Knowledgable Hosts, Interesting Conversations
Mostly Mets stands out as a welcome alternative to the WFAN-style speciousness one usually finds in Mets analysis. Berg, Flood, and Hyde are knowledgeable, reasonable, and pleasant. It helps to already be familiar with them from their blog writing (especially Berg, whose personality is exhibited strongly in both his blog and the podcast), but newcomers will still enjoy it if they enjoy intelligent sports conversation. Berg's quirkiness, Flood's in-depth statistical analysis, and Hyde's intimate knowledge of the Mets farm system all make for an entertaining and informative podcast.
Outstanding podcast
This podcast is great. It is like hanging out and mostly talking about the Mets except there isn't that many Mets fans in St. Louis. Thank you guys and please keep this podcast going.
One of the best baseball podcasts
Baseball podcasting is in a golden age. Goldstein and Park's Up and In, Cistulli's Fangraphs pod, ESPN's Baseball Today and Fantasy Focus, Sox Prospects, among others, have made baseball fans smarter and narrow the information asymmetry between the layman and the insider. But as someone who has grown into a Mets fan because of the great SNY TV crew of Cohen, Hernandez and Darling, I have especially warm feelings towards Mostly Mets. They helped make me a better informed Mets partisan. Here is why the podcast is great: the hosts--Hyde, Berg and Flood--are funny but not silly, critical but not cynical, and intelligent without assuming that most managers--both on the field and in the GM's office--are idiots. They use advanced stats to illuminate their positions and not as cudgels, easily combining statistical analysis and a scouting eye. And the digressions from the Mets at the major league level are always welcome, the discussions ranging from Hyde's insider knowledge of the minor league system to long discussions about bacon. I always end up a bit smarter about baseball in general and the Mets in particular after listening, and you can't ask for more than that. Oh yeah, their blogs on SNY are great, too. Read 'em--you'll be glad you did.
