Awesome and much needed podcast
Recently discovered this podcast while doing an assignment for a class. I wish I'd found a podcast like this in my first year of ICU nursing. It's so important to hear from your peers. Just wanted to let you know I wrote a little blurb about your podcast for my assignment. Read below:
I did a search in the ITunes store under the podcast section. I simply entered “nursing” into the search field to get a broad range of results. I discovered a podcast of interest to me as an ICU nurse of 3 years: “New Nurse Podcast” by Andria, RN, BSN, CCRN. She is a nurse in the Neuro ICU nurse with about 2 to 3 years of working experience. In her podcasts she talks about her experiences and covers ICU topics relevant to newer nurses. Subscribing to this podcast is free and currently features 6 audio podcasts: “ABG’s and Vents for Dummies”, “ICU for Dummies! ”, “Pulses Really are Important”, “The Neuro ICU for Beginners”, “Logrolling Patient with Spinal Precautions”, and “Spinal Precautions”. The release dates of her podcast are not on a regular schedule and span between 11/2010 to 6/2011. I really enjoyed listening to her podcasts. Her style is informal; you feel like you are listening to a colleague talking. I think it’s important for new nurses to hear from their peers as a source for learning from others, feeling camaraderie, and gaining confidence. I myself utilized the allnurses.com Graduate Nurses and ICU Nurses forums a lot during my first year, but I never thought to look into podcasts. I think it would have been helpful if I had found a similar podcast to this in my first year.
Pulses Really are Important!
This podcast is good stuff for new nurses. I am going to share with some nursing students I know. I think they would find it very comforting - hearing from someone new to nursing like they will be soon.
Andria has a great voice for podcasts!
Well thought out and very informative!
Andria really knows her stuff! I personally have enjoyed all the shows and feel it's perfect for anyone entering into the medical profession!
