Mobile Reach – Show #1 – Putting you on the Spot! | EdReach’s newest podcast focused on Mobile Learning, iOS and Android, and helping find the best apps for education! Mobile Reach is the transition of the IEAR podcsast into a little broader field. This episode is “Putting you on the Spot!” as that was what Scott mentioned at least 10 times! Mobile Reach moving forward is going to be Judi Epcke, Chad Kafka, Tammy Lind and Scott Meech. This week we had a great guest, Mr. Henry Finch from Tulsa, Oklahoma. We talked about his work with ADEsontheweb.com. Segment One: True Mobile Learning / Blog Watch / Tweets / News A lot of people talk about Mobile Learning and assume that means Mobile Devices. These are not mutually exclusive? Should education be careful with making this distinction? What are your thoughts on QR codes and schools? Useful? Fad? —————————————— Segment Two: iOS Updates / Blog Watch / Tweets / News Regardless of the best apps available, we need to recognize all that these devices do. Have you come across negative reviews of these devices in schools simply because there isn’t a perfect (example) 3rd grade language arts app focused on Spelling? Apple’s New Policy for Reviewing Apps on the App Store http://appenthusiast.blogspot.com/2011/05/breaking-news-apples-new-policy-for.html - - No author listed but from the App Enthusiast Blog Now, it is no longer possible to rate or review an app if it was downloaded using a developer’s promo code. This change seems to have been in place for the past 2-3 weeks, but it’s getting more and more consistent now. This change will affect how developers would distribute their promo codes now. With this new policy in place, giving away codes in the various forums/contests would not get them anywhere, not even a good review on the App Store. [JE] (Looks like iEAR is still a great place for app developers to share app codes with consumers and get an unbiased review) —————————————— Segment Three: Android Updates / Blog Watch / Tweets / News (I can share these next week if you would rather) TL Where is Android and education? Will the two meet? We won’t cover this entire topic but I want to tease out that we are interested in keeping an eye on this market! Android now has more free apps available than Apple. Is this significant? HTC Evo 3D available in June can be preordered from Best Buy–do we want general updates like this or only ed-related? (TL) Android Apps to run on Blackberry Playbook. Demo to be shared at Blackberry World in Orlando this week (TL) https://market.android.com/apps/Education – Education apps (CK) —————————————— Segment Four: App Reviews (Round Robin depending on Time) (This segment is very loose and we just want to be prepared at the time of the podcast). Explore 9/11 (Free) – in light of the events of this week, sharing an app that’s good teaching tool for students to learn about the events (CK) – if too “down” of a topic, we don’t have to do http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/explore-9-11/id387986451?mt=8 Comic Life Comes to iPad!
