Music Tech for ME 2009.03.15-#043 | A few months ago, Korg released a new series of compact USB-controllers. The series is called the "Nano-Series" of midi controllers. The series consist of a "nanoKEY" which is a small 25-key velocity sensitive keyboard, a "nanoPAD" which has 12 responsive trigger pads and an X-Y touchpad surface (all which are great for drum programming), and lastly the "nanoKONTROL" which offers 9 faders, 9 knobs, 18 switches, and a transport section which can be used for controlling numerous functions within a computer based DAW. I purchased the 'nanoKEY" and the "nanoPAD" last month and thought that I would do a review podcast of these great little devices. I also included a musical sequence I produced using only these two devices as my data entry tools. Check it out and let me know what you think. Blessings! Music Tech for ME 2009.03.01-#042 | Podcasting is not as easy as some make it sound. There is prep work and production work involved that you sometimes don't realize just how much time it takes to put these episode together. Due to these and other demands, we recently lost one of my favorite podcast shows.. "EdTech Musician". Todd and Andrew Seymour have been producing podcasts for about 4 years. I salute them for how they helped pioneer the music technology/education podcast shows. They will be missed. Also for this week, I'll talk about the presentation I gave at the 2009 TIME conference just a couple of weeks ago on the subject of "Screencasting". Music Tech for ME 2008.10.01-#035 | I just retured from the 2008 ATMI conference which was held in Atlanta, GA. It was a great conference and as always, it was wonderful catching up with my old, and some new, friends from around the country. Over the next several episodes, I will be presenting information about the topics that were discussed at the conference along with interviews and testimonials from various educators who were in attendance. For this week's show, I did a live interview with the managing director of Soundtree, Jim Frankel. This was the first time I recorded a live interview with my hand held digital recorded. I used a Korg MR-1 with an AKG D5 hand held dynamic microphone. There were a few pops on the recording (which was total my fault). But other than that, I was very pleased with the live audio recording. Links Soundtree ATMI | 10/1/08 | Free | View In iTunes |

Music Tech for ME 2007.09.015-#012 | Welcome to episode #12 of Music Tech for ME. Did you ever think, that there would be a day, that you could sit at home and have a music lesson with a teacher who was not physically (in person) in the room with you? Well guess what.... that day has arrived! For this week's episode, I interviewed Carol Johnson. Carol is the founder and creator of "The Virtual School of Music". The school is an online source for live music instruction. They provide one-to-one music instruction for various musical instruments. They also provide individual classes in music theory, jazz improvisation, music education courses for music teachers, and their new College Prep Programs. Carol and I chat about the ins and outs of providing music instruction online. What are your thoughts on providing "Online" music instruction? Let me know what you think about his week's topic by providing a post or sending me an email. Blessings! Links: www.thevirtualschoolofmusic.com www.carolj.net | 9/15/07 | Free | View In iTunes |

Also on this week's show, I will share with you a couple of personal technology experiences that I think you will find of interest. The first story deals with upgrading one of the school's Audio/Midi labs, and the second story is about my experience using a wireless internet router from home. So download this episode and load it into your favorite mp3 player. Afterwards, drop me post or email and let me hear your thoughts about this week's show or anything else you think would be of interest to other music educators. Blessings! Music Tech for ME 2007.08.15-#010 | Welcome to episode #10 of Music Tech for ME. After our interview with Larry Marchese from Sibelius during the last episode, I thought it only fair to have someone from Make Music on the show. So for this week's episode, I had the opportunity to interview Tom Carruth. Tom is a product specialist for Make Music. Make Music is the developer for the music notation program "Finale". Back in June, Make Music released their latest version of Finale... "Finale 2008". Tom took the time for a phone interview to discuss the many new features and updates in Make Music's flagship program, "Finale 2008". We also talked about the other music education products that are also being developed by Make Music. The picture below shows one of the very cool new features in Finale 2008. You can load an audio file into your Finale document for playback. This is a great feature for those that need to transcribe music from an audio recording. In this episode, we are going to offer some suggestions for answering this question. We will discuss 8 methods (or, suggestions) you could use for learning a new technology. If you are going to take the time to learn a music notation program, a DAW program, or maybe even a new hardware device, I hope that one or more of these methods will assist you in your learning process. If you have a suggestion or method that you would like to share, please post it or send me an email. Blessings! Music Tech for ME 2007.06.01-#005 | Welcome to episode #5 of Music Tech for ME. Over the next few weeks, I will begin the process of creating a Resource Links page. So instead of filling up space in the blog roll, I thought that a dedicated page just for links would be easier to manage and to update. So this week's podcast episode is dedicated to 10 websites that I find of value for music technology and music education. Per my request in the podcast, please submit to me your 2 to 3 sites that you use or that you think would be of interest to other music educators. Send those to me via the email link on the sidebar. Posting Episode #3… Again! | Music Tech for ME Episode #3 Hello everyone. I'm so sorry, but I have to post Episode #3 again. As you all know, I am very new at all of this and I'm making a few mistakes. I posted episode #3 yesterday but made an error in getting the show to post in the iTunes search. So thanks for your patience as I go through my learning stage. But on a brighter note, I also have another resource for you to check out. In episode #3, I talk about the basic components of the computer based DAW. One of which, is the Keyboard Midi Controller. Right after I attempted my post yesterday, I came across the 2007 February issue of "Keyboard Magazine". The main feature for that issue was "Controller Keyboards" where they reviewed over 20 different Midi Keyboard controllers. It was a great article! Check out the link to Keyboard Magazine and try to get a back copy of that issue. Have a blessed day! | 5/2/07 | Free | View In iTunes |
