Hearing God’s Voice: Are We Listening? | This sermon series focuses on hearing Gods’ voice. Jesus said, “My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me.” The reason we want to hear God’s voice is to enable us to follow Him. There are many other “voices” that vie for our attention. We have our own voice. This consists of our own thoughts, feelings and perceptions. There is the voice of other people. People tell us what they think and feel about us, themselves and the world around us. Everyone has an opinion! There is also the voice of our culture. This voice tends to try and get us to conform to what is acceptable in our specific culture. Lastly, there is the voice of the Devil and his demons. Jesus calls him the “father of lies.” Not a good voice to listen to. Learning to listen to God voice has two primary aspects; God’s written word, the Bible, and the present voice of the Holy Spirit. God’s written word is the authoritative, foundation of what God tells us is true about us, this world, the life to come and God Himself. God speaking in the present should always be in agreement with His written word. With this as out foundation we must learn to become great listeners. It is much easier to just tell God what we need and want and leave it at that. But God wants to speak to us. Are we listening? It is only when we learn to listen that we can obey Him and follow Him. | 2/7/12 | Free | View In iTunes |

Hearing God’s Voice | Once we believe in Jesus and ask Him to be our Savior, His promise is that He is always with us (Mt. 28:20). Think about that. There is never a time in your life that Jesus is not with you! If that is true, then He must want to communicate with us all the time about every aspect of our lives. Is this how we live life? Do you go through your day expecting Jesus to communicate with you all the time? Why would God want to communicate with us like this? First and foremost because he loves us. Only He can fill our love hunger. Secondly, because He is good. Since God is consummately good, He knows what will be good for us, more than we do for ourselves. Thirdly, because He is truth. Would you want to live your life and find out at the end that you had based it on lies? Really, the Bible is a record of God speaking and relating to His beloved creation … us! The challenge for us becomes, do we hear His voice? There is really nothing more important than being able to hear God’s voice and follow Him. This is the challenge to us for 2012. Will it be a year that I learn how to hear God’s voice and follow Him? The rest of this sermon series will focus on how we can learn to hear God’s voice and filter out the other voices that want us to follow them rather than God. | 1/29/12 | Free | View In iTunes |

The Truth About All Success! | Very few Christians are mature enough to handle very much success and attention. Our natural tendency is to take all the credit for what we have done, and also be jealous of others when they are more successful than we are. This mindset is the enemy of the unity that the Holy Spirit is working to build in The Church. Therefore, we must understand the truth about all success! We naturally live by what we see and think. We believe our value as a person comes from what is seen and accomplished. We think, “They are so smart, so talented, so beautiful, so spiritual...why can’t I be like them?!” Instead of rejoicing at what God has given them and the place he has put them, we become jealous and envious – and God hates it because it tears down the unity of the Body. So what is the Kingdom truth about success? We don't need to be jealous of others and they don't need to be jealous of us. God alone is the author of ALL success! Only through eyes of faith can you see this truth. So we can genuinely praise God for all accomplishments; ours and theirs! That is the mentality of the Kingdom of God. Embracing this truth will bring unity to the Body of Christ. I have a lot more to share with you today…so tune in for the next 40 minutes and discover how and why you don’t need to be jealous any more! Pastor Paul Taylor | 1/22/12 | Free | View In iTunes |

We Need Everything the Holy Spirit Has to Give Us | The person of the Holy Spirit is a gift to the world, The Church, and to us personally. Paul tells us to eagerly desire spiritual gifts. 1 Corinthians 14:1, “Follow the way of love and eagerly desire spiritual gifts,…” What is the Holy Spirit's purpose in all this? He is bringing about, common good, unity, strengthening us, convicting the world of sin and show us true righteousness, and to bring glory, honor, thanksgiving and praise TO GOD THE FATHER AND JESUS CHRIST His son. We are to desire and administrate the Gifts of the Holy Spirit for the right reasons. They can be encouraged or discouraged, received or rejected, used for good or misused for evil. Gifts areas simply tools, depending on the heart of the worker who is using them, they will hurt or they will help. You don’t earn them. We are to receive them by faith and then submit ourselves to God and follow the leadership of the Holy Spirit. God will hold us accountable for how we managed His gifts. They are intended to deepen our trust and love of God, while benefiting everyone who needs the benefits of God's gifting by grace. | 1/15/12 | Free | View In iTunes |

The Gift of Correction | You won’t find this gift under your Christmas tree but it may be the best one you get this year. It is wrapped in love, and it comes from your Heavenly Father who only gives the best. This gift is the corrective voice of the Holy Spirit who teaches us a very simple principle, “My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me.” (John 10:27) As Christians, we would all say that we love God. But do we really know what true love is? To us it may mean one thing but to God TRUE LOVE is obeying God’s commands. The Holy Spirit is teaching us to follow God no matter what. ““If you love me, you will obey what I command.” (John 14:15) So what happens if we DON’T listen and obey the counsel of the Holy Spirit? Is it really a big deal or not? Listen to today’s teaching and see what is at risk. | 12/11/11 | Free | View In iTunes |

God’s Kindness | There is a small story tucked away in Chapter 9 of the book of Acts. It is a story about a woman, Tabitha, who was dearly loved by others because of her many acts of kindness towards others. Tragically, she becomes sick and dies. This would seem to be the end of her life story here on earth, but God has a different idea. The people who have come to love her dearly find out that the Apostle Peter is in a nearby town and they call for him to come. Being a part of the early church, these people had certainly heard stories of how Jesus raised people from the dead, and their hope was that this might be possible for their beloved Tabitha. Peter comes, prays for her, and God miraculously raises her from the dead. People who had been deeply touched by her many kindnesses, loved her so much, that they had the faith and the hope that God would raise Tabitha from the dead and give her back to them. It wasn’t because of her position, title or great accomplishments that they wanted her back. It was because of her kindness. God didn’t raise her back to life because she was “somebody” in the eyes of the world, but because she was dearly loved. Acts of kindness can be extremely powerful. It can soften a hard and embittered heart. It can break through intellectual objections. It can break down barriers and wrong beliefs that people hold about God. The Bible tells us that God is rich in kindness and it is His kindness that is intended to bring us to repentance. His single greatest act of kindness was to send Jesus to become one of us and to ultimately die as the payment for our sins so that we can be reconciled to God. This Christmas is an opportunity to demonstrate the love of God to others through acts of undeserved and unexpected acts of kindness. God’s kindness to us was totally undeserved and we can reflect His kindness to others by doing the same! | 12/4/11 | Free | View In iTunes |

Are Sacrifices Still Important? | What if any significance does Old Testament animal sacrifices have in modern day Christianity? Isn't this just a outdated practice from ancient civilizations who didn't know any better? Is there a deeper meaning that applies to our lives today? The sacrifices and offerings that were brought by the people were to be the physical expression of their inward devotion. It's easy to talk about sacrifices and forget that that by their very nature, sacrifices were a ugly, bloody and costly business. Modern Christianity finds it hard to relate because we don't see sacrifice in its visceral form, but to the Israelites, the illustration of sacrifice was deep and meaningful. As Christians we can learn a great deal from today's message about the Old Testament principles of sacrifice. | 11/27/11 | Free | View In iTunes |

You Are Being Watched | If you have experienced the love of God in your life, it should be your mission to demonstrate this love to others. Think about it, you most likely came to Christ because someone demonstrated the love of God to you. Words are not enough. Our message must be accompanied by action. People are watching us to see who Jesus is. The story of Zacchaeus, in Luke 19, is a helpful example of demonstrating God’s love to others. Zacchaeus was a chief tax collector. This means he was despised by his culture and live a life of shame. Thought he seemingly had everything (…very rich…), his life was still missing something. He wanted to see Jesus because he had heard about Jesus. Maybe Jesus was the answer to the emptiness in his heart. Find out how Jesus demonstrates God’s love to Zacchaeus in very powerful ways that lead to Zacchaeus becoming saved. If we will practice the same principals, people can experience the love of Jesus. The world is looking for the real Jesus. But, they aren’t reading the Bible, they are watching us! | 11/13/11 | Free | View In iTunes |

The War We Are In | This message explains why it is such a struggle for Christians to live the Christian life in today's 21st century America. The reason is that it is a real war, waged daily, with three inter-connected enemies: one internal and two external. The choice is to be a victor by the power of the Holy Spirit or a victim. | 11/6/11 | Free | View In iTunes |

Staying on the Road of Love | If we closely at Scripture, we see a strong, passionate and intimate love relationship between Father God and Jesus. The Father loves the Son and has given Him the name above all names and the Son loves the Father and desires to bring Him honor and glory through all that He does. It is a deep, mutual love and respect shared between them. Most remarkably, Jesus says in John 15:9, “I have loved you even as the Father has loved Me!” As much as Jesus loves the Father, He has this same love for us. Simply amazing! Jesus wants us to personally experience the same love He has for the Father. What a wonderful promise. But more importantly, Jesus tells us in the next breath, “Remain in my love.” By implication, this means that, even though Jesus loves us, we can fail to remain, abide, or live in His love. The next statement He gives explains us a major key to being able to remain in His love … keeping His commandments. Every commandment of God is born out of His love for us and His desire to bless us. God’s love tells us what we need to do to remain in His love and what we should not do to remain in His love. There are do’s and don’ts. These are the path of love that God has laid out for us. It is a path of blessing and increasing revelation of remaining in His love. There is no better place to be than when we “remain in His.” | 10/30/11 | Free | View In iTunes |

A Love Story | Part of our vision is that people will experience the life-changing power of God’s love. It is one thing to know about God’s love and another to experience His love. There is a story in Luke 7:36-50 about two people who had the opportunity to experience God’s love. A Pharisee had invited Jesus to dinner, more to check him out than to receive from Him. During the dinner an immoral woman came and began to weep over Jesus feet and wipe his feet with her hair. She also brought some expensive perfume and poured it on His feet as well. She came to receive His love and be forgiven of her sins. She came with a repentant heart and experienced God’s love cleansing her of guilt and shame. She left the dinner changed after encountering the Love of God. The Pharisee, however, did not see his need for Jesus. He did not consider himself a “sinner” like this woman. As a result, he did not receive the love of God being available through Jesus. He left the dinner empty and unchanged. God loves us, but more than anything He wants us to see our need to personally experience His love and be forever changed. | 10/23/11 | Free | View In iTunes |

Many Miracles Start with What You Have | Looking at the miracle of Jesus feeding 5000 people more closely, we see not only an amazing miracle, but a truth that is seen throughout the Bible. Jesus used what the people did have, to provide what they didn't have. He used a boy’s lunch as the medium for the miracle of feeding everyone. Jesus could have turned stones into bread, dropped manna from heaven, but instead he turned bread into more bread and fish into more fish. Why is this principle important and does it teach us something that applies to us today? As we study this story, we also see Jesus testing his disciple Philip by challenging him to solve the problem when Jesus knows already what the solution is. Why would He do that? Is Jesus doing the same to us as well? Tune in today and discover God’s wisdom that will help us live life more fully. | 10/9/11 | Free | View In iTunes |

The Holy Spirit Does Supernatural Stuff | Did you know that Jesus did not begin his public ministry until after he was anointed with the Holy Spirit? Once the Holy Spirit had come upon Him, he began to do supernatural stuff. The Gospels are full of supernatural happenings, healings, deliverances, feeding thousands with very little, raising the dead, and calming a storm just to name a few. But Jesus was human just like us and had to rely on the power of the Holy Spirit to do supernatural stuff. Not only that, he had His disciples go out and do the same. Then, after his return to heaven, the early church experienced the Holy Spirit working supernaturally through them as well. The Holy Spirit loves to do supernatural stuff through us! Let’s face it, there are areas in our lives and in the lives of others that need the supernatural touch of the Holy Spirit. But we will not see this unless we begin to expect it and believe this is the intent of the Holy Spirit. He wants to work supernaturally in us and through us. How can you be a part of this? Listen to the rest of this message and be stirred in your heart to expect more of the supernatural work of the Holy Spirit in your life! | 10/2/11 | Free | View In iTunes |

To Tell the Truth | Truth is something that should have a high value in our lives. If you think about it, we base our life on what we believe to be true. So what happens if what we believed to be true is actually not true. We have wasted a lot of valuable time and energy. God has given us a most amazing gift to help us live for what is true. He has given us the Holy Spirit. Jesus said that the Holy Spirit is the Spirit of truth and that He will guide us into all truth! Jesus further says that when we know what is truth and build our lives on the truth that it will have a liberating effect on our lives. This is why the Holy Spirit is so essential to our lives. Without His help we cannot hope to reap the benefits of know the truth. The holy Spirit will teach us the truth about God, about ourselves and about our relationships with others. In other words, the Holy Spirit will lead you to know what is true for every area of your life. Listen to this message to learn the benefits of letting the Holy Spirit lead you into knowing and living what is true. | 9/25/11 | Free | View In iTunes |

Who Needs Power? | Each of us exercises power in our lives. We use our will power, our influence, our money, our education to help us obtain what is important to us. We can be a part of people groups, political groups, religious groups, and interest groups to gain influence and power. Nations use military, economic, and political power to further their own ends. We all need and want power. The reason this is true is because everyone wants to avoid the opposite … feeling powerless! No one likes feeling powerless. It means we have lost control of our life. Each of us wants to have a measure of control over the direction and outcome of our lives. No one wants to be powerless. God has made His power available to us. When we surrender our lives to Jesus Christ the Holy Spirit will come and make his home in us. The Bible teaches us that the Holy Spirit is the power of God in us. Think of it … God’s power resident inside of you! This power is the source of all that we need to live a godly life here on earth. You don’t have to have a powerless life. You don’t have to rely on your own willpower. You don’t have rely on any of the “power” that this world has to offer. Have God’s almighty power resident inside of you 24 hours a day. Listen to this message and find out the key to accessing the power of the Holy Spirit in your life. | 9/11/11 | Free | View In iTunes |

Bringing People to Jesus – Eternity Matters | Eternity is a really, really long, long, long time. It is hard for us to imagine. But that is how long we will live after we physically die here on earth. The question is, do you know where you will spend eternity? The Bible tells us that there are only 2 options, heaven or hell. Not only that, but where we spend eternity is determined by our short life here on earth. Jesus made it very clear that He is the only way to spend eternity in heaven. So, that makes it extremely important, for those of us who know Jesus, to bring other people to Jesus. Eternity is at stake. When you live your life around other people do you think in terms of eternity? Does their eternal destination matter to you? It should! Does your life attract them to Jesus? Jesus put it this way when he described his life here on earth, “I brought glory to You (God) here on earth by completing the work You gave Me to do.” He did everything He did to draw people’s attention to God. Our lives should do the same. We should live in such a way that we draw people’s attention to Jesus. Since Jesus is the only way to spend eternity in Heaven, we should do everything we can to bring people to Jesus, because eternity matters! | 9/4/11 | Free | View In iTunes |

Bringing People to Jesus | The Christian faith rests upon the person of Jesus Christ. He is the central message of Christianity. He is the Good News. Our vision at the Mustard Seed begins with the goal of bringing people to Jesus. Jesus personifies God taking the initiative to reach out to us. Only through Jesus can we be made right with God and become acceptable to God. Jesus is the only one who can forgive us for all our sin. This is a gift from God. We can’t earn it, deserve it or work for it. All other major religions in this world expect people to work at making themselves acceptable to God. Only Christianity believes the opposite. God realizes that man on his own cannot do this, so He sent Jesus. Jesus said that He is the only way to become fully reconciled to God. No one else and nothing else can ever do this for any human being. That is why it is our vision to bring people to Jesus. This should be the mission of every Christian, to bring people to Jesus. We are not primarily bringing people to church, or to become religious or just to become better people. We primarily want to bring people to Jesus. Only through Jesus can we find and experience a personal love relationship with God. He really is the way to God, the truth of God and the life of God! | 8/24/11 | Free | View In iTunes |

Can God Lie? | How do we know what is true? Much of what we hear today in our culture says that the God of the Bible is not the God for today. Many people prefer to make God be who they want Him to be. In essence, they are saying that God is not who He says He is as portrayed in the Bible. God is a liar and His word is not true! But can God lie? The scripture declares that God is holy. Holy means, among other things, that God is perfect. Perfection cannot lie and cannot be improved upon. Therefore, if God is perfect and cannot lie, His word, the Bible, is absolutely true also. But this is not what much of the culture, even some “Christians”, would have us believe. This message will address some of these culturally popular distortions about God. Because God cannot lie, we can also fully trust every promise that He makes in His word and every word that He speaks to us that agrees with His word. The key to these promises being fulfilled in our lives is for us to respond to His promises with faith, perseverance and endurance. A promise is just that … a promise. It is not instant gratification, but a confidence of what God will do in the near or far future. God cannot lie, so we can fully put our faith in all of His promises. | 8/18/11 | Free | View In iTunes |

My Sabbatical: The REST of the Story | Today marks my official return to ministry after a 5 week sabbatical which began the last week in June. This has been a tremendous gift! I went into the sabbatical with a number of plans of what needed to be accomplished during this time, but an unexpected discovery, changed the whole course of my sabbatical. I discovered to my surprise that I was worn out and “burned out”. Consciously and unconsciously, ministry causes emotional withdrawals to be made on pastors every day. Whenever I am emotionally and spiritually engaged, it often comes at a personal cost, and if I don’t rest and recover it burns me out like everyone else. An excerpt from the book, Burnout: The Cost of Caring says, “the very fact that you care about other people puts you at greater risk of burning out than if you did not care. It's one of those stress-related paradoxes.” A key word here is "unrelieved," not "stress." Stress is to be expected; it is a fact of life and therefore must be managed. As a Pastor, I love serving people. However, ministry is a package that comes with high responsibility, problem solving, conflict resolution, on duty 24/7, involves emotional extremes-the best and worst of times…it’s not a job, it’s a calling from God Himself. However true this may be, God also did not intend or call his servants to “burned out” by His calling. God wants to show us a better way of living because His wisdom is superior to the world’s wisdom. I found God’s answers have always been there but because I didn’t value it like I should, I didn’t gain the benefit. What is God’s “hidden” wisdom that was designed to protect us? Tune in today and find out how to protect yourself and honor God in the middle of a stress filled life. | 8/9/11 | Free | View In iTunes |

Strategies of Satan: Counterfeiting | Have you heard some of this “truth” floating around lately; “God loves everyone, so whatever lifestyle makes you happy is OK”; “Pursue your dreams … believe in yourself”; “Live for today and what gives you pleasure today”; “It’s OK to have sex before marriage as long as you love each other.” These all sound very appealing to us. But if we will look a little deeper, they are not “truth”, just counterfeits that sound true. Every human being is born with a common set of needs which are expressed through our desires and wants. How we meet those needs is critical to the ultimate outcome of our life. If we try to meet our needs with what is a counterfeit, we will end up unfulfilled, frustrated and emotionally empty. When we meet our needs with what is based on God’s truth, we end up satisfied and fulfilled. | 7/24/11 | Free | View In iTunes |

Escaping the Quicksands of Spiritual Dilusion | Our world is filled with ideas that conflict with the message of Christ. These ideas and belief systems are unavoidable. They influence our culture, and our culture influences us. They represent variations on a theme, namely, belief in "the god of my imagination": God as I want him to be. Jesus calls us instead to be his followers, and insists that you cannot really understand life, God, yourself, or the world and reality unless you adopt Jesus’ understanding as your own and learn from him. Only then can we be truly free. | 7/17/11 | Free | View In iTunes |
