Au Contrare, My Contrarian!
Though David Noftz claims the views he expresses on Modern Woodshop are contrary (and possibly a bit cynical) to what is considered the norm in wood working today, it would be more accurate to say he presents some old-school wisdom to this new generation of ‘digital woodworkers’. Like his peers –The Woodwhisperer, Matt’s Basement Workshop, and This Week in Wood, Mr. Noftz has quickly cemented his place as one of the new “Norm Abrams” of the podcasting world. Even though this is only an audio podcast at this point, David is able to clearly describe the techniques and methods he uses to conduct his craft. AND he’s able to do it with a wit (and sarcasm!) that makes it enjoyable to listen to whether you are a professional woodworker or beginning hobbyist. I hope he is able to keep it up and continue to give a fresh (but wise) perspective on this old craft. Pete Bretzke Maple Valley, WA
Great audio woodworking
This podcast is loaded with good advice and really got me a step further in my hobby.
Noftz Musings on Woodworking
David Noftz is a very comfortable speaker who presents his thoughts on trends, products and tendencies of the Woodworking hobby. Modern Woodshop is not a "Woodworking 101" show, an interview show, or a project based show. It would be more aptly named "Noftz's Musings on Woodworking". The audio quality and Noftz's preparation for each episode are very good. My only criticism is that Noftz can sometimes ramble on about his life outside the wood shop or reiterate himself once too many, but that is a minor criticism for an otherwise thoughtful and well presented podcast. I also appreciate that Noftz doesn't rely on or pander to sponsors to keep issuing episodes or to maintain his website. This is altruism at its best.
