around… ummm… which anniversary you say? Umm….; The 2nd anniversary of the morning RTD said “Hey, do any of you lovely boys want to go on a MARVELLOUS trip to Rome?”; And so The Fires of Pompeii was born! A story with psychics, revelations and… fire, it’s the obligatory historical (yet not historical) story for this season.; Trevor, Tony and Geoff (with David sniggering and sleeping in the background) take you through this, the first of two commentaries for stories from this last full season for the 10th Doctor, David Tennant.; The Fires of Pompeii – I mean with a name like Pyrovores where else are they going to be? | 6/24/09 | Free | View In iTunes |

MMM Commentary: Iron Man | When Iron Man hit the screens in 2008, he was a lesser known super hero who had not enjoyed neither a cinema career before hand nor a legendary origin talent nor been upstaged by an adversary played by Jack Nicholson ( “I told you…thirty million PLUS the toy concession or I don’t come Monday!”). In short, as far as cinema heroes, Mr Man was a bit of a cleanskin (no pun) In the opinion of MMM, that was a distinct advantage. The full MMM panel covers this bed wettingly popular film that impressed the hell out of millions who had never heard the ‘pepper”potts joke before. Robert Downey Jr is on fire, pretty hard with all that scotch in you, and Messrs Favreau, Bridges and Mrs Martin are also doing a great job in this very fresh take on the man who becomes a marauding machine. Learn about Iron’s comic book origins, spot the three forgettable uses of the old TV theme tune and see if you agree that the Stan Lee cameos are reaching thier use by date. Naturally, it all gets a bit egghead at times with the old classics like “surrogate father figure”, “a post 9/11 view of the world’ and “a hero needs friends”. On the other hand, there’s plenty of talk about Back In Black, boozing it up and, of course, pole dancing hostesses. Tune in as MMM discusses Iron Man: The Hedonists Redemption Iron Man: Icarus he ain’t but the robot hands are cute. | 6/3/09 | Free | View In iTunes |

Podcast #81: It’s All About God, You Know | The boys are in review mode this fortnight as they tackle the recent release of the Doctor Who stories The Romans and the Rescue on shiny DVD. See what the caravan consensus is on Doctor Who in the days before the sonic screwdriver. We also tackle the end of Battlestar Galactica, and try and find out in sentences of 15,000 words or less just what the hell that ending was all about. Allusions to scrabble, unlikely angels and telekinesis abound! This is the first part of a massive recording session we undertook, which was originally to include even more podcasting goodness. The decision was made to split it up into two podcasts, the second of which will reach your ears in a fortnight’s time. | 5/23/09 | Free | View In iTunes |

MMM Commentary: Doctor Who – The Curse of Fenric (movie version) | MMM continues the trip down Sylvester lane with our second movie-length opus – Curse of Fenric. Similar to Battlefield – which means it has another mustachioed military figure, lots of continuity and of course a sighting of Pepsi The Dog. Fenric was much admired and analysed on release and many years later the boys analyse what it all meant, where it was all going and was the “risque” sex scene really worth it? ( a second hand isn’t that fast anyway – maybe that’s the point!) We really like a lot of this era and Fenric is a particular favourite – but real rain still looks better than the old garden hose. MMM Commentary: Doctor Who – Terror of the Zygons, part 3 | MMM wraps up Terror of the Zygons with a visit to the World Energy Conference. The final two episodes of the Scottish (tele)play are here. With the Skaresan unleashed and the Zygons’ identity exposed, all roads lead to Forgill castle with its menacing library steps. But in a swift one-two-three the Doctor disposes of the Zygons, Broton and the Monster before you can say “the PM is a woman”. MMM has a great time wrapping up a great story that attracts equal comment for its nostalgia value and its very dubious creature. MMM Commentary: Doctor Who – Terror of the Zygons, part 1 | Warm yourself by a roaring porridge while you watch the opening two episodes of Terror of the Zygons. Enjoy the Dr Who production teams effort to cram every possible cod Scottish cliche into one story. In 1975, Zygons represented a changing of the guard as the Letts UNIT family gave way to the Hinchcliffe “family” which consisted of rotting monsters attacking you with pitchforks. In Terror of the Zygons UNIT gets a last hurrah ( for now) while spooky music, horrific creatures, Gothic houses and realistic violence crashes across the screen like a spider in concrete boots. Certain MMM members make no secret of their conviction that these changes were for the best and the Terror of the Zygons ushers in a great, and gory , new era. MMM discusses the nature of the Zygon costumes (what do they remind YOU of?), the very scary nurse and the invisible “Invisible TARDIS ” scene. Plus lots of discussion of John Woodnutt, Douglas Camfield and a certain Goodies episode set in a country near Scotland. Download and enjoy. MMM Commentary: Doctor Who – Terror of the Autons, part 1 | The MMM Terror-vision begins with the Jon Pertwee plastic classic – Terror of the Autons. Part 1 of this exciting four part story is released today, with Part 2 being available early next week. Way back in 1971, Barry Letts rescued our beloved show from certain cancellation and worked to make the new season more family friendly. This was achieved by including lots of murders, killer policemen, a lead character who looked like Satan and a story so violent it was questioned in the House of Lords. Some family – unless it was the Mansons. MMM are proud to present the first two episodes of one of the most controversial stories of all time that features suffocation, asphyxiation, elevation and maybe even castration. And we haven’t even got to the CSO. Tony, Trev, David and Geoff return to the 70s and cover such vital issues as Katy Manning’s rings, the Doctor’s mysterious stair case and boiled eggs. We ask the vital questions such as “How easy is it to punch out Mike Yates”?” What is Roger Delgado’s real name?” and “Would you cook in a CSO kitchen”? Tune in soon for the exciting daffodil enriched finale. | 2/4/09 | Free | View In iTunes |

MMM Commentary: The West Wing – Twenty Five | It is the last West Wing commentary for now and by the end of Season Four we were without Sorkin, Sam and nearly the White House after the events of the THE 25th. As he predicted four years ago, Bartlet endures the horror of his daughter’s kidnapping. While the White House deals with the crisis, Toby faces the arrival of his children with a grimness only he can muster (not just about their names) and the President faces the dilemma the only way he can – by standing down in favour of Roseanne’s husband! The most dramatic series cliffhanger so far, the show has MMM discussing the legality of Leo’s role, the way fathers are depicted on TV and the dramatic possibilities for Season Five (most not taken up). Plus Tony worries whether Emilio Estevez was paid for a flashback scene, Trev names his surprise favourite character and David considers whether there isn’t an obvious kidnapping suspect everyone is overlooking. The West Wing – good enough for Taye Diggs. | 1/22/09 | Free | View In iTunes |

MMM Commentary: The West Wing – US Poet Laureate | Otherwise known as the Laura Dern one. If you hadn’t noticed, the West Wing was never exactly a yuk-fest but this third series episode was more light-hearted than most without cranking up a laugh track. On the campaign trail, an off-mike quip by the President about his opponent’s brain size seems to do more good than harm. Toby’s heart (and frown) is a-racing when he must dissuade the Poet Laureate from speaking out about landmines and Josh makes the error of contributing to a fan-based website! Horrors! The MMM team tackles Season Three and key issues like Toby’s seduction technique ( such as it is) life in the aluminum siding business and whether it is a good idea to have a President who is Barbra Steisand’s husband (Crime.. gee I don’t know) Plus, how important is intellect to leadership? Should artists comment on politics and just how crazy are people on the Net? We said it was light but there is a lot to see in this story- the only one to feature two Jurassic Park stars. The West Wing – stop blaming Sam. | 1/15/09 | Free | View In iTunes |

MMM Commentary: The West Wing – In the Shadow of the Gunmen, part 1 | Only time for the first part for now – but this was the dramatic opener to Series Two which was made in the shadow of two cliches – the assassination attempt and the flashback show. In the chaos after Rosslyn, the President is down but so is Josh. As the Joint Chiefs contemplate a possible attack by a man called bin Laden, the staff recall how they first came together on the campaign trail when things weren’t too hot and Bartlet speeches came with free jelly. Meanwhile, the President hasn’t signed a note for the VP and his latent health problems may come out… See how you think the President looks in a hospital gown and catheter. The Mandyville legend begins and the WW does the first of many way back when tales. MMM looks at the 25th Amendment as only three Australians can and examines the epiphanies of three characters. And Jane Lynch is in it. The West Wing – you will NEVER forget to sign a note. | 1/8/09 | Free | View In iTunes |

MMM Commentary: The West Wing – Let Bartlet be Bartlet | Halfway through Season One and the Bartlet presidency is, to quote Sam Seaborn, “nowhere”. The President’s inertia has led to a “let’s dangle our feet” mentality that has the team taking on several major issues (gays in the military, electoral contributions ) knowing there isn’t a shot in the chamber. With that dreaded nemesis, “the piece of paper” floating around and a major drop in the polls, it is time for Leo to have it out with the President. MMM returns to the West Wing with the first of four Sorkin-era commentaries. Join Trev, Tony and David as they discuss the causes of the President’s plight, what it has to do with THE AMERICAN PRESIDENT and just HOW do you spell his name. We also cover why Mandy left the show via becoming Donna and what it all has to do with Battlestar Galactica. | 1/6/09 | Free | View In iTunes |

Podcast #73: The Land of Haggis and the good stuff | We visit the land of kilts in this episode of the the podcast, and take a short stop by stop motion animation along the way. Our Nether Regions cover that most scottish of films, Highlander, with a Scotsman who isn’t a Scotsman, a european who isn’t a European, but a director who is happy to be called Australian. The Doctor Who Dump ventures further into Scotland, with that most excellent of Tom Baker stories, Terror of the Zygons. And in tribute to the use of stop motion animation in this 70s tale, Tony takes us through the once common art of producing animated beasties. Now lost to the button pushers and their computers, stop motion animation though still has its place in a modern special effects world. | 12/4/08 | Free | View In iTunes |

MMM Commentary: Star Wars – Clone Wars, Volume 1 | After a few quiet years, 2008 was the time when Star Wars became once more ahem animated In recognition of the Clone Wars film (is it a film?) and TV show MMM turns its eyes to a long time ago in an animation studio far far away: the original Clone Wars (gee that name turns up a lot) series for the Cartoon Network. In three to five minute bites, the check-shirted One and his acolytes filled in the blanks on the attritic war between the Republic and the Separatists when Anakin wasn’t such a bad guy, IG-88 was still a steel sapling and Obi-Wan was trying out the latest in armour-cape combinations. Being an MMM Star Wars commentary there is plenty of discussion of the nature of the animation, the hero’s story arc and the logistical importance of the Clone Wars story line. Of course there’s time for topics like: Who does Dooku root for in battle? Why don’t the Jedi just push planets into the Sun and is it racist that the most dangerous jobs always fall to Mace. But we know him as The Devil. Mr Devil to his friends. Podcast #72 delves into all things dark and malovent, as we look at the ultimate evil. MMM Commentary: MMM Vanity Project 4 – Heat | Warning – this commentary does contain some inappropriate language. The film itself also is an R Rated film in many countries. After a mysterious three months MMM completes the Vanity Projects with Trev’s cobalt gem – Michael Mann’s Heat. Since 1995, Trev has seen this azure masterpiece an obscene number of times and even wanted to call one of his children Waingro. This makes him the perfect guide to the 160+ minute journey through the underworld of LA as two cinematic heavyweights try to act each other off the strontium tinted screen. Join Trev and the MMM team as they wax rhapsodic about how Mann avoids the usual cop film cliches, assembles a stellar cast and discharges weapons in the steets with gay abandon. The MMM team wrestles with conundra such as: why is Amy Brenneman talking in that accent? how great is the diner scene really? when did Trejo (Machete) go traitor and of course the old stand-by the homo-erotic subtext ( oh-er) .Trev also tells you about the original TV-version LA Takedown and how much made its way into the film version. The upshot was Geoff, Tony, Gecko and David all agreed with Trev that it was a bloody good film. See if you agree. | 11/12/08 | Free | View In iTunes |

MMM Commentary: MMM Vanity Project 3 – The Hunt for Red October | MMM takes you under the thermocline for Hunt For Red October – Geoff’s project de jour. By 1990 Tom Clancy novels were selling by the truckload and millions of fans awaited each one. Geoff was not one of those people…but he became one after this film. MMM Commentary: MMM Vanity Project 2 – The Blues Brothers | It was night and we were wearing sunglasses. Truth is, as a cult website it would be remiss of MMM to ignore one of the most mainstream cult hits of all time: car chases, pile ups, Minnie the Moocher and cameos galore all backed up by Chicago locations in AD 1980 (i.e. after Daley). MMM changes tack and turns up the volume as we go back to the days when John Belushi and John Landis ruled the cinema and where Carrie Fisher was that chick from Star Wars. Learn about the third Blues Brother, the invisible band member and how they did that mall scene. And if you think you spotted Steven Spielberg at the the finale, hang on for one more guest appearance over the closing credits. That’s right, we are flying without a pilot, steering without a rudder, and running without…. um…. running things on. But in a podcast with nothing to talk about, we manage to cover a multitude of topics, some of which are below (in no particular order) Happy Days Batman Stargate DVD cuts What we have seen at the movies Secrets revealed and so much more! We also introduce another convert to the tragedy that is Fantragic – our good and long-time friend Gecko – DVD lover extraordinaire, and self-acknowledged world expert on the British TV show, The Bill. MMM Commentary: MMM Vanity Project 1 – Planet of the Apes (1968) | MMM grows up and branches out into the much sizzled Vanity Projects. Each month one of the team brings you a pearl from their past, a favourite film from their trove. Tony starts the eyes rolling with the original Planet of the Apes. As a life long fan of simian sci-fi Tony is in a unique position to comment not only on this film but the entire Ape phenomena that preceded the Star Wars craze of the 70s. With a little help from the rest of the team , Tony takes you through the transition from Pierre Boulle’s French monkey novel to the silver screen. Find out how the oringial concept was altered, especially when Twlight Zone creator Rod Serling became involved, see why Fox thought no one would go to see it, and who were original choices to play the Apes? See how the turbulent events of the late 60s made it into the film and what different endings were tossed around before the one we have damned us all to hell. Plus of course the usual MMM blather about Heston’s loin cloth and possible roles for Stan Lee. Join Tony and the rest for MMM’s visit to a madhouse (a madhouse!). MMM Commentary: Blake’s 7 – Blake | The final chapter of the Blakes Seven fourplay with an episode that, big surprise, features the title charcter. With their rebel alliance in tatters, like everything in else in series four, Avon plays the last card up his gauntletted sleeve – the location of the legendary Blake. Trouble is Blake seems to have gone a little Boba Fett, and is hunting down people for the Federation. Is he having a senior moment or has his cheese fallen off the cracker (to quote Tony) Whatever, the consequences are cataclysmic and as Blakes Seven reaches its titanic conclusion tv sci-fi will never be the same. MMM revisit this epochal episode. Find out why Blake has an eye problem. Why does Scorpio bite the dust? Was this really meant to be IT? (Trev recommends counting blaster bolts). And how is the final blood bath a family affair? MMM gives you the the alternate view. Geoff poses us the question, what in sci-fi has inspired you or made you think about the world in a different way? While not exactly enlightening in itself, the Doctor Who story to come under our gaze this time is the Peter Davison frock-fest Enlightenment. MMM Commentary: Blake’s 7 – Terminal | Trev’s greatest hour, or one of them came with this sensational climax to the third season of Blake’s Seven. End of season cliffhangers had become part and parcel of the show but this is the story that really shook the fans up. Trev was one of those fans and he still shakes today (but that may be the vertical hold). When Avon takes the Liberator to a secret the location the rest of the crew are puzzled and suspicious. But his final goal shocked everyone. Meanwhile an apparently innocuous space cloud brings a threat that takes the greatest casualty so far. And what has it all to do with Servelan? MMM follows Trev down memory lane with this return to the land of the Links. Find out what was in the wind for Servelan and Avon in the future. See if you agree with the team’s description of Avon’s “fatal flaw” and look for 2001 rip offs. Podcast #66: Water | Things get slightly damp in the Fantragic caravan this episode as Tony takes over and organises the programming duties and guides our podcast through its paces. We take a dive deep, deep underwater in our Nether Regions segment and geek out over James Cameron’s soggy opus, The Abyss. The chant is rising in our Doctor Who dump segment, as we all bow down before an unconvincing guy in a rubber suit and cry out “Kroll, Kroll, Kroll!”. The Power of Kroll (or as Tony likes to call it The Caves of Androzani) comes under our gaze. We are late to the party, but what the heck, the Fantragic team adds their opinion to the already scarily high mountain of opinion on The Dark Knight. And the boys finally complete our look at the various strands of Doctor Who book out there for you to spend your hard earned on – take a walk down amnesia lane as we fondly recollect the non-fiction books that we have bought The referenc books read from cover to cover, then read again and again and again over the years.
