Daily Devotional Entry 220 - "First Century Pop Song" | People tend to gravitate towards things that are upbeat and positive; that’s the way we like our friends., that’s the way we like our politics, and that’s the way we like our theology. Maybe that’s why the following first century worship hymn has been so completely overlooked by today’s churches. Here is 2 Tim 2:11-13 “This is a faithful saying: For if we died with Him, We shall also live with Him. If we endure, We shall also reign with Him. If we deny Him, He also will deny us. If we are faithless, He remains faithful; He cannot deny Himself.” The symmetrical form, and rhythmical balance of the lines above, makes it very likely that these words formed part of an early Church hymn or an accepted theological formula. Therefore, this little poem is a unique and exceptional portion of the New Testament. So then… how come I wanted to skip it this morning? How come this little passage is not a favorite among believers today? It’s short. It’s concise and easy to memorize. It’s Biblical. Shouldn’t this be a very popular and widely quoted section of the New Testament? Why haven’t the words of this ancient ditty been filling worship choruses in recent decades? Why haven’t we slapped this thing on a bumper sticker or Christian greeting card? I’ll tell you why – It’s that one line right in the middle of an otherwise happy stanza. “If we deny Him, He will also deny us”. We are ok with that type of language when it comes to some wicked unbeliever, but right in the middle of a poem meant for the church – no thank you! We want to keep things encouraging. We like to keep it positive. But, come on people; let’s keep it real – Biblical truth is not always popular EVEN IN THE CHURCH (even among those who do consistent morning devotions!). IF we love positive scriptural truth, then we should love this one; If we, the folks in the pews, the people in the service, deny the Lord Jesus by the way we live - He will deny us. The apostle Paul seems very positive about that. So, you can bust out the bumper stickers and strike up the band, but I don’t think this first century pop song has any hope of being popular in today’s church. I’m pretty positive about that. | 11/20/07 | Free | View In iTunes |

Daily Devotional Entry 219 - "What Are You Willing to Do?" | Remember those ice cream commercials that posed the question, “What would you do for a Klondike bar?” Would you dance like a chicken? Would you kiss a monkey? How much are you willing to endure in obtaining a stick full chocolaty frozen deliciousness? Forget the ice cream. Let me ask you this, what would you do for a million dollars? I suggest that you would do more for a cool million than you would for cool cream. Would you dance like a chicken? Sure you would. Would you kiss a monkey? Hard and on the mouth – absolutely. Ok. One more question. What would you be willing to endure in order to bring salvation in Christ Jesus to those God has chosen? Before you answer, let’s hear what the Apostle Paul would say to such a question. 2 Tim 2:10 “I am willing to endure anything if it will bring salvation and eternal glory in Christ Jesus to those God has chosen.” (NLT) For Paul, rescuing people from judgment and eternal death by pointing them toward Christ was the most important issue in his life; more important than frozen treats, more important than a million dollars. Bringing light to those in darkness was the task assigned to him by God and therefore Paul was willing to endure anything to see it accomplished. QUESTION: What is the task that God has assigned to you? Are you willing to suffer in order to see it accomplished? Moms, dads, husbands, wives, students, young adults - Are you willing to endure and do the hard work that it will take to be obedient to God? What a person is willing to endure for an ice cream bar is an entertaining question. (Who doesn’t want to see someone kiss a chimp? That’s just good television.) But, what a person is willing to endure in order to be obedient to their God given task, well, that is the most important question you will ever be asked. So, go ahead - ask yourself. | 11/19/07 | Free | View In iTunes |

Daily Devotional Entry 218 - "Be the Farmer" | The world is not overly impressed with the life and occupation of farmers. The work of a farmer is seldom glamorous, and often tedious. And therefore, with the exception of the elderly McDonald and that one guy “in the dell”, there really aren’t many famous farmers. Seriously, when was the last time you saw a farmer on the cover of People Magazine? But while the world may take for granted those who work the soil, the Holy Spirit lifts up the Farmer as an example for believers to emulate. Here is 2 Tim 2:6 “The hardworking farmer must be first to partake of the crops.” The farmer is an example for believers in two ways: #1 Farmers work hard. We, as servants of the living God, should work hard at cultivating righteousness, love and care for the lowly. The work ethic of the farmer is something to be admired and imitated. Don’t be a lazy Christian; serve, study, pray and serve some more. The farmer’s sofa still looks new. The farmer’s television is dusty and cool to the touch. (Ya, get me?) #2 Farmers get to eat what they plant. Who’s the first one to enjoy the best of the strawberries? The strawberry farmer. Who’s the first one to enjoy the sweetest of the watermelons? The melon farmer. Plant and cultivate kindness, faithfulness, justice and mercy for others and you will be the first to enjoy them at your own table. And this, my over-all wearing friend, will make all the hard work worth it. So …“Hi-Ho The Dairy-O” and “E-I-E-I-O” the farmer is to be an example to the followers of Christ. Work hard and get ready to eat what you plant. Serve, serve here – love, love there. You get the idea. | 11/16/07 | Free | View In iTunes |

Daily Devotional Entry 217 - "Stay in Your Lane" | It’s the big race. You are signed up, suited up and limbered up, ready to run. Allow me to share a short reminder from the Apostle Paul in 2 Tim 2:5 “…If anyone competes in athletics, he is not crowned unless he competes according to the rules.” It’s not enough to be assigned a lane and a number. You may be fast of foot, but if you violate the rules of the game you’re done. You may have filled out the proper entry forms, you may be clothed in the proper uniform, but if you take off before the pop of the gun, if you trip the person in front of you, or if you zigzag out of your lane – you, my friend, are a disqualified loser. Here is the point Paul was trying to get across to Timothy: What is true in the athletic event is also true in the church. You may be a regular attender, you might be a frequent giver and a consistent bible reader but on the Day when Christ returns you will not be crowned unless you have competed according to the rules. “What rules?”, you may ask. Honesty, integrity, holiness, humility– just to name a few. You have heard it said, “It’s not whether you win or lose, it’s how you play the game.” But I say to you, “Whether you win or lose will be determined by how you play the game. And winning is everything!” Please don’t misunderstand me. We will not earn our entrance into the Kingdom by our own integrity and holiness. (You cannot be good enough to earn your way to heaven; the Cross says that we need a sacrifice and a savior.) What I am saying is that many people mistakenly think that simply wearing church the uniform, associating with other Christian racers and hanging out around the Gatorade is all it takes to be a part of the family of God. But the truth is, this: whether or not we are one day crowned will have little to do with the fact that we ran, and everything to do with the manner in which we ran. So, run well. Compete according to the rules of holiness, honesty, integrity and humility and you will one day receive a crown of glory. | 11/14/07 | Free | View In iTunes |

Daily Devotional Entry 216 - "A Good Soldier" | A soldier’s life is not glamorous, comfortable or easy. Lousy food, heavy loads, sleepless nights, combat, injury, danger and death – these are the burdens born by the shoulders of those who wear the uniform. A good soldier doesn’t complain. A good soldier, despite fatigue and opposition, fights on and persists no matter what the cost. A good soldier does not expect to be pampered, but instead understands that bombs, bullets and injury are all part of the job. 2 Tim 2:3 “You therefore must endure hardship as a good soldier of Jesus Christ.” The life of a Christ follower is not glamorous, comfortable or easy. Heavy loads, sleepless nights, combat, injury, danger and death – these are the burdens born by the shoulders of those who call themselves servants of the King. A good Christian doesn’t complain. A good Christian, despite fatigue and opposition, fights on and persists no matter what the cost. A good Christian does not expect to be pampered, but instead understands that difficulty, struggle and challenge are all part of the job. Don’t give up. Don’t whine. Press on. Daily Devotional Entry 215 - "Trust and Knowledge, Knowledge and Trust" | There are some people you can trust because you know them. There are other people you cannot trust because you know them. Trust stems from the knowledge of a person (or thing’s) integrity, strength or ability. Mistrust stems from the knowledge of a person lack of integrity, strength or ability. Speaking on the subject of trust, the Apostle Paul, in 2 Tim 1:12b, wrote this about the Lord Jesus, “I know whom I have believed and am persuaded that He is able to keep what I have committed to Him until that Day.” Paul knew his master well and, based upon that knowledge, Paul trusted his King implicitly. The apostle invested and entrusted his entire life into the serving God’s only begotten Son because he knew who Jesus was and all He had done. Question: Are you trusting Christ with your life today? Are you investing in and committed to His Kingdom? Or, are you holding back? If you are reserved in your commitment, if you are reluctant to give Him your “all”, perhaps you do not know Him as well as you should. To know Him is to trust Him. The more you know the Savior, the more persuaded you will be that He is able to keep, and never lose, what is committed to Him. Let’s make it our aim to know Jesus well; spending time with Him, talking to Him, listening to Him. Confidence in His ability to keep what we have committed to Him stems from the knowledge of who He is and what He’s done – so let’s make it our life’s passion to know Him and make Him known. | 11/12/07 | Free | View In iTunes |

Daily Devotional Entry 214 - "Brought to Light" | It was in the shadows, difficult to see. The enigmatic darkness of the grave had obstructed humanity’s view. But in a single, cosmos changing, event – the Son of Man stepped from the recesses of a now impotent tomb and brought with Him what had been hidden for so long; life and immortality. Here is 2 Timothy 1:10b “…Our Savior Jesus Christ… has abolished death and brought life and immortality to light through the gospel” No more guessing. No more wondering. Immortality is real and attainable and clearly revealed by the one who broke death’s icy grasp. Want to live? Really live? Want to experience the true life that your soul has desperately hoped exists? Follow Jesus, the conqueror of death. Live for Him. Love for Him. Don’t give up. Do not grow faint. What was in the shadows and difficult to see has been brought to light and made plain. Life and immortality are the possessions of those who will follow the eternal King. So follow hard. | 11/1/07 | Free | View In iTunes |

Daily Devotional Entry 213 - "He Chose the Difficult Thing" | You want to demonstrate your physical strength. In order to do so you must find something heavy and then display your ability to lift it. You can’t show off your power by hoisting a ladybug or a marshmallow. It has to be something weighty like …a Volkswagen. You want to demonstrate your skills in the kitchen. In order to do so you must create a dish that tastes delicious, looks fantastic and is complicated in structure. You can’t show off your culinary prowess by boiling up some Top Ramen. It has to be something impressive like… Lobster Flambé. Want to impress, want to really show off your chops? Choose to do the difficult thing; lift and streetcar instead of a toy car - make a thanksgiving dinner instead of toast. And, if you really want to show the world your ability to forgive, restore and radically change lives, then find the most retched sinners you can and turn them into a holy nation of priests. Here is 2 Timothy 1:9 “For God saved us and called us to live a holy life. He did this, not because we deserved it, but because that was his plan from before the beginning of time—to show us his grace through Christ Jesus.” God wanted to show the world the power of His grace. So, He chose you and me. What does that say about us? I’ll tell you what it says; we are the Volkswagen and not the marshmallow, we are the Lobster Flambe’ and not Top Ramen. Saving us, and calling us to live a holy life, is God’s way of displaying His Amazing Grace. We have not been drawn into His family because we deserve it or have earned it. We were selected because making us holy is an extremely difficult thing to do and our Lord needs the world to know what He can accomplish with a broken life surrendered to Him. So let’s not make His task any harder than it already is. Let’s walk in holiness and self-control. Let’s completely surrender to serving the King who so loves to choose the difficult things – us. | 11/1/07 | Free | View In iTunes |

Daily Devotional Entry 211 - "Cookie Monster?" | You’re playing in the backyard with five of your friends. Mom steps out the back door and hands you a plate of twelve cookies. What do you do? Six for you and one for each of your buddies? Twelve for you and none for them? What do you think mom had in mind when she handed you twelve cookies in a yard with six kids? Perhaps mom was implying that resources are to be shared. And maybe she would go so far as to say, “Hoarding, unless you’re a squirrel, is a shameful thing”. Here is the Apostle Paul talking about rich people and how they should use their God given resources to serve others. And, by the way, he’s talking to you and me. Because if you are reading or listening to this devotion on a computer, (and you are) then you are in the top 10% of the wealthiest people on earth. So, as folks with a plate full of cookies, let’s pay attention to Paul who wrote to Timothy in 1 Tim 6:18, “Tell them to use their money to do good. They should be rich in good works and generous to those in need, always being ready to share with others.” Share what you have; time, money cookies. Whether you realize it or not, you have been given a lot. Use what you have for good. Hamsters hoard. Two year olds are stingy. But children of the living God give till it hurts. Kids of the King go out of their way to provide for others because they are overcome by the fact that God gave His Son for them. What are you doing with your cookies? Making excuses? “Well, they're really not very good” “I really don’t have that many.” “Lot’s of people have way more cookies than I do” Listen, one day soon we will stand before the great Baker in the Sky and give an account for what we did with the goodies he gave us. I don’t know about you, but I want to spend my life in the yard twisting apart Oreos with people who were not handed a plate of their own. | 10/31/07 | Free | View In iTunes |

Daily Devotional Entry 212 - "Fire Starter" | In our house, my wife is the fire starter. Matches, newspaper, logs – these are the tools of her trade. As winter descends, she will perch herself upon the family hearth and dazzle our children with her stunning ability to bring forth heat, comfort and light from the strike of a single match. She fans, she puffs, she tosses kindling about like playing cards at a Vegas casino. She will not settle for a small patch of flames – nothing less than a roaring inferno will do. She is unafraid. She is a fire starter. And so is our God. 2 Tim 1:6b,7 “…Fan into flames the spiritual gift God gave you when I laid my hands on you. For God has not given us a spirit of fear and timidity, but of power, love, and self-discipline.” God, through the Apostle Paul, started a spark in the heart of a young man named Timothy. And in today’s text, the Holy Spirit gives Timothy the directive to approach the spiritual ember within him and fan it into flame that will burn brightly for the King. Our God is a fire starter and has called us to embrace the family trade. He has placed within each of His followers a spark that has the ability to bring forth comfort and light to the world around us. Do not douse that spark with the water of fear and timidity. Do not quench the flame in your soul with trepidation and self-conscious insecurities. Do not hold back in your service to Christ. Throw a log on the fire! Go for it. What is it that makes you want to simply sit in the pew and keep your head down and your mouth shut? It’s not God. What is it that makes you want to keep your talents and passions to yourself? It’s not God. What is it that makes you think you have so little to offer the kingdom? It’s not God. God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind. Fan the spark, blow on the embers, add the spiritual kindling of time spent in God’s word and prayer. Do not settle for a small patch of flames – nothing less than a holy blaze will do. Be unafraid. Through holiness and service- be a fire starter. | 10/30/07 | Free | View In iTunes |

Daily Devotional Entry 210 - "Security?" | If you live in America then you live in the wealthiest nation on the planet. By comparison to the rest of the world we live lives of comfort and convenience. Even our poor people have cable TV. But consider this; our way of life and prosperous existence are not guaranteed. Economies and governments are fragile- just ask the folks in New Orleans. One terrorist smuggled nuclear bomb, or a couple of serious natural disasters, could change everything overnight. Most of us have no idea what it is like to live in extreme poverty, but my grandmother still saves the Styrofoam trays her ground beef comes on because she remembers a little thing called the Great Depression. To her, extreme poverty is not a third world problem but a first hand memory. She’s lived long enough to know that nothing is guaranteed. So what’s my point? I’ll let the Apostle Paul make it in 1 Timothy 6:17. Paul writes, “Teach those who are rich in this world not to be proud and not to trust in their money, which is so unreliable. Their trust should be in God, who richly gives us all we need for our enjoyment.” Microwaves, Cable TV and cheap gas are not the God given rights of Americans. While “today” we may be wealthier than 92% of the world, no one knows what tomorrow holds. The only unshakable thing in this world is Jesus. There is a reason that “In God We Trust” is printed on our money – someone knew what they we’re talking about! A life built on Christ is a life built on bedrock and will weather any storm. But a life built on the resources of any national economy is a life built on shifting sand. As King David said in Psalm 20:7 “Some trust in chariots and some in horses, but we trust in the name of the LORD our God.” At least we should! | 10/26/07 | Free | View In iTunes |

Daily Devotional Entry 209 - "It's a Fight!" | I tell my children to stop fighting. Couples come to me for marriage counseling because they want to stop fighting. Fighting is almost always bad. But not always. The Apostle Paul wrote to Timothy in1 Tim 6:12 “Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life, to which you were also called” Yes, fighting with other humans is usually a sin, but fighting the good fight of faith is an absolute must. So here is your mission (should you choose to accept it): advance and move forward, always heading in the direction of life, eternal life. Arrows are flying all about, bombs are exploding left and right -you will occasionally lose a battle, but you must not, you will not, lose the war. Your enemy is the world system of pride, ambition and greed. Your opponent is your own self-seeking heart. Your adversary is a maniacal cosmic madman named Lucifer and he has come to kill and destroy. So don’t just stand there. Drop to your knees and fight like a believer. Your greatest weapons are prayer, personal holiness, faithfulness and love. Fight the good fight of faith. You have been called to eternal life, that’s the goal, so don’t get side tracked and don’t ever stop swinging. We all get tired. We occasionally want to curl up and hide in a foxhole. But our cause is noble and worthy of the relentless struggle that is required to fight the good fight. So, a s the great American poet, Pat Benatar, once said, “Put up your dukes and let’s get down to it” | 10/25/07 | Free | View In iTunes |

Daily Devotional Entry 208 - "Hot Pursuit" | There are some things in life from which we must make an effort to escape. Rain showers. IRS audits. Tooth Cavities. We don’t have to seek these things out – they find us. But there are other things in life which we must make an effort to pursue; Good health, purse-snatchers, bargains at Christmas. These things don’t come naturally. They don’t come easily. You have to hunt them down, run them down, chase them down. Now, here’s a list of six things: righteousness, godliness, faith, love, patience and gentleness. What do you think? Are these things that come naturally and fall upon when we are not paying attention, or, are these things that we must seek out and chase down? Here is the Apostle Paul with the answer in 1 Tim 6:11b “…Pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, patience, gentleness.” Lace up your running shoes and release the hounds! - we need to track some things down. Because righteousness, godliness and faith are not going to fall in our laps. Godly qualities like patience and gentleness are not going to come looking for us. We can’t pray to be more like Jesus and then spend our lives on the sofa. We can’t cry out to be more like Christ and then sit on our hands. Righteousness, godliness and love are not going to come knocking on our doors. We have to pursue these things. We must work at being patient. We must strive to embrace godliness. We must run hard after faith, love and gentleness because their not going to come looking for us.. Gas up the car. Rev up the engine. This is no place for the lazy, complacent or passive. We are in a hot pursuit for the things that really matter. Carnality will seek you out. But righteousness, godliness, faith, love, patience and gentleness must be chased down like the last chicken leg at a church picnic. | 10/24/07 | Free | View In iTunes |

Daily Devotional Entry 207 - "A Holy Change of Perspective" | The other night I saw an interview with, 2008 Presidential hopeful, Mike Huckabee. Mr. Huckabee, in speaking of his childhood in Hope, Arkansas, said, “We were poor, but we didn’t know we were poor because everybody around us lived the same way”. That, to me, is an interesting statement, because in recent years, I have heard a number of people say the exact same thing, “We were poor but we didn’t know it”. That tell us something huge about contentment and happiness; satisfaction does not come from possessions- it comes form perspective. Here is the Apostle Paul with a little heavenly perspective in 1 Tim 6:6-9 “Now godliness with contentment is great gain. For we brought nothing into this world, and it is certain we can carry nothing out. And having food and clothing, with these we shall be content. But those who desire to be rich fall into temptation and a snare, and into many foolish and harmful lusts which drown men in destruction and perdition.” Live a godly life and be content. That’s Paul’s message. “Do you have food, clothing and a love for Jesus?” he would ask, “Then be content” he would say. But can a person really be content with only food and clothing? Is that even possible? My son Ben, if he could talk, would say “yes”. Ben is four months old and very content. If he’s fed, dry and warm, then he’s one happy little dude. It’s not that he’s stupid – he just doesn’t know there is much else to life. Satisfaction does not come from possessions- it comes form perspective. I was satisfied not having an iphone until I knew one could be had. My kids were fine with not having a play-land in the backyard until they saw that the neighbors had one. Most people have no desire for carrots until one is dangled in front of their nose. Contentment does not come from the acquisition of things- it is a byproduct of perspective. Wanting more and more is a foolish and harmful lust that will drown us in destruction and perdition. The desire for things is a fire that will never be satisfied and a blaze whose flames know no bounds. We need to change the way we look at ourselves, what we are supposed to have, and what we think we need. “Godliness with contentment is great gain” and If contentment doesn’t come from having what we want but wanting what we have, then we need a holy change of perspective. | 10/23/07 | Free | View In iTunes |

Daily Devotional Entry 206 - "Dangers of the 'Bless Me' Clubs" | Orphans are starving. And many in the pews cry, “Bless me Lord!” Persecuted Christians are suffering. And thousands on Sunday morning pray, “Prosper me God!” Half the world has yet to hear the wonderful message of Jesus. And people gathered around their televisions sets say, “Oh, give me a raise, give that promotion, this is my year of increase!” Each Sunday there are men behind pulpits who have made successful careers out of appealing to people’s self-centered greed. In the name of Jesus they teach people to covet, focus on them selves, and believe that God is pleased with narcissistic quests for “more and more”. While at the same time, billions of souls who’ve yet to hear the Truth even once, struggle to survive on less than two dollars a day. Smiling false teachers have turned God into a genie in the sky who thrives on words of positivity from egocentric worshippers. Paul, 1 Tim 6:5b, speaking of those who teach false doctrines, warns us that they often “…think that godliness is a means to financial gain.” My fellow “devotionalists” I beg you, flee from such teaching, run from the doctrines that espouse spirituality as a means of prosperity. We don’t come to Christ in order to make our lives better. We surrender to Christ because He is the Holy King of the Universe who laid down His life so that we could be forgiven and live. We worship Him because it is the logical response to who He is and what He’s done. Godliness is not a means to financial gain and we should reject the pastors of the “Bless Me” Clubs who say it is. | 10/19/07 | Free | View In iTunes |

Daily Devotional Entry 205 - "Trouble at The Water Cooler" | Anybody can stand around the water cooler and complain. You don’t have to be a special person in order to fault-find and gossip. But holding your tongue, working hard and always showing respect to your superiors takes self-control, humility and maturity. In the workplace, the good attitude and faithful diligence of a child of God will bring glory and honor to the One who has called us to show the world the difference that Jesus has made in our lives. Any “bozo” can grumble, be negative and lazy, but it takes a person of spirit filled integrity to be conscientious, hard working and courteous on the jobsite. Consider what Paul wrote in 1 Tim 6:1 “Let as many bondservants as are under the yoke count their own masters worthy of all honor, so that the name of God and His doctrine may not be blasphemed.” Honoring our employers and superiors (even when they don’t deserve it) casts our God in a good light. In this day and age of the “I don’t have to take this. Who does he think he is? Someone has to set her straight” mentality - a humble, hardworking employee will stand out as a commendable person and keep the name of God and His teachings from being blasphemed. Christians should be the very best of employees. So turn off this devotion and get to work. | 10/18/07 | Free | View In iTunes |

Daily Devotional Entry 204 - "YOU Get a Gold Star" | You’re pretty – you get a gold star. You have a successful career – you get a gold star. Each day society hands out “gold stars” to the women that it deems worthy of appreciation. And as it has been for many decades now, the criteria for merit is largely based on youthful looks and achievement. And so, every year, millions of women are subjected to being measured by the world’s checklist as they hope for a seal of approval that declares, “You’ve done well. You still look young and have achieved a decent amount of market place success. You get a gold star”. However, the things that warrant praise from the world are often of little significance to God. In 1 Timothy 5, Paul, in writing about the church supporting widows who have no one to care for them, says that, before we start paying their rent and buying them groceries, we had better see if these “women in need” are worthy of such esteem from the church. Here is 1 Tim 5:9,10 “Do not let a widow under sixty years old be taken into the number, and not unless she has been the wife of one man, well reported for good works: if she has brought up children, if she has lodged strangers, if she has washed the saints’ feet, if she has relieved the afflicted, if she has diligently followed every good work.” 1 Timothy 5 gives us God’s checklist for a life well lived (and I firmly believe that this is a list that is just as important for men as it is for women). Faithful in marriage? Reputation for doing good? Grown children who are productive members of society? Hospitable and generous to people you didn’t know? Service to the church? Mercy toward the weak and the lowly? Consistent in following the good path of Jesus? If so … then you, YOU get a gold star! (From on high and not from Hollywood) So forget wrinkle cream and corporate ladders. Gold Stars for such things will only turn your skin green. Approval from God, whether we are male or female, is based upon faithfulness, service and mercy. Let’s strive for these things as we make our way towards the big teachers desk in the sky. | 10/17/07 | Free | View In iTunes |

Daily Devotional Entry 203 - "For Example" | People love examples. For example… In the days before the Internet, my wife and I used to buy a lot of cookbooks. The more full color photos it had, the more likely we were to add it to our collection. Because we don’t just want to read about a recipe, we want to see what it’s going to look like when completed. We want an example. When my wife and I went to buy our first computer, we didn’t want the salesman to simply describe what was in the box, We wanted to see it, touch it and try it out. We wanted, we needed, an example. People like examples because a picture really is worth a thousand words and seeing is believing. And I can’t think of any place where good examples are needed more than in the church. The apostle Paul understood this, and so he wrote to Timothy, 1 Tim 4:12, “Don’t let anyone think less of you because you are young. Be an example to all believers in what you say, in the way you live, in your love, your faith, and your purity.” People want to see faith lived out. They need a model of the real deal. Question: Are you willing be an example to others of what life in Christ should look like? I don’t care if your sixteen years old, I don’t care if you just came to the Lord a year ago, the church needs people to be examples in word, in deed, in love, in faith and in purity. Why not you? If not you – then who? Let’s not make excuses. People need to see what life in Christ looks like. Let’s show them. Make a difference in the world. Do someone a favor and be an example. | 10/16/07 | Free | View In iTunes |
