| 15 | VideoS3W41: Red Bull Rivals 2011 Town vs Country at Sandys Beach | Red Bull held it's event, Red Bull Rivals 2011 Town vs Country, this past Saturday. I love this event because the surfers were voted in and the teams get to surf against each other for bragging rights! There's always friendly rivalry between South Shore and North Shore and this is a great way for surfers to battle, SURF! The waves were small waist to chest high at Half Point, where water is only about 6 inches deep above sharp reefs. Surfers were ripping out there tho, no wonder why these surfers were voted into the event! I had the youngest competitors of the events, Noa Mizuno (South Shore) and Devin Brueggemann (North Shore) to host this webisode. Thanks boys! | 22 | VideoS3W34: South Swell of the Decade at Big Bowls | We got the south swell of the decade this past week. I don't remember the last time when waves broke outside of the red buoy. The red buoy were washed into the shore middle of the night when the swell peaked. The waves were too big for some kids but some of them were out there enjoying the rare big south swell. If you aren't familiar with Big Bowls, waves only break there when the waves are big. On normal swell, Big Bowls will break once every hour or so but on this swell Big Bowl was breaking even between sets. | 29 | VideoS3W27: NSSA Nationals at Huntington Beach, CA | NSSA Nationals held it's National Championships at Huntington Beach this past June. Kids from all over the States worked really hard all season to qualify to this event. Everyone was surfing really well in waves anywhere from over head to knee high waves this event offered. They only had 3 judges for Explore divisions and 4 judges for Open Divisions. No high and low scores were thrown out like other National events. Not only that the judges missed lot of waves, so some kids didn't advance since one of their waves were not even counted. Also, the kids were offered NO FOOD. Lot of the kids were forced to be at the beach all day since they had to surf different divisions and rounds with no food offered by the organizer. Shame on you NSSA Nationals! The worst event ever as far as how it was ran. I feel really sorry for all the kids who worked hard, parents who spent $150 and $180 per division and travel expenses, kids' sponsors who covered the entry fees, and the event sponsors who spent money into this event. I want to thank Aunti Bobbi and Miko from NSSA HAWAII for standing up to NSSA Nationals at the event when the judges were missing kids' waves. That's like speaking up to your own boss! Thanks you! It's so hard for these Hawaii surfer kids to not surf for few days. So we went on a mission to find some clean water where we can surf. We ended up at this one "secret" spot where waves were decent and water was clean! Too bad Zeke (Ezekiel Lau) got hurt within 20 minutes of his session. LOVE,, watching novus swell. Love the fact it's an unscripted/regular days of a couple of awesome surfers in Hawaii.
